Queensland’s premier racing period is again fast approaching and it is with great excitement that we look towards the 2014 Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival.

The mild and clear evenings regularly experienced in Queensland during the winter provide the perfect setting for the carnival’s Group racing calendar.

Each winter the industry’s participants and fans look forward to the Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival as it brings together the best pacers in Queensland and Australasia to compete for the rich prizemoney on offer.

The 2014 Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival will have a new refreshed look this

year with racing on the Gold Coast in temporary recess. The feature races historically held at Parklands will now be conducted at Queensland’s premier track, Albion Park.

To accommodate this, minor changes to the feature race schedule have occurred. I encourage you to familiarise yourself with the schedule detailed in this information booklet.

To ensure the continued development of the Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival, Racing Queensland will again increase its focus on attracting the highest possible calibre race horses to Queensland. I encourage you to put this year’s carnival races at the top of

your target race list and I trust the information in this booklet will be useful for your preparation. If you need further information please contact the Racing Queensland harness handicapping team on 07 3869 9774.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the track throughout winter. Our clubs are waiting to show you what a great time can be delivered during the 2014 Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival.

The Albion Park Harness Racing Club (APHRC) has celebrated over forty years in racing history, originally known as the Albion Park Trotting Club. APHRC is an aggregation of twenty-three individual titles providing for a total of over 17 hectares, located just minutes from Brisbane CBD. The Club has hosted seven Inter Dominions and witnessed many champions including Blacks A Fake, Mr Feelgood and budding superstar Majestic Mach. Albion Park has a comfortable air-conditioned facility, offering guests betting outlets and easy access to the grandstand to view the racing action.

The Redcliffe Peninsula Harness Racing & Sporting Club Inc. has been racing for over 50 years. The Paceway precinct extends from Oxley Avenue (between Sydney and Gomersall Streets) back to Percy Street. Many of the Club’s regular trainers are based in adjacent Knight Street or the surrounding Peninsula area including Deception Bay, Burpengary and Caboolture. Trainers also bring their horses from much further afield to participate in the Club’s competitive race meetings. The Club hosts the popular Pacers Restaurant offering stunning views of the raceway along with several bars, betting facilties, poker machines and café and seating areas inside, or by the track.

HOW DO I GET THERE?Redcliffe Paceway is located on Percy Street in the heart of Redcliffe just 20 kilometres north of Brisbane.

All winning performances will have handicapping penalties assigned in accordance with RQ and Harness Racing Australia guidelines.

Licensing: Any trainer or driver visiting from New Zealand will need to advise the RQ licensing department of their intended arrival date. All horses are subject to the HRA import and clearance which can be arranged via the licensing department.

All overseas based drivers also need to contact the RQ licensing department to ensure that any insurance coverage for them to compete in races is finalised.

Stable Returns: Need to be lodged with the RQ racing office to outline where all horses are to be stabled whilst in Queensland. Stewards may also visit the advised property to attend to any matters under the integrity function.

Nominations: Nominations can only be lodged with RQ and must be presented on an official nomination form lodged at the RQ office, sent via fax to (07) 3269 6715, email or HarnessWeb.

Scratchings: The final scratching deadline is 8.30am on the day of the scheduled race engagement. Any scratching must be phoned to the Scratching Hotline on 1800 331 308 or to (07) 3869 9774.

Metropolitan win definition: As Queensland has implemented a state specific handicapping penalty

known as ‘Q’ class racing, the following handicapping penalties will be incurred following a winning performance:

• Any race for 4YO or older horses with total prizemoney of $15,000 or greater will result in a metropolitan penalty in accordance with the HRA guidelines

• Any race with prizemoney of $11,000 - $14,999 will result in a ‘Q’ penalty in tandem with a career penalty

• Any 2YO or 3YO only races will only incur handicapping penalties in accordance with the HRA guidelines

Field Selection: For the purpose of selecting fields for any race held at the metropolitan meeting or for

any race where it is specified in the race conditions, the fields will be selected by the RQ Handicapping Panel under the manual race field selection policy which refers to the following criteria assessed equally. Current numerical figure form (last 6 race starts), margins beaten, mile rates, class of races and opposition, positions in running, barrier positions and interference received.

In standing start events the above listed criteria is relevant. Additionally all standing start form of a horse along with its last 10 starts will be analysed when selecting fields in such events.
