Box 249, Cartwright, MB R0K 0L0 Volume 121 Number 45 1.00 Continued on Page 2 Southern Manitoba R eview Serving Cartwright and Mather since 1899 Chase the Ace, round 2 Dustin Mymko Round 2 of Chase the Ace in support of Cartwright Commu- nity Independent School was held on Friday at Cartwright Hotel and 313 tickets were sold at $1 each, raising $106.50 for the school and adding $156.50 to the Jackpot. The winners of the early bird draws this week were Lee-Anne Kemp and Mary-Anne Enns. The night’s winning ticket was held by Bill Waldon who pulled the 3 of Spades and won a $50 consolation prize. Round 3 takes place this Fri- day with tickets on sale from 6pm until 715pm. We’ll do the draw at 730pm to see who will have a 1-in-50 chance at finding that Ace of Spades and winning the Jackpot (that currently sits at $386.50 with the guaranteed minimum of $500 still in ef- fect). Come on over for Chase the Ace before heading to the rink for the Clipper game. The Initiation level (age 6 and under) got things started on Hockey Day in Cartwright, with the ice divided into sec- tions. The Rock Lake 1 and Rock Lake 2 players were all out there, having a great time. There are lots of kids this age involved in hockey, and they are a busy bunch. The locals are on the Rock Lake 2 team which includes other districts, too. Their entire list includes: Messer VanDeKerckhove, Ar- wyn Taylor, Clover Holman, Gavin Decosse, Brooke Stone, Bentley Bere, Elliot Kemp, Rykr Sansom, Lainey Reimer, Oscar Vincent, Davis VanDeKerck- hove, Declan Young, Grayson Martens, Emily Bere, Lincoln Fallis, Joren Froese, Charles Tong Li, Dane McLean, Ben Young, Makayla Dobsen, Dan- ika Vodden, Parker Labossiere, Graham Long. The list of play- ers from the Rock Lake 1 (Pilot Mound & more) roster is just as long: Memphis Heppner, Gunner Follis, Holden Mangin, Gaige Gelo, Fynn Gelo, Calan McKinnon, Booker Ramage, Emery Mangin, Makena Grice, Aleah Weselowski, Jaxton McLaren, Asher Wilson, Colton Wilson, CJ Friesen, Henrik VanDeKerckhove, Jaxson Hep- pner, Jase Mangin, Emalie Col- lins, Taylor Edwards, Hunter Martindale, Nixon Patkau, Em- mett Klassen. The Rock Lake 2 Novice (age 7/8) took on the Somerset/ Swan Lake team on November 30 at the Clipperdome. Play- ers on RL2 are: Ryder McDon- ald, Lily Janz, Michael Sterkel, Emily Elliott, Jayden Leece, Andrew Leece, Alexander Gie, Chloe Mitchell, Ashley Elliott, Zander MacKay, Lexi Kemp. At the Atom (age 9/10) level, the Rock Lake team played the MacDonald 5 team. Rock Lake team members are: Piper Sawatzky, Macey Taylor, Ten- ley McLaren, Jackson Bere, Skyla Hildebrand, Kyler Dyck, Sam Hildebrand, Sammy Litau, Nate McKay. The final minor hockey game of the day, at the Pee Wee level (age 11/12) featured the Rock Lake team up against the Car- man team. Team members are: Rylan McDonald, Max Janz, Tegan Follis, Jason Park, Ja- son Sterkley, Brycen Anderson, Brad Sloane, Sawyer MacKay, John Wallace, Lachlan Jones, Dwight Sawatzky, Carter Lan- gan, Karsen Dyck. The Pembina Tigers lost 10-4 to the Mountain Mustangs in the high school hockey matchup on hockey day. The locals had a hand in the scoring though - Brett McDonald had 2 goals; James Kinley had a goal and an assist, and Wyatt Livingstone had an assist. Owen Anderson was the other point-getter with a goal and an assist. The day ended on a high note with the Clippers winning 7-4 over Gladstone. Tanner Fluker started off the scoring, assist- ed by Jory Mullin. Bryce Enns (Drew Haight, Zane McCon- nell assisting) and Jory Mullin (Logan Riglin, Tyler Wallace) added two more in the first pe- riod. Gladstone had 2 goals to the Clippers’ 3 in the first. The second period was a wild one with Gladstone pick- ing up the first two goals early, and then Cartwright answering with two of their own. Scorers were Zane McConnell (Tan- ner Fluker), and Tanner Fluker (Jory Mullin). The third period was all Clippers with Zane McConnell (Bryce Enns), and Jory Mullin unassisted adding to the final score. Two cross-ice rinks were set up at the Clipperdome as the youngest hockey players took to the ice. There were a lot of young kids out there and it looked like they were having a lot of fun!
