Important Instructions for Use

Use only the charger provided. Useof another charger could result inirreparable damage to Quicklook Focusand will void the warranty.

Quicklook Focus should be stored in the“off” position when not in use.

Do not use Quicklook Focus in abathroom, near water or other dampconditions.

Do not open Quicklook - there are nouser serviceable parts inside andopening it will invalidate your warranty.

At the end of its life, Quicklook shouldbe disposed of responsibly inaccordance with local ordinances.Never dispose of the unit by fire.

If the display is cracked, liquid crystalmay leak. Do not allow the liquid intoyour eyes or mouth and wash yourhands with soapy water.

Introduction

Congratulations on the purchase of yournew Quicklook Focus magnifier. Quicklookhas been designed for simple and intuitiveuse and will aid people with low vision toread and write. However you shouldconsult with your eye care professional todetermine the suitability of this product inyour particular case. We recommend thatyou read this manual carefully to obtainthe best service from your new product.

that you charge it for three hours beforeuse.

Plug the power supply into a wall socketand insert the connector into Quicklook asshown in the diagram.

3 hrs

The red light beside the power connectorshould illuminate indicating that thebattery is being charged. The light will gooff when the battery is substantiallycharged. It takes about three hours tocharge the battery from a dischargedstate. Quicklook Focus can be used whilethe battery is being charged.

Operation

The Quicklook Focus is powered on byrotating the camera to either of itsoperating positions. It is powered off by

rotating the camera back to the closedposition.

Focussing

The Quicklook Focus has a push-to-focusfeature that must be used to obtain asharp image. Simply point the camera atwhat you wish to view and briefly pressthe Focus/Freeze button and the unit willchoose the best focus for you. Wheneveryou change distance to the object you areviewing you will have to re-focus. Thereis a method for manual focussing that isdiscussed later.

Reading

Rotate the cameraninety degrees to itsfirst click position sothat the camera islooking downwards.Place the unit on orslightly above theitem you wish toread. You will haveto position the camera directly over the

area of interest. In this respect QuicklookFocus differs from a magnifying glass inthat the image you see does notcorrespond to the area directly beneath.

Quicklook Focus can be operated andviewed from any orientation.

Changing image modePressing the Mode button (refer to thediagram on page 5) on the side of the unitwill cycle through the five image modes.

Colour For general viewing

Negative Enhanced reading mode

Positive Enhanced reading mode

Semi-colour

Enhanced reading mode withfalse colours.

Inverted Enhanced reading mode withfalse colours reversed

When using Quicklook Focus on differentmaterial, experiment with the differentmodes to see which helps you to see best.

Note that all original colour is removedfrom the image in the enhanced modes.

The colour options used in the semi-colourmodes can be selected. Refer to the“Reading Mode Menu” later in this manual.

Freezing the image

To freeze the image, simply press and holdthe Focus/Freeze button on the side ofthe unit for about a second (refer to thediagram on page 5). Pressing this buttonagain will return to the live image. Thisfunction can be useful, for instance, whenyou wish to note a phone number andbring it to the phone for dialling. Themode can be changed in a frozen imagebut the zoom buttons are disabled.

Zooming

To enlarge the image, press the Zoom-upbutton; to reduce it, press the Zoom-downbutton.

Writing

When you wish to write with the QuicklookFocus, rotate the camera out fully to itssecond click position. While looking at thedisplay, find the place on the page whereyou wish to write and place your pen inthe picture. As you are writing you shouldsee what you are doing on the Quicklook’sdisplay.

At the start, you may find that yourhandwriting varies in size from what youintended. You should spend some timepracticing on a sheet of lined paper tofamiliarize yourself with writing usingQuicklook.

Turning off the camera lights

If you wish to look at a backlit display (ona mobile phone or computer display forinstance), the camera lights can reducethe image quality. You can turn thecamera lights off by powering on theQuicklook while holding in the Modebutton. To turn the lights back on, simplyturn the Quicklook off and back on again.

Manual Focussing

It is possible to manually change the focuson the Quicklook Focus: simply power-onthe unit while holding the Focus buttonand release when the image is displayed.In use, repeated pressing of the Focusbutton will step through various focussettings and an icon on the display willindicate the focus level chosen.

To disable manual focus mode the unitmust be powered-on with the Focus buttonpressed.

