Preparing before you go on-site1. Check Juniper software compatibility with TGM550 Gateway Module

firmware. See http://support.avaya.com.

2. Download the most recent firmware for the TGM550. See http://support.avaya.com.

3. Ensure the customer has an FTP or TFTP server that is accessible to the TGM550. If not, download a TFTP server to your laptop.

4. Review safety requirements and airflow requirements. See Installing and Configuring the IG550 Integrated Gateway.

5. Get the tools you need:

● Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap

● Flathead and Phillips head screwdrivers

Getting ready on-site1. Verify you have:

● The Juniper Services Router (J2320, J2350, J4350 or J6350)

● A 10 AWG grounding cable

● An AC or 14 AWG DC power cable

● Cables for the TGM550, Telephony Interface Modules (TIMs), and Physical Interface Modules (PIMs)

! CAUTION:CAUTION: You cannot use a 14 AWG grounding cable with the router. The

grounding cable must be 10 AWG.

● A USB modem

● Two distinct and different console cables:

- An RJ-45 flat rollover cable and a DB-9 adapter for console connections to the TGM550

- An ordinary round RJ-45 Ethernet cable and a DB-9 adapter for console connections to the Juniper router

4 Quick Start for Hardware Installation: IG550 Integrated Gateway

Upgrading J-series router software, if necessaryNote:

Note: The software of the Juniper Services Router must match the firmware version of the TGM550. See the Communication Manager Software/Firmware Compatibility Matrix under Downloads on support.avaya.com.

1. See the Juniper J2320, J2350, J4350, and J6350 Services Router Getting Started Guide, Release 8.4.

Verifying the router has the power for the TIMs and PIMs

Verify that the project manager, sales representative, or sales engineer has ordered the appropriate quantity and types of TIM and PIM modules for the router you are installing. If not, see "TIM and PIM limits based on heat and power used by the IG550" in Overview of the Avaya IG550 Integrated Gateway, 03-601548.

Installing hardware1. If the customer has a four-post rack and is using a shelf, install the shelf

according to manufacturer guidelines. If the customer is using the

brackets supplied with the router, install the brackets on the chassis of the Juniper Services router midway between the front and back.

2. Install the router on the rack.

3. Be sure the power to the router is off.

6 Quick Start for Hardware Installation: IG550 Integrated Gateway

! CAUTION:CAUTION: The Juniper Services Router must be turned off before inserting

or removing the Avaya TGM550, TIM modules, or PIM modules. These modules are not hot-swappable. If you attempt to remove or insert these modules while the router is turned on, the router might reset or malfunction in some other way.

4. Insert the TGM550 and each TIM, PIM, ePIM, or uPIM into the correct slot. If the slots are already administered on the Communication Manager server, the slots you use must match the Communication Manager administration. The TGM550, TIMS, and uPIMs can be inserted into any slots. Other PIMs and ePIMs might have limitations. See "Inserting the TGM550, the TIMs, and the PIMs in the router, if necessary" in Installing and Configuring the Avaya IG550 Integrated Gateway, 03-601554.

5. Align the notches in the connector at the rear of the TGM550, TIM, or PIM with the notches in the slot in the router. Then slide the module in until it lodges firmly in the router.

! CAUTION:CAUTION: Carefully slide the module straight into the slot to avoid

damaging the connector components.

6. Cable the TIMs and PIMs.

● TIM510 T1/E1 — H600-383 Group 2 T1 cable with an RJ48C connector

● TIM514 — CAT5 cable with an RJ11 connector

● TIM516 — A B25A unshielded 25-pair amphenol cable

● TIM518 — A B25A unshielded 25-pair amphenol cable

● TIM521 — CAT5 cable with an RJ45 connector

● Juniper PIMs, EPIMs, and UPIMs — see Juniper J2320, J2350, J4350, and J6350 Services Router Getting Started Guide, Release 8.4

7. For the TIM508, TIM516, or TIM518, use the screw at the end of the Amphenol connector to attach the connector to the left side of the TIM’s Amphenol receptacle. Use a tie wrap to attach the cable to the tie wrap loop to the right of the Amphenol receptacle on the TIM.

8. Connect the grounding cable to earth ground and the chassis grounding point. Specifications include:

● 10 AWG

● Minimum 8 Amps amperage

● Ring-type, vinyl-insulated TV14-6R lug or equivalent to accommodate the 10 AWG cable

9. Connect power to the back of the router.

● AC Power

a. Insert the appliance coupler end of a power cord into the appliance inlet on the power supply faceplate.

b. For a 6350 only, repeat for the second power supply.

c. Insert the plug of each cord into an AC power source receptacle.

● DC Power

a. Ensure that the voltage across the DC power source cable leads is 0 V and that there is no chance that the cable leads might become active during installation.

b. Verify that a licensed electrician has attached the appropriate power cable lugs to the ends of the negative and positive DC source power cables. These are the lugs that you are attaching to the chassis DC terminals.

Loading Disk on Key, if available

Note:Note: This Disk on Key procedure assumes that the router currently

has the factory default settings without a configuration file. If there is a configuration file, this procedure cannot work. However, if you want to use a USB disk on key and the router already has been configured, you can press on the recessed configuration button for over 5 seconds to delete the configuration file or login to the router console port and issue commands to set the router to the factory default settings.

1. If available, insert the Disk on Key (USB memory stick) into the USB port on the front of the router. The Disk on Key contains the configuration information. If a Disk on Key is not provided, go to Configuring the router using the CLI, if you did not use J-Web Quick Configuration on page 13.

2. Press the power button (see 1 in the appropriate illustration that follows) to turn on the Juniper Services Router.

Complete the password prompts.

● set system login user <user_name> authentication plain-text-password.

At the two password prompts, enter the password.

! CAUTION:CAUTION: If a root password has not been set, you must set a new

password before you commit the configuration. Check with your Project Manager to get the password.

8. At the prompt, type commit.

The system may take some time to commit the commands and reset.

9. Configure the MGC list.

a. At the configure prompt (#), enter exit.

b. At the cli prompt (>), enter set tgm fpc <slot_number> media-gateway-controller [<IP_address1> <IP_address2> <IP_address3> <IP_address4>]

where <slot_number> is the location of the TGM550, <IP_address1> is either the Processor Ethernet IP address of the primary server (S8300, S8400, or S8500) or an IP address to a C-LAN connected to the primary server (S8400, S8500, or S8700-series). The additional IP addresses are the addresses for additional C-LANs or Local Survivable Processors (S8300 or S8500).

10. Set the WAN interface. See Juniper J-Series Services Router Getting Started Guide. See J-Series Services Router Basic LAN and WAN Access Configuration Guide.

11. Set routing options using static routes, OSPF, RIP, BGP, or IS-IS protocols. See J-Series Services Router Basic LAN and WAN Access Configuration Guide.
