Comparison of shots

In Saw V scene the keys are contained in jars but the shots used is the same used in our opening sequence for The Salvatore. In both movies the used pan to illustrate the props being used.

In the Salvatore keys are stuck on the ceiling, the same as Saw, and stressed is shown towards the scene to find the right key in a set time condition, other wise a fatal end will occur.

The location are ferly different but shown in a similar way. In Saw the location is dark and not lighted to increase the feeling of darkness and shadow of the actual movie it self.

The set for our thriller sequence is set in a cell and only one character is involved. The lighting is dull but bright enough do differentiate every single element presented in the room.

Page 5: Question 1 media

Saw V present several doors, within padlocks and their keys. The close ups shown in the sequence are very similar to the one presented in the other thriller. The padlock is both scene are one of the key elements that shows time running and tension.

The padlock in the Salvatore was shown several times was the only present in the cell and the aim of the whole challenge is to find the right key.In both thrillers the props have an ancient look to give the idea of mystery, even through in The Salvatore you can see a modernised touch to the composition of the design.

The movements claim the same feeling: frustration, confusion, anger and hope. In Saw is lot more active as four characters are involved. In this shot one of the character has been bitten up and is lying on the floor in pain, cover of blood and about to the take a key for one of the door, it shows similarities to The Salvatore.

The beginning of the opening sequence of The Salvatore, there is the main character lying on the floor waking up after he had been bitten up and even if in pain he finds the strength to pick up the key standing on the floor and standing up, to see the surrounding. The actual shot, a close up of their faces.

Page 7: Question 1 media

The main difference was the uses of different type of keys, however the aim of those props are the same, escaping from the room in time, opening the padlock. The process to find the right key in saw was lot quicker but we need to consider that there where more characters contributing to the action and the number of props weren't the same.

The Salvatore emphasise lot more the discover of the right/wrong key keeping the mystery until the end of the sequence, to keep the viewers tension up until the very end and questioning the happening and what is next.Close ups of key, focus points and pans are all shots used to draw the attention of the viewers.

Page 9: Question 1 media

In Harry Potter, the used a shot to illustrate the amount of keys flying on the ceiling, looking upwards, giving more the sense of depth of filed as well as filling the room.

The Salvatore present very shots to clarify the presence of keys in the cell, especially at the biggining of the opening sequence while the main character is looking upwards followed by a shot with just keys, similar to the one shown in Harry Potter.

Page 10: Question 1 media

A close up of the main key is shown, as it stands out from the other if you look carefully, but it is not easy to find it and gutted as frustration and fear income over other feelings.

A change of focus point followed by an extreme close up is illustrated in the thriller sequence, the main key differentiate from the others as it is the oldest but you need to look carefully, although that is the right key the audience won’t know it that the main character will escape from the cell, to keep in action the mystery and thrills of the sequence.

Page 11: Question 1 media

The characters once found the right key they don’t have lots of time to escape from the room so impatiens they try to open the door increasing the felling of time running and tension.Until they don’t actually get out of the room.

Feeling of frustration, tension and impatient come across through out the clip more and more as time passes, although we will never know what happens to the protagonist of the sequence. The shots is based on showing the door and the suspense of finding the right/wrong key.

The protagonist through out the scene tries several time to open the padlock unsuccessfully, shaking and punching the door for frustration, increasing the tension of the thriller sequence.

Page 16: Question 1 media

Over all there are different media products that are similar to The Salvatore, I looked at two different films and a video game to show variety as well as the the idea or matching camera movements and plot. They all present similarity between each other as well as differences. This task shows that every media product or something were imagination and creativity is required in some ways it will be related with other products seen before or it won’t be as unique as imagined at first. Inspiration might have been taken from different sources, I just want to make sure that all the media product I analysed in this PowerPoint weren’t part of out inspirational product as some of us have never seen those media products before.
