Question 6 What have you learnt about technologies from the

process of constructing this product?

DLSR Camera

I have learnt many things from the tutorial given by Scott – a teacher at Leyton Sixth Form College. When doing the photo shoot for my magazine, I have discovered new things when using the camera. For example, when the camera beeps it means that it is in focus mode which allows the model – in this case Georgiana – to be focused and makes its stand out, blurring out the background. Taking photo’s professionally is not easy, everything needs to be accurate to get the perfect picture. Moreover, I have found out that there is also a button called the Shutter priority which is used on active movements – it produces quick shots. The lighting is crucial as it portrays the significant features of the model. The main light is called the fill light where -1 is the lowest power and 6 being very high. There is also another light called the Hairline light which is included at the back; it separates the model from the backdrop so the photo does not appear flat – this light should be set up on 1.5.

From my research, I have found out many ways to take pictures, the different camera shots/angles varying from extreme long shots to close ups.

These are some of the

photos that I have taken in

the studio.

Blogger

Using Blogger allowed me to upload and update my work regularly. As this was my very first blogger made, it was interesting to know how quickly and instant it is to upload any type of information which was displayed allowing everybody to see it. The fact that you can upload videos through a html links was interesting. Moreover, it was surprising to see how fast people can upload images for everyone to see. I particularly enjoyed personalising my blogger to suit me best and to make it appear different and simple compared to others. Blogger gave me the opportunity to see what I have uploaded previously and it was easy to notice which work was missing. This helped me realise what work needs to be done.

This page allowed me to

upload my work regularly and

keep track of the things I have

posted on Blogger.

Photoshop

Using Photoshop allowed me to learn new skills on how to make images look professional and make it stand out. I have also learnt the different techniques which are needed to produce a decent magazine cover. There are many ways in editing by using the toolbar on Photoshop. The skills I have developed from Photoshop are the cropping, scaling, resizing and exporting/importing images. Blurring the image creates a smoother effect and makes the image blend in with background which forms a professional magazine cover. I particularly enjoyed making my magazine cover as I had a chance to experiment with different things and used my creative skills.

The image on the right was something I have produced on Photoshop on the first time. I included text and also changed the colour and added an image from google, and have blurred the edges.

Illustrator

I used Illustrator to create my mastheads for the magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. This publisher allowed me to adjust the masthead to how I wanted it to be displayed; it gave an opportunity to create something different and original compared to the basic everyday fonts. I particularly enjoyed this publisher because it was fun trying new things and changing the fonts in various ways. I was also able to put an effect on the text without going to Photoshop or any other publisher. One of the things I have learnt was how to alter each work individually by left clicking it and picking ‘create outlines’. From this I created different shapes for my mastheads.

This is something I have produced on Illustrator for

the first time. I used shapes and colours to change the

fonts and shapes. This is my masthead for my front cover which was created on Illustrator.
