Make Outer Pendant.

sing the 10cm tier of a stacked quilling form and three 17” strips of 1/4” quilling paper,o create a tight closed coil. Use a small amount of quilling glue between the layers to htiffen the paper. Once all three strips have been rolled and secured, gently remove the

from the form and allow some time for all of the layers to dry.

Once the ring is stiff, put an ample amount of glue on one side and attach it to thecoordinating (or complimentary in color) square of paper. Press down firmly and allow tior the glue to completely dry. Do not worry if a small amount of glue squeezes out from

sides. We will remedy this in a later step.

Gently buff along the edge where the two papers meet with a nail buffer block or a velight grit sand paper. Buff in multiple directions until the seam is completely smooth anfree of glue. Once buffing is complete, you can gently rub a slightly wetted finger arou

the edges to remove any residue and make the appearance even more seamless

Using 1/4 strip (4.25”) and a 2.75mm needle form, roll a closed coil to attach to the topthe pendant.

Place the side with the paper seam towards the bottom and attach the closed coil with ample amount of glue on the opposite side. Allow glue to dry completely.

Quilling The Grassy Hill.

Create a closed coil using one strip of the darkest shade of green in the 1/8” width and 5cm tier of the stacked quilling form. Place a small amount of quilling glue between th

layers. Remove the coil from the form and allow glue to dry completely.

Once dry, cut out a section of the ring to serve as the outline of the hill. Place glue on oedge and each end. Insert the green semi circle into the pendant directly in line with a

Once the outline has dried, it is time to fill it in. Using approximately 2 strips each of three shades of 1/8” light green, cut them into eights (2.125”). Roll each small piece intoopen coil using a slotted quilling tool. Secure with glue and shape into a marquis. After y

have rolled all of the shapes, place quilling glue on the inside of the hill outline andcarefully place the marquis inside using tweezers. Pack them in as tightly as you can.

fter your harvest moon has been rolled, paint two layers of glow in the dark nail enameto the surface. This will allow your moon to glow when the lights go out!

Once the enamel has dried, glue the moon into place.

Roll Small Closed Coils.

Cut the three 1/8” shades of violet into pieces of 2.5” or less. In varied combinationscreate small closed coils to be placed as additional interest. Glue them into place, focusmostly in the center of the pendant and on the left hand side. The tree silhouette will co

most of the right hand side of the pendant.

Fill In The Background.

The background is created by quilling the three 1/8” shades of grey into small open coiCut the strips into eights (2.125”). Shape the coils however they need to be to fill in all

the gaps. Glue them down to secure.

The Tree Silhouette.The silhouette of the tree is a bit fickle and you may have to play around with your piece

bit to get the shape and outcome that you like without covering up the entirety of youbackground. I suggest making all of the pieces first and arranging them within the penda

before glueing any down.

I began my tree by first creating the four small, curled branches. These are made by firutting a strip of 1/8” black into fourths (4.25”). Next, fold one of the small strips in hal

shown below.

oll the folded strip of paper using the 2.75mm needle tool beginning at the folded end. approximately half way, leaving a straight, unrolled portion.

Once rolled, run a small strip of glue along the inside, straight edges of the strips and prsmoothly together. Allow to dry and then cut the branch to size.

or the main part of the tree, you will 2 whole strips of black (17” ea.) and both the 4.5needle form and your slotted quilling needle.

Next, quill the remaining 1/8” black strip (17” long) into a loose coil using the slottedquilling tool. By using this tool, you will create a much smaller center than you had whesing the needle form. This is necessary to create the base of the tree and the lower branOnce the coil has been made and is secured with glue, use your fingers once again to shat into a crescent moon. This time however, create more of a curved shape so that when

placed down, one point will curve away from the tree as shown in the example below

Roll the first strip into an open coil using the 4.5mm needle form. Allow the coil to fullexpand before gluing to secure. Shape the coil using your fingers into a crescent moon

shape.

Shape this piece to be long and lean - it will serve as the upper portion of the tree. Seleone of the branches that were made previously and place over the background as show

below.

nce you are happy with the placement of the tree, it is now time to add the two remainbranches.

nce you have found a pleasing placement for all of your pieces, you can begin to glue thown and together. This example was glued in place in the exact order as shown above.

a needle tip applicator with your quilling glue to adequately coat the back of each pieces helpful to also glue each touching piece together for additional stability. Do not hesitao use tweezers to aid in this process. These parts are small and you will need to be care

to not get glue where it doesn’t belong.

Sealing is an optional step, but after spending so much time creating this small piece owearable art, it is one that I strongly suggest. I seal using a craft enamel with UV protectthat is painted on. The enamel soaks into the paper and as it dries, strengthens the papfrom the inside. The UV protection allows the wearer to not be concerned with the sunrays and the enamel additionally provides a water resistant barrier. Enamel is a strong

melling sealer and should be used either outdoors or in a well ventilated area while weaa mask. Health & safety come first!
