Bringing Back Hope

Audience Feedback

Page 2: Question Two

What went well

• After the rough cut was shown to the class, we found that the way we shot the diary was done really well; you could clearly see the text in the diary.

• Also, the over the shoulder shot was done really well as it had shown a link between the two characters.

Changes to make

• Throughout the filming and editing stages of Bringing Back Hope, we had to battle with various sound problems; a problem that was left relatively unsolved as our audience had picked up on this during the rough cut and also the final screening.

More changes• There was a particular scene that had seemed to make the audience

lose focus. This is the ending scene, where we find Hope getting ready for her sisters funeral, this scene is far too long and some parts of it were unnecessary, (for example we see Hope doing her hair for a long period of time).

• During the audience feedback, we were told that removing some parts of the scene will still give the audience the idea that Hope is ready to leave, without having to physically watch her getting ready.

• We also had this problem with the beginning scene where we were trying to portray Hope and the passing of time. Once again, this scene was too long, and we had to remove some parts. Once these parts were removed, the audience had still understood that they were viewing the passing of time within the film.

Conversations

• Whilst the conversations were good, some parts had long spaces between them, which made the acting seem unrealistic.

• To fix this problem, more editing was done to tighten up the conversation between Hope and her sister, bringing the audience an idea of a genuine flowing conversation.

Flashbacks

• Another problem that was raised during the audience feedback was the effects that were being used during flashback sequences.

• It was hard for the audience to distinguish what was a flashback and what was not.

• This problem was solved by using the same effect throughout.

Lighting

• During the audience feedback, lighting was a serious issue as it was sometimes difficult to assume what was going on within the film.

• To overcome this problem, re-filming of badly affected shots were done.

What the audience thought and what I have learnt

• Generally speaking, the audience thought as though the audience thought as though the theme of despair was brought across clearly

• Through this experience, I have learnt that you should never assume that you have completely finished filming until you look at all the shots you have.
