Introducing ABBYY FineReader ABBYY FineReader is an optical character recognition (OCR) system that converts scanned documents, PDFs, and image files (including digital photos) into editable formats. Installing ABBYY FineReader Place the ABBYY FineReader setup disk into a CD/DVD-ROM drive. The setup program will start automatically. If the setup program does not start automatically, double-click the Setup.exe fle on the disk. Activating ABBYY FineReader You may need to activate ABBYY FineReader 12 to be able to use it in full mode. Activation is completely secure and anonymous. The easiest way to activate your copy is over the Internet. Alternatively, you can activate your copy by e-mail. Introducing ABBYY FineReader

ABBYY FineReader is an optical character recognition (OCR) system that

converts scanned documents, PDFs, and image files (including digital photos)

into editable formats.

Installing ABBYY FineReader

Place the ABBYY FineReader setup disk into a CD/DVD-ROM drive. The setup

Processing scans and photos of documents

Quick start

ABBYY FineReader converts scanned documents, PDFs, and image files (including

digital photos) into editable formats.

To process a document with ABBYY FineReader, you need to complete the following four steps:

• Acquire an image of the document

• Recognize the document

• Verify the results

• Save the results in a format of your choice

One-click OCR

Running the most common tasks

With a single click

on the Task button,

you can:

Extracting text and images

You can easily copy text, pictures or tables to other applications.

Step 1. Scan a document or open a

document image

You can obtain document images by:

• Scanning paper documents

• Taking photos of paper documents

You can also open existing PDF or image files.

You can select recognized portions

of content – text, pictures, graphs,

tables, etc. – before the entire

document is converted and paste it

into your clipboard for use elsewhere.

The Pages window

shows a preview of

the pages of your

document.

To open a page,

click its thumbnail

or double-click

its number.

Convert documents

to Microsoft Word

Convert documents

to Microsoft Excel

Convert files to PDF

or searchable PDF

Select the “Copy”

button on the

toolbar or from the

right-click menu

Basic tools

A single, intuitive menu lets you get more done with fewer steps:

Step 3. Save or e-mail the results

You can save the results in the format of your

choice, e-mail the results, or send them to a

Kindle.com account.

Step 2. Recognize the text and check the results

OCR is performed automatically by default. You can edit the results

in the Text window or via an interactive dialog box, where you can

verify any uncertainly recognized characters, check the spelling, add

new words to the dictionary, or select a different dictionary language.

The Image window shows the image of the current page, with

text, picture, table, and barcode areas identified by the program.

Tools on the Image window toolbar are intended for manual

adjustment of areas.

The Text window shows your OCR results.

In this window, you can edit text and

change its formatting.
