What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Page 2: Question 3

What is a media distributer? Media distributors are companies that publish: films, magazines, art and television. Some media distributers just publish films or just magazines many publish just one category. A distributer is the company that gets the magazines into shops and sells them for profit, some distributers may only publish films but only of a certain genre like comedy, but others may publish a range of genres. There are many distributors that could publish my magazine but they all have advantages and disadvantages which I am going to talk about throughout this magazine.

Examples of media distributers: Bauer media: Bauer media publishers focus on many differentgenres and types of media such as: magazines, radio, digital and tv. They have a wide collection of brands that are very popular.

Egmont media: Egmont media publish a range of media products base at younger children to teenagers. The publish magazines such as we love pop.

Bauer Media:Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world.Bauer publishes Q, mojo and Kerrang music magazine, they also publish a range of other magazines of many other genres. Q magazine is a magazine that includes the most current up to date music similar to the kind of magazine I have. It is also a monthly magazine and have very similar qualities to my magazine. Where as Kerrang and Mojo are music magazines of a complete different genre to me, mojo is also a monthly magazine and Kerrang is a weekly magazine, the only weekly music magazine they publish. I think there could be room to publish my magazine with Bauer Media as my magazine is an all pop based magazine for younger people whereas Kerrang, Q and Mojo are all based for older teens from the ages of 17+ whereas my magazine is suited for anyone from the age of 15. my magazine is also a monthly magazine which Bauer tend to publish more. If they published my magazine it would give them a broader range of age, genre and magazines.

Immediate mediaImmediate media company is one of biggest media in the UK and the fourth largest magazine publisher. They publish a wide range of magazines from food to music, all aimed at many different age groups which is why they reach up to 33 million people per month! However this magazine is very limited within the music magazine industry allowing space for a magazine like mine. They also don’t have a very large range of magazines fir teenagers they only have ‘its hot’ and ‘top of the pops’ this an advantage as my magazine would fit right in for them to publish as ‘top of the pops’ isn’t classed as a music magazine and has a range of things inside, whereas my magazine is just a music magazine available for teenagers and young adults. My magazine would fit right in within the company. A disadvantage would be that because they are very limited on music magazines could be due to the company not wanting to publish music magazines or magazines for younger people as their range is aimed for a much older audience.

Egmont media: Egmont media group publish magazines and books for younger children up to the ages of 15/16 (my target audience age is from the age of 15) they sell over a million books and over a million magazines sold each month in the UK, their products are also available in countries worldwide. The magazine they publish most similar to mine is the we love pop magazine which is aimed at teenagers. This is the only music magazine Egmont media publish allowing more room on the market for another music magazine for teenagers and young adults. The other magazines they publish are all for much younger children which is a disadvantage as I don’t want my magazine to been seen as a young children's magazine. Also as well as this my magazine is very similar to the we love pop magazine which may make mine look like a copy and have more competition within the publisher.

Page 6: Question 3

Which publisher would be best for my magazine? In conclusion I think that Immediate publishers would be best to publish my new pop genre music magazine #ThePopz. This is due to the advantages that they have a very small range of music magazine published therefore being room for mine. Also they don’t have many magazines aimed at young adults and teenagers therefore there would be room on the market to include my magazine. Another advantage would be that my magazine is like the ‘top of the pops magazine’ but based on just pop music therefore they would link nicely on Immediate’s publishing scheme. My secondary choice would be Bauer Media group as they are a very well known popular publishing group that would make my magazine successful on the market. Also the advantages being that they don’t have many new pop magazines on the market for younger people, as Mojo and Kerrang are rock genre magazines and Q magazine is based mostly for adults. I think there is room on the market within both of my chosen publishers and have high advantages allowing my magazine to be successful.
