Cloud Computing: Our Future and Intuit’s® The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on how

the Internet is depicted in computer network diagrams

Typical cloud computing services provide common business applications online (QuickBooks®, Office, etc.) that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers, usually offsite at a secure server farm.

Microsoft is building a 707,000 square foot data center in Northlake, IL to support its cloud computing initiative called Azure.

Current speculation is that cloud computing will explode in Chicago as it is the hub of fiber optic cable

Business Intelligence Concepts Business Intelligence (BI)

Encompasses many different concepts and technologies to better understand an organization.

BI goal is to gather, store, analyze and share data in order to help make better business decisions.

BI Stack The business intelligence (BI) stack refers to a broad group of

technologies designed to work together to produce BI solutions. The stack often includes three layers as shown:

Database

Analytics

Presentation

Examples are Oracle, SQL, MS Access

Producing dashboards, scorecards, reports, etc.

Predictive analysis, data mining and KPI formulation

Page 19: Quickbooks Consultants Meetup

Business Intelligence Tools: Dashboard The dashboard is a display tool for users to get a visual of

performance indicators and any other relevant information

There are many different types of dashboards with different goals (operational, tactical, strategic), but ultimately they provide information at a glance.

QuickBooks® provides dashboards, but they are not robust. Intuit® started with Business Analysis ES in 2009 but abandoned that initiative. There is an opportunity for us to create industry customized dashboards, scorecards, and alerts.
