quit your day job
Sidnee Peck@skpeck
we’ve all dreamt of being our own
bossand doing
whatever we want
Having a boss doesn’t compare to the sacrifices
you’ll make as an entrepreneur.
make sure these things are
true:
1.you’re solving a really big and
important problem
2.you have a
business model that smart
mentors have told you makes
sense
3. you have some ideas about how you’ll pay your
bills and fund the company for at least 6 months
4. you’ve tirelessly
googled and researched your
idea
5. you’re not facing a
non-compete that you signed
with your employer
and then be ready for these things:
1. you’ll have no
idea what you’re doing
what should I do today? what do I know how to
do? what do I need to learn?
who can help me?
2. you’ll feel
overwhelmed and isolated
3. everyone will have
an opinion; everyone will have
advice. nobody will understand
two categories of peopleJump!
I’ll help you figure it out.
pitch me, I’ll tell you the truth.
Are you sure?Stay until you’re
making enough cash. You have a great job!How are you going
to survive?Do you have what it
takes?
4. you’ll have to cut some things from
your life
i would do these things:
1.devour knowledge
read:• Industry-specific classics• Industry blogs• Essentialism• The Art of the Start• The E-Myth• The Hard Thing About Hard
Things
listen:• Tim Ferres podcast• Podcasts in your industry• Stuff You Should Know
podcast• Books on tape when you
drive or walk anywhere
2. establish yourself
as an expert
3. find yourself:
a cheerleadera task master
a strategic guide
4. get started on the side to make sure you really have something and
enjoy it
5. have an open and honest talk with
your family.decide which
friends get to stay.
6. learn how to say no. immediately.
7. develop daily and
weekly rituals
8. talk to your boss; bring a creative
win-win solution. consider this your
first pitch.
9. ask for help
10. be kind;
have integrity
nothing will ever be as hard as this; nothing will ever be as amazing as
this.
thank you and good luck
