Painting, sketching has always caught my interest since childhood; whether it be an art competition in school or an everyday time pass hobby at home. From doodling to a detailed canvas painting helped me expand my imagination, thought process and improve the quality of my skills at a very early stage. Houses, buildings and structures have also always caught my attention. Since I was a child, it fascinated me to observe how many different kinds of houses existed, how buildings of different forms existed. And as I went to high school I analyzed my interest in architecture and chose that to be my profession.

Architecture as said, “jack of all, master of none”, is a true quote.Being a passionate, dedicated and hardworking child, everything I learn was always completed with 100% effort. Participation in group projects helped me realize my leadership qualities and cooperative nature for team work as well. As followed I have tried to absorb maximum knowledge(studio based as well as practical) in all the modules necessary for the study of architecture. The major modules including:*Architecture design*building construction*architectural drawing*materials, techniques &processes*fine arts*lighting and acoustics*sanitation services*history*theory and criticism* Design being the most creative and wide module has always attracted me the most. Its diversity has always motivated me to push myself far beyond my limits. Creativity, design requirements along with practical implementation has been my main motive while learning design. All the designs were completed after an intensive study and process of evolution of form, spaces, materials, construction processes for every project.

But it is not all if one has knowledge about one subject only. Knowledge of construction, drawing, materials, software's has always helped me to develop my design.

Starting with fine arts, it not only helped me improve my drawing skills but made me a better observer as well; realizing the importance of the even the tiniest detail. Moreover I also learned what a composition, abstraction, proportion and scale mean. Also the canvases and many other projects also helped me learn use of colors, contrast and their individual characteristics.

Materials techniques and processes helped me learn about different materials in detail, their properties and majorly its practical usage as to how to work with them using different techniques. We learnt about cloth, wire, paper, mdf, felt, wire mesh and timber board.

Also architectural drawing being the basic learning helped us learn as to how actually represent our work on paper. We learnt hand drafting with line weights; drawing plans, sections and elevation, axonometric and isometric views, sciography and also measured drawings.

Building construction made us learn in detail about bricks, timber, rcc and concrete. In bricks we learnt about all kinds of courses, foundation, arches and for the practical knowledge also made a brick arch on the site(in group of ten). In timber we learnt in detail about all the joineries and also made them ourselves in workshop for a practical knowledge and also learnt about windows and doors; also made a double panel glass window in the workshop. In rcc and concrete we learnt about the foundations, staircase, terrace farming, flooring and even cladding on elevation.

In softwares I know how to work on autocad, sketchup, photoshop, grasshopper and rhino.

And except this also painted walls, floors, did lighting during many campus development acticties.

CHARCOAL

The main aim of the subject was to learn the basic concepts Of art i.e. the study of light and shadow, perspective drawings, shading, sketching, role of light. We also learnt the use of different mediums like charcoal.Another thing we did was the use of different colors to change the character of a drawing.

CANVASES PAINTEDCreativity and skills were the only objectives while doing projects like these. We had the freedom to explore and express anything and everything we wanted. Understanding the depth of colors, proportions, scale, combination were also tried to achieve in the process.

SCIOGRAPHYThe study of light and shadow is called sciography. We learnt it by hand drafting as well as sketching. The concepts learned were for different forms and different light sources.

CONSTRUCTION OF MEZZANINE STUDY

We studied the detail construction of timber mezzanine in a factory. It was an area of about 250sq.m(total factory area)and a timber mezzanine was supposed to be designed for the same.

FOLDABLE ORIGAMI CHAIRDerived from the concept of origami this chair Was designed and made to understand the different Materials , their techniques and processes. This chair following the principle of origami also represents modernism. We explored the usage of mdf(medium density fiberboard) and felt together. It was made in a group of two(including me) with mdf board using hinges to create the basic structure and later on covered with felt. The chair is folded to its form from a flat sheet and stuck with a Velcro tape to join the two different ends.

My personal den is inspired by

HONEY COMBUsing principle of geometry and repetition, I designed my form using hexagons. The design also follows the principles of ANTHROPOMETRY.The aim of the project was to design a anthropometrically functional den creatively designed for a human.

The seating was also designed using the same principles. Two tables along with a table in the middle.

DETAIL STUDY OF ZAHA HADID,S WORK

D-VILLA(2008)Max build height:32 feet)D-villa merges landscape and architecture to create elegant, public and semi-public places which appears to grow from ground and float above it.

KUSNACHT VILLA(2006)Its internal and external spaces organically integrated; folding of floors into walls into ceiling- seamless flow from inside out.

Detail study with hand drafted plans, sections and elevations along with their analyses, materials used, design concept was done by me as Zaha Hadid being an ideal architect.

MEMORIAL DESIGN

This is a memorial designed for very reputed cricketer, Mr.Sachin Tendulkar. This form was evolved so as to represent characteristics of his personality and his journey as a cricketer through ABSTRACTION.The l-shaped blocks randomly arranged together showing confusion, represents the journey of the cricketer; the problems he has faced in becoming what he achieved. The different sizes of the blocks representing his success story of where he started from and now followed by the entire country as a king. The main aim of the project was to learn to transfer a character to a form along with abstraction

Page 21: QUINCY CHUGH-PORTFOLIOPortfolio

RESIDENCE DESIGNThis project was assigned to REDESIGN our own house according to the problems faced by us everyday. I redesigned my own room. I tried to resolve issues like the heat rays entering the room and heating it up because of the east facing direction of the room and also utilizing the the entire room area(100 sq.m) by dividing the room into two different spaces using a partition wall; hence separating the semi-private(siting) and the private (sleeping) spaces into two different parts.

It was done through a long processes of the analysis, case studies of famous architect’s , listing of the design requirements and hence evolving the redesigning schemes.

FISH MARKET DESIGNUsing the concept of SENSORIAL DESIGNING, this project was assigned to design a fish market. The main aim of the project was to understand the concept of sensorial architecture; where the space is designed keeping I mind all the human senses including smell, taste, visual, touch and sound. It was designed on a site in Gurgaon having a triangular shape where one of the vertices being a major node. Hence the site also helped us lean to designing on such an irregular shaped space.

REVIVAL OF MANDVITHE IDEA OF REVIVAL WILL TAKE PLACE ON 3 LEVELS:AT CITY LEVEL: The Economic Development Of The City By Introducing A Better Networking System (i.e. Railway station)REVIVAL OF RIVER-CITY RELATIONSHIP: the river in Mandvi played a major role in the past. Recreating a river edge relationship would lead to a start to the revival of the river with the city.REVIVAL OF MATERIALS AND SYSTEMS: a building which does not stand out but merges into the city fabric. The use of existing materials and system in a new way of design. The buildings will be designed sustaining the character of Mandvi and character of their individual functions but with huge volumes containing smaller volumes inside it, giving even a closed space the character of an open space.

STUDY OF MATERIALS AND ELEVATION ANALYSIS

We detail studied the sections of various buildings made up of different materials And made with different techniques to study their application, function, sizes, form, their source material to understand the properties of them separately and understanding the purpose of individual materials as their individual function with the help of these MATERIAL MATRICES.And in the next exercise we tried to GROW THE ELEVATION of an older building vertically and horizontally without changing the character it carries.
