The associations that have relevance in the future will be those that tackle the tough questions and decisions today leading to radical change tomorrow. They need courageous and creative risk-takers, leading the race in order to prosper. The rewards are worth it. Overall, This was the best of the three EFAMs I have been to.I got out and talked to a lot of new people. I now have a Dt. Coke friend in Louisville, KY, a bus-line friend from South Carolina, a new banking friend in Hawaii, and renewed connections with IA-NE Division members. I learned many new skills on everything from Outlook to Social Media, Project Management to Giving Feedback and Coaching. The Marketplace was a wonderful time to talk to representatives of the companies whose products we use everyday: 3M, Avery Dennison, Hammermill, PaperPro and so much more. 9Strategic Plan 2013-15Strengths of our ChapterLongevity 70 years of inspiring and equipping adminsDedicated MembersAnnual Administrative Professionals Day Breakfast EventWebsite Chapter and InternationalCertification OpportunitiesCross-section of companies representedRegular meetings in a central locationEducational (and relevant) programsFinancial stability Effective Ways & Means projectsChapter leadershipAdvanced PlanningPositive ReputationValuing the administrative profession

Transform the box

Theres a problem with thinking outside the box, says Business Strategist Daniel Burrus, We all know that no matter how creative we get during the weekend seminar, come Monday morning were going to have to crawl back into the box again and deal with our current reality. The problem isnt that we need new ways to simply step outside the box we need to completely transform the box itself.International President, Judith Yanarelli, in her EFAM address cited the following quote:

We all know that no matter how creative we get during the weekend seminar, come Monday morning were going to have to crawl back into the box again and deal with our current reality. The problem isnt that we need new ways to simply step outside the box we need to completely transform the box itself. ~~Business strategist Daniel Burrus

This quote reminded me of one of my favorite childrens books, Christina Katarina and the Box. In the story, Christinas mother gets a new refrigerator, and Christina gets the box to play with. Christina made this box into a castle, a jail, a clubhouse, a race car, and a dance floor. She has endless inspiration for what her box could be.

As you go through the upcoming year, think about your membership (or potential membership) in IAAP. What inspires you? What do you want to Learn? With whom do you wish to Connect? How will you Lead? At what will you Excel?

How will you transform your box?
