Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product with the ancillary texts? Front of digipak Back of digipak The front and back of my CD cover links with my video because the girl in the picture is the same actress in the music video. The costume she is wearing in both the cover and the video are the same, this is so people can know straight away that this CD is from the same band. The use of colour in the cover is used to grab the audience’s attention but is also there to link with the running reference of Alice in wonderland the music video focuses on. Although the mask which is used in the front cover is not connected to this character it links with the use of masks within the video, at the same time having a connection with the title of the album.

Question 2:How effective is the combination of your main product with the ancillary texts?

Front of digipak Back of digipak

The front and back of my CD cover links with my video because the girl in the picture is the same actress in the music video.

Another way my front cover and back cover connect to the music video is the location I shot both the music video and photos. I used a creepy forest which would be instantly recognised and would carry on the atmosphere already created by the music video.

The two inside panels of my CD cover connects to my music video as both characters are featured in it. The rabbit carries on the Alice and wonderland theme the band has taken throughout the video. The rabbit itself has turned into the bands reoccurring motif (which fall under Goodwin’s theory of music videos) as it’s what people liked and remembered the most about the video. The other inside panel is there to carry on the old fashioned horror movie feel I was trying to create throughout my music video.

The use of the girl on the front and the back panel is used to give the feel that your travelling inside her head as you open up the CD case (no one else knows their there unless you up the case). This continues the point, are they really there of which I was trying to make in my video.

For my advert I decided to use an image of a bloody hand holding an old fashioned watch. I wanted to use the watch because it links with the Alice in wonderland theme as the white rabbit throughout the animation goes on about the time and his pocket watch. The watch also links with the fact the music video doesn’t show a time that the events the audience are watching has taken place. The use of the bloody hands is to remind the audience of the old fashioned horror movie feel the band was going for with the album. The text also links both the CD and the advert together as I used the same font.

This advert would be seen in magazines like; Rock sound, Kerrang and Metal Hammer. This is because the band is that of an alternative genre. Another reason is that the types of video and digipak design are similar to those in these magazines.
