TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — This is the blood of the covenant that the L has made with you (Exodus 24:3-8). Psalm — I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116). Second Reading — Christ is the mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 9:11-15). Gospel — This is my body. This is my blood of the covenant (Mark 14:12-16, 22-26). The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 3, 2018

The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the L . — Psalm 116:13

The Eucharistic Gifts of Wine & Altar Breads for the Weekend Liturgies have been offered for:

Grace Ferrier Requested by: Mr. & Mrs. John McCarthy

The Eucharistic Gifts of Wine & Altar Breads for the Weekday Liturgies have been offered for:

Claire Girardot Requested by: John and Debbie Cooney

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ I never noticed it before, but our reading from Mark’s gospel is similar to the story in John’s gos-pel of the wedding feast at Cana. They begin with a problem presented to Jesus: Lack of wine (John) and a place for Passover meal (Mark.) Jesus re-sponds to both by giving orders: to the waiters (Jn) and to the apostles (Mk.) And both have miracu-lous changes: water into wine (Jn); bread and wine into Jesus’ Body and Blood (Mk.) Now the wedding feast showed Jesus replacing the water used for purifying dishes with wine to bring joy to the wedding. He replaced the kosher laws with a new one, the law of love, symbolized by the feast. In our gospel today, Jesus replaces ordinary food with spiritual food. He is doing something new, beyond the requirements of the Old Testament. What does that mean for us? Jesus is showing God’s love for us in a new way. The bread and wine at the last Supper were signs of Jesus’ body being broken and his blood poured out for us on the cross. When he gave his life for us, he rose from the dead to give us hope. And now we have the Eucharist, in which he becomes our new food and drink. Do we really believe that the Eucharist is Jesus, the Son of God? The way to measure that is to ask, how has Jesus changed your life? Do you love oth-ers more because you know God loves you? Do you have less fear of the future, because the Holy Spirit gives you courage? Let us look forward to being renewed in spirit whenever we receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

Since the tragic and horrific events of Charlottesville, VA just 1 year ago, we have seen the effect and impact that racism has had on our society. The Bishops of the US have formed a committee to focus and address the sin of racism. Here in the Diocese of Brooklyn, Bishop DiMarzio has formed a commission on Racism and Social Justice. The goal of this commission is to deal with the social and religious problems that racism in all of its forms present to us. The commission would like to hear from all of the faithful of the Diocese. To that end, the Diocese will be hosting two open listening sessions. These sessions are meant to be an opportunity for us to share how racism has impacted our parishes and the Church as a whole. These sessions will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi-St. Blaise Parish Center, Brooklyn and Saturday, June 23rd at 11:00am at St. Clare School Auditorium, Queens.

All are invited.
