Problem

Many people are not interested in the Quran because they have misconceptions about

it and a lack of understanding. There are also many people that are criticizing Islam

and trying to prove that is has deficiencies, without providing basic facts

Hypothesis

The use of data analytics will clear up misconceptions about the Quran and will

serve as a tool to refute Islam’s critics by providing underlying facts. It will also

reconnect Muslims that are disconnected from the Quran by creating love and

interest aided by the presentation of relevant facts and figures.

Our motivation

We wanted to help Muslims reconnect with the Quran and learn more about it. We

also wanted to provide customized “fact checkers” based on Quranic Data Analysis

for people that are opposing Islam and for people speaking out against anti-Islam.

Methodology

● Created a survey to better understand the problems and potential solutions,

distributed through mailing list and on-site sessions-- Received over 60

responses

● Analyzed the survey

● In order to provide fact-based proofs regarding the comprehensiveness,

universalism, and 3-D aspects of Islam, we identified 2 topics, collected data,

and analyzed them○ Allah’s names mentioned in the Quran

○ Allah’s commandments in Surah Baqarah and Juz 30

● Created a web portal to present the findings

Reason for the survey

We created and distributed the survey in order to get an idea of where the people

stand in terms of their relationship with the Quran and what they’re mostly in need

of

Allah’s names

We all split Allah’s names that were mentioned in the Quran and made a data

collection on how many times each name was mentioned in the Quran. We tried to

look at the charts/analysis and locate a trend. This can give people a better idea

about the universalism and comprehensiveness of Islam and can combat criticisms

directed towards Islam

Allah’s commandments

We read the translation of Surah Baqarah and Juz 30 and picked out every single

commandment that Allah gave us. We then categorized each commandment

according to its type. The main reason we made this analysis was to prove that

Islam is a balanced religion.
