Research & Planning

Page 3: Question 4 – evaluation

During my research and planning stages of our music video, I used the internet to help me with my research and look at other music videos, posters, digipaks and genres. I used google mainly to research and analysis of existing music videos, digipaks and posters. We gathered a lot of research of music videos, digipaks and posters by looking at codes and conventions that we have put within our music video, this was so our music video looked like a real music video, professional. For example, I personally used the internet to research ideas to put on a mood board, when thinking of what our main idea should be for our music video. Another example of me using the internet was to research music genres so me and the group could decide on which genre would be best for us to produce a music video for. As a group we used the internet to receive feedback off our target audience, as we sent emails with our questionnaire.

As a group we used YouTube to look and analyse different music videos. E.g. Jess Gylnne – Don’t be so hard on yourself, we analysed this music video in a lot of detail this was because it was the genre of music we wanted to do for our music video. We analysed the basic codes and conventions of a music video, this gave us ideas what we could use for our own music video. By looking and analysing other music videos it gave us a insight in what we wanted to produce for our music video. Also allowed us to pick up on different types of camera shots, camera angles, camera movement, sound, mise en scene, editing etc that is used within music videos.

Microsoft word was used to present a lot of the planning and research, E.g. We created tables in word to make a record of all the footage we had, hat shots the footage was and how long it was and comments on the clips. By using this table it allowed us as a group to decide whether the footage was good enough to use within our music video. I personally created a able in word so we were able to plan shot by shot what we wanted in our music video.

Microsoft PowerPoint was used a lot throughout our research and planning, we used it to present our research on music videos we had already looked at. We also used PowerPoint to create a presentation on a certain genre about its history, which helped us as we knew what a traditional music video included. Once the PowerPoint was completed we would use a internet based software to upload the PowerPoint, this software allowed us to embed the PowerPoint's on to the blogger. It allowed us to show the teacher that we did a lot of research before filming our own music video, so the knew our journey when planning our music video.

Blogger is a website we used to upload all our work on, research and planning but also our final work everything that was to do with our coursework. Blogger helped us to show a journey, from the beginning to the end of our coursework, it helped us to see whether we needed to do anything else before completing our music video allowed us to identify any missing parts of our work. Blogger helped us as an individual and as a group to stay organised by making sure we all did our work but also done extra parts individually.

We used the computer to produce our work, from doing research to editing our music video.

We also used the scanner so we could put our hand written ideas onto our blog without typing it up on the computer. For example, we used a scanner to scan our mock ups of our ideas we did on a storyboard so we could upload them to the blog. This allowed us to be organised as we didn’t have to worry about any paper work, as we scanned it in straight after completing.

I used a range of technologies to present my research on my blog these were slideshare, Prezi, Survey monkey and Scribd. This new technologies helped me to present my work in more than one way, it made it more interesting for the reader of my work, as they will not lose interest as the same technology could be boring.

Slideshare – This allows you to upload PowerPoint's and presentations for the whole world to see.

Prezi – a software that allows you to create presentations and information in a fun way, it gets the audience attention.

Survey monkey – allows you to create a survey/ questionnaire easy, saves you a lot of time. You send it off to who ever you want to and receive date back instantly. We used this software to get feedback on our final piece.

New technologies I used?

We used the Iphone camera to take videos and pictures, we took videos of our peers giving us feedback on our ideas and we took pictures of the artist to use for a our digipak, we did a photoshoot of her. We used the Iphone as the quality of the images came out really clear. When doing the photoshoot of the artist we wanted the pictures to look professional, so we used a white screen and studio lights to make the quality of the picture a whole lot better.

We also used the Iphone camera to film our focus group to get feedback on our final products, then we uploaded the feedback to the blog.

We used the video camera to film our entire music video, the camera was sat on the tripod which stopped our clips being shaky, made it look a lot more professional. The camera was provided by the school as he have good quality cameras, by using their camera it allowed us to get good quality equipment.

We used this software to edit our music video, we already had experience on this software as we have already used it in our previous media work. This allowed us to get on with our editing without worrying about how to use it, we already knew how to use their tools because of previous work.

