What have you learned from your audience feedback? For the music video, I created multiple drafts as I went along and received feedback from each. Firstly, I edited together our first filming session, which was cut down to around 40 seconds of footage and put to the song that the video was being made for. The feedback I received for it said that the way that the shots cut on the beat, the range of different shot types and the mise-en- scene were all effective for the genre and platform. This made a good basis for the rest of the editing to be based around.

What have you learned from your audience feedback? For the music video, I created multiple drafts as I went along and received feedback from each. Firstly, I edited together our first filming session, which was cut down to around 40 seconds of footage and put to the song that the video was being made for. The feedback I received for it said that the way that the shots cut on the beat, the range of different shot types and the mise-en-scene were all effective for the genre and platform. This made a good basis for the rest of the editing to be based around.

The next piece of feedback I received was for the rough cut of the entire video. The feedback I received told me that the video was very effective in most ways, with the narrative being clear and the video suiting the genre. The points to work on seemed to focus around the section of the video featuring the male actor, which were not shot very professionally and didn’t work very well with the rest of the video. To work around this, I re-recorded that section during more appropriate weather and better lighting conditions. Cutting this into the video was more effective as I had more clips to work with that all suited the video much better. The other main criticism from the feedback was the lip-syncing being out-of-time in some parts of the performance, so I made note of the particular moment when this was noticeable and tweaked the video accordingly.

Before After

Between the rough cut and the final draft, I made some changes that I myself decided on without feedback, based on other videos of the genre. This included colour tweaks, to help set the mood of certain scenes better, as well as some more professional editing of the clips.

Before

After

For my print products, I received feedback on the rough copies. These were at a point where I felt that they were very close to completion, so I aimed my feedback questions quite specifically at things that I wasn’t entirely confident about. From the feedback, I added onto the print advert some reviews, as well as the website of the record label and another seller of the album, directly linking it to the digipak. A dilemma I had come across when designing the print advert was the placement of the album name. This was because when it was laid against the hedgerow of the photograph behind, It made it seem more natural as it followed the line of the base of the hedge. However, when placed on the grass, the text seemed to stand out more. I included this with my feedback questions, and the unanimous vote was to have it against the hedge, which I did for the final product.

After the final draft, I received feedback from members of the target audience. This is that feedback:

What this tells me is that generally the video was successful in its presentation, and works well as a music video. The criticisms that I received included the colouring of the print products. I personally feel that the colouring of the print products is effective, as it is supposed to match the colouring of the video at a certain point.