Battery Level

At start-up, the battery level is displayedin the corner of the screen for 10 seconds.You can choose to display it constantlyfrom the Advanced Menu (see below). Thebattery icon changes colour depending onthe remaining capacity and will display inblue if the unit is being recharged. Whenthe battery has only a few minutes powerremaining, the battery icon is brieflydisplayed in the centre of the display.

Using the Menu

The Quicklook Focus has a menu systemto allow you to customize it to suit yourrequirements. To bring up the menu,press and hold the Mode button forthree seconds until an icon appears onthe screen. The contents of the menu willchange depending on the mode you are in;the Colour Mode Menu contains theseoptions:

and the Reading Mode Menu containsthese options:

Use Zoom-up and Zoom-down to navigatethrough the menu choices and press Modeto accept the choice.

Press Focus/Freeze to cancel a choiceand exit the menu.

The Advanced menu contains optionsthat are used only occasionally. Hold theMode button in for 6 seconds to bringup this menu (ignore the icon that appearsafter 3 seconds – it will be replaced withthe Advanced menu).

The Advanced Menu contains theseoptions. Please note that some of theicons will have a tick mark or an X throughthem. If there is a tick is over the icon,selecting it will enable that option; an Xwill disable the option.

The Colour Mode Menu:Backlight - Use the Zoom-upand Zoom-down buttons toadjust the brightness of thedisplay. Press Mode to acceptthe new setting.Brightness – Use the Zoom-upand Zoom-down buttons toadjust the image brightness.Press Mode to accept the newsetting.Contrast – As with brightnessabove use the Zoom-up andZoom-down buttons to adjustthe contrast of the image.

Saturation –This controls therichness of the colour in theimage.

Exit – Exit the menu.

The Reading Mode Menu:Backlight - Use the Zoom-upand Zoom-down buttons toadjust the brightness of thedisplay. Press Mode to acceptthe new setting.Colour selection – Here youcan change the semi-coloursused in the readingmodes. The icon onthe right will appearwhile selecting thecolours. Press the Zoom-upbutton to change the ink colourand the Zoom-down button tochange the paper colour. PressMode to accept your choice.

modes you use are available. Ifyou only require the black andwhite reading modes select thefirst icon; choosing the last iconwill allow only the semi-colours;the centre icon will allow bothblack and white and semi-colouroptions to be available.

The Advanced Settings Menu:Battery display – You candisplay the level of powerremaining in the battery in theupper left of the screen.

Sounds –Use this option to turnthe sounds on or off.

Auto-off –This option will turnthe unit off automatically after 5minutes of non-use.

ResetIf Quicklook stops responding to buttonpresses it may need to be reset. Using apen or similar instrument, press the resetbutton recessed into the underside of theunit near the camera.

Fitting the wrist strap

Quicklook Focus is supplied with anoptional wrist strap. To fit this, pass thethin loop of the strap through the hoop onthe top of the unit. Pass the entire strapthrough the thin loop and pull tight.

Maintenance

Dirt and finger marks on the screen shouldbe cleaned with the lens cleaning clothprovided.

If Quicklook becomes dirty it can becleaned with a damp cloth and milddetergent. Never use any type of solventor abrasive cleaning agents. Do notimmerse Quicklook in water!

Warranty

The Quicklook Focus has been fully tested prior to shippingand should provide reliable service. Ash Technologieswarrants the equipment, when purchased new, to be freefrom defects in material and workmanship and will repair orreplace at Ash Technologies' discretion, any equipment whichexhibits such defects, provided that the equipment has beenoperated under the proper conditions of installation.

This warranty does not cover: (a) damage from misuse, useoutside the normal or customary manner, accident or neglect;(b) damage caused by spills of food or drinks; (c) damagecaused by tampering, modification or repairs attempted bypersons not authorized by Ash Technologies.

The battery is warranted for a period of one year. Cracks,scratches or similar damage to the display are specificallyexcluded from warranty.

In no event shall Ash Technologies, or its agents, be liable forspecial, indirect, incidental or consequential damages; theoriginal user's remedies being limited to repair orreplacement.

Ash Technologies makes no other or further warranty, expressor implied, including and warranty of fitness for a specificpurpose or warranty of merchantability.

This warranty is valid for a period of TWO YEARS effectivefrom the date of delivery.

In the event that technical support or repair is required,please contact your supplier first.
