HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE

COMBINATION OF YOUR

MAIN PRODUCT ANDANCILLARY TASKS

My group and I decided to portray our artist as a moody and emotional person as research showed us that this was how many Alternative Rock artists were portrayed.

However we also decided to also make him easily relatable to our target audience. We did this through mise en scene, narrative storyline and body language/facial

expressions.

How I communicated moodiness/emotion in my main

product and ancillary tasksBody Language and Facial Expressions

To portray my artist as a moody and emotional person my group and I agreed that there should be no direct address in our video.

This gave the impression that our artist was disinterested and moody.

product and ancillary tasks

We also made our artist stand with his hands with his hands in his pockets to enhance the portrayal of

moodiness.

We copied this stance through the music video,

digipak and poster advert.

Body Language and Facial Expressions

Getting our artist to look at the floor in both photographs

of the digipak and poster advert emphasised the

portrayal of moodiness for our artist.

product and ancillary tasksNarrative Storyline

My group and I also used the narrative scenes within my main product to portray the moodiness of our artist.

Our artist looks moody or emotional in our music video to help portray this view.

Page 5: Question2

How effective was my communication of

moodiness/emotion in my main product and ancillary tasks?

This portrayal of our artist was rather successful for my group and I. Research in to our target audience showed us that the bands that portrayed themselves to be moody and emotional, like Coldplay, were popular with our target audience.

Not looking at the camera

No direct address

Page 6: Question2

We found this by analysing the YouTube statistics of similar bands and this gave us the idea to portray our artist in the same manner. The feedback we received from

our target audience suggested this worked well for my group and I.

How effective was my communication of

moodiness/emotion in my main product and ancillary tasks?

The target audience my group and I were aiming for was 17-25 year olds.

How I communicated my artist being easily identifiable in my main product and ancillary tasks

Costume

We dressed our artist in fashionable but non-designer clothing in our main product and ancillary pieces to help our audience find it easier to identify with our artist.

We also used a smart/casual style for a laidback approach to help with this again as it is a current fashionable style with people the age of our target audience.

Relationship Narrative

The narrative in our music followed the structure of a failing relationship, showing our artist arguing and becoming frustrated with his girlfriend.

Relationship NarrativeOther Alternative Rock artists will sing about failing or broken relationships and include narrative features as well which is why my group and I chose to do this.

The Script - BreakevenThey say bad things happen for a reasonBut no wise words gonna stop the bleeding'Cause she's moved on while I'm still grievingAnd when a heart breaks no it don't break even, even... no

What am I gonna do when the best part of me was always you?And what am I supposed to say when I'm all choked up and you're ok?I'm falling to pieces, yeah(One still in love while the other one's leaving)I'm falling to pieces('Cause when a heart breaks no it don't break even).

Coldplay - Fix YouCome up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry You don't know how lovely you are I had to find you, tell you I need you Tell you I set you apart

Nobody said it was easy It's such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be this hard Oh, take me back to the start

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions Oh, let's go back to the start Running in circles, coming up tails Heads on a science apart

Page 11: Question2

How effective I was in attracting my target audience with my main

product and ancillary tasksThese methods of target audience attraction used by my group and I were very

effective as, when asked, our target audience said they found it easy to identify with our artist.

The use of the specific narrative storyline within our music video was especially effective as it makes our artist much easier to identify with.

Many of those part of my target audience will be in or will have experienced a bad relationship and break up meaning they will find it easier to identify with our artist

as they know what he is going through.
