Bauer Media - Background

Bauer Media Group is a large European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world. The portfolio extends to include print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. The publisher is called Yvonne Bauer and was founded in 1875. This media group is also in charge of Multi-platform media print, digital, radio, TV. Print houses, postal services, distribution and marketing services. They operate in 16 different countries and totals 38 million a week with a turnover of €2.129 billion.

Bauer Media

Bauer Media would be the perfect institution to distribute my music magazine because it is the second largest magazine publisher of popular music and entertainment magazines such as Q, Mojo and Kerrang! which are very successful with there age range and readership. These magazines are well known to their niche audience but are not so well known to the mainstream audience as the content of the magazine is informative and great quality. As my music magazine focuses on rock and roll it would be a perfect match as Bauer mainly focuses on rock and roll which means that they can distribute it to their current readers.

‘Q’ Music Magazine

Q is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. Founders Mark Ellen and David Hepworth displaying the biggest and most featured artists which is similar to my magazine. As the genre of our music is similar it will make it easier to distribute towards there current audience. The age range of the readers of Q is 15-24 which is similar to my age range meaning it will be more successful in that social group. Q mostly targets males but I want to target females as I think they will enjoy it the best.

‘Kerrang!’ Music Magazine

This is the worlds largest music magazine which focuses on rock and roll only. The target age range is once again 15-24 which suits my age range perfectly making it successful. Once again the magazine is mainly targeted at males which means that a female magazine could work well for Bauer media. My music magazine will be mostly targeted at students making them in group E on the jicnar scale but on the other hand it could attract different groups like parents, teachers and students family and friends.

OpportunitiesThe Bauer media can market my magazine over many different technological convergence for example ‘Q’ and ‘Kerrang!’ both have their own websites which are used to advertise their magazine also on the websites they can subscribe for weekly or monthly subscription. Another way they can advertise using technological convergence is by apps which are a lot more popular, another popular format is over social media as 95% of people are now online making it a great way to advertise for free. Also another way Bauer could also advertise using radio station as they own Kerrang, Kiss FM and Magic this means we can acquire the interest of the audience listening.
