Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?

Final Cut

The technologies we used were essential for producing our final product. We used final cut to edit the man bulk of our film. The filters on final cut were useful as we used them to change the colour of the film to have a blues tint to create a cold, isolated film to the main character. We also used final cut to edit the sound to create a muffled sound effect which created the illusion that the audience is outside the party.I learnt several new skills from this process and built up confidence using the software. However I learnt that editing a film is a long process as we had several difficulties with the format of our film.

Blogger

Blogger played a big role in collecting and storing ideas for our media product. We used blogger to record our journey and different skills and techniques we had used along the way. We used blogger to show our ideas in a easier format and it helped us stay organised as all our documents were in the same place. We used blogger much more effectively for our final film as we created more posts and thought through our process more carefully. We also carried out more reasearch to help back up our ideas.

Sound Cloud, Free SoundWe used Sound Cloud and Free Sound to upload and share audio clips so we could transfer into our blog. None of the members of my group had used this software before and it took us a while to understand how to use the software. We mostly used Free Sound to listen to different sound effects to decide what sort of sounds we wanted to record for our film. We took inspiration initially from a track of tyres screeching however we decided not to incorporate it into our film as we wanted the dialogue to be the main focus. Sound Cloud was mainly used to listen to sound tracks from different thriller films so we could analyse them in depth and decide what music would be best suited to our film.

You TubeWe used YouTube to upload clips on to the internet so we could embed them into our blogs so we could analyse them. YouTube was useful as we were able to watch other thriller clips. This helped us decide on what conventions would be best to incorporate into our film and to learn the framing of a typical credit sequence in the opening of our film. We used you tube regularly as it was the best way to share the video between us to add to our individual blogs and it also meant that we could share the clip for people to watch so we could improve our film with feedback given.

PhotoshopWe used Photoshop to create the production logo for our film. This process was complicated and took us a while for us to design the logo that we wanted. We tried to link our production logo back to the film. As our thriller is psychological we decided to name it ‘Cerebral Pictures’ as cerebral is another word for brain. We created a flickering effect onto our logo making it look more professional. The production logo is the first thing the audience sees and we thought it might give the audience a clue about the type of film they are going to watch.
