How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Question 2

The website address appears on the front cover, contents page, billboard and the website. This helps link all the products together and means the target audience can establish a link and will know they are all part of “Unlimited Kent”. So by using synergy across my media products it will help promote the magazine and mean the audience connects to them all.

I used the same Masthead, font, colour and house style for my front page, contents page, billboard and website because this provides my target audience with information about the magazine; because it is clear it is for “Kent”. It also gives my target audience the ability to recognise the brand, as it is all similar, so it gives it a “brand image”. This is shown by the pictures below.

The cover star appears on the front page, contents page and on the website, so this means the target audience will hopefully tell the preferred reader that this magazine is for young females because it should have articles that interest this group e.g. beauty, celebrity gossip, and fashion. The cover star should appeal to this audience. The media product contains continuity and consistency which will help get this preferred reason.

The masthead also appears across all my production, so my target audience can recognise what the magazine is called.

My ancillary tasks helped advertise my main product because on my billboard they show where you can go to download the magazine and it also has the web address so you can go onto the website. The website tells you places you can get the magazine and you can download the magazine directly from the website.

The language used throughout my main task and my ancillary are very similar so my target audience will feel a link between all of my productions. I used an informal tone like I was having a normal conversation so I would continue a mode of address with my target audience. This links to uses and gratification theory of social interaction as by using an informal language throughout my work this means my magazine is identifying with the audience and they are gaining a sense of belonging; so they are more likely to keep buying the magazines because they feel connected to them.