When editing our music video we put the entire footage into the software, which we knew that the quality of the footage was good. We had to organise the footage into a chronological order, then we had to add our track into the software so we able to match the footage to the beat of the music. We used a few different tools to improve our footage, such as the cutting tool so we were able to use clips but not the entire clip as too much of the same clip would getting boring.

We asked for feedback once completed the order and the cutting, the audience said it was good however they said the lighting was really bad throughout the whole video, the advised us to insert a filter on top of the whole music video. This made our music video a lot more bright and interesting because it made it look more realistic instead of home made.

We also added in transitions as it made the music video more interesting and fun because it broke up the different scenes, however we never over used them.

Adobe Premiere

Page 13: Question 4 – evaluation

We used this software to create our digipak and poster. We decided to use this software to create our ancillary texts because it was more advanced then other software's such as word etc. It made our ancillary texts look a lot more professional. When doing our digipak we used the blending tool for the text to make sure that it fit in with the image of the artist and allowed it easy for the audience to see.

As our background image for our poster we used a pink/ purple plain page and we put the image of our artist on it as we wanted her to be the focus. Then we added text on top of the image near the bottom as it made it look more professional because it showed the audience that we thought about our poster instead of just rushing it and leaving it plain.

Adobe Photoshop

Page 14: Question 4 – evaluation

As we had to use Photoshop to complete our poster and digipak, we had to research on the software as we never knew how to use the software. We used YouTube to watch tutorials this allowed us to pick up on the software as they had tools we never knew about. When creating the digipak, it was easy as the shaping was simple but when producing the poster it was more difficult as e had to add extras in such as the record label etc.

Page 15: Question 4 – evaluation

When producing the ancillary texts, he digipak and poster we realised that these needed to be completed in our own time, as we would not have completed it just within lessons. So in school we made mock ups of the ancillary texts, this helped us get a idea on what we wanted them to look like.

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop on my laptop at home to complete the poster, however once getting feedback off the target audience we decided that we needed more detail on it so we completed another poster altogether as a group in our own time after school, which we are using as our final.

Evaluation

Page 17: Question 4 – evaluation

I used Slideshare to answer question 4 of the evaluation. I chose to use this software to answer this question as I felt that the question has certain topics in it and it links to different parts which I had to discuss in my answer. I thought this software would be most useful to answer this question as the slide below linked back to the main slide which made it a lot more easier for the reader to understand.

This was the best software I used as it was easy to use, as once finishing a presentation on PowerPoint you were able to upload it onto the software and embed it onto the blog.

This software allowed me to write a lot of detail and insert picture which related back to my text.

Slideshare

Page 18: Question 4 – evaluation

I used this software to answer question 1 of the evaluation, this was because it is a easy software to discuss in a lot of detail, as I was able to add more slides linking to certain slides. I chose this software as I knew it would allow me to go into as much detail as possible as it was the biggest question of the evaluation. I was familiar with this software as I had used it through the rest of my coursework, I was able to use this software without finding it difficulty and in the need of help.

Prezi

Page 19: Question 4 – evaluation

I used Powtoon to answer my question 2, this was the easiest option as I did a voice over to use a range of media technologies then I wanted to include images on what I was talking about, this allowed me to explain the comparison to our music videos and existing ones, also explain how our work was put together. I thought this software was best to answer this question as it allowed me to include images of what I was talking about in the voice over.

Powtoon

Page 20: Question 4 – evaluation

I used these software to answer my question 3, this was the best software to answer this question as it allowed me to write my answer but also add in videos and screenshot to help answer the question. I am use to using this software as it is easy to upload the work to, and it is easy to understand what has been done.

I also used a Iphone to answer question 3, I used it to record feedback that we received as a group. I also recorded the voice over for question 2 , this was the easiest way because I was use to using the Iphone.

Overall, I feel that well completing my coursework, my skills have improved but also I have gained new skills by using different media technologies.

However, I feel as I was more advanced with certain media technologies such as slideshare, Prezi, Blog posts. I also found it easy to record my focus group as I was so use to the software. However, now I feel that I have the skills to able to used all the media technologies comfortably.
