What a year... Business as usual? Not in 2020.

Change is usually fought because it’s uncomfortable to most. We like knowing what to expect on a daily basis. We plan our lives based upon our routines and set schedules accordingly. Adapting to something different than how we expected it to be is unwelcome and we just don’t like it.

What about when we’re forced to change? No different, we still don’t like it. Some will continue kicking and screaming because they don’t like it... But that’s what we’ve had to do this year in the Covid-19 era, change. Adapt, even. It’s forced us to wear masks, socially distance, tote hand-sanitizer with us wherever we go and stop racing... thankfully, we adapted to a new way of conducting club racing if only temporarily, otherwise we’d still be sitting at home I-Racing.

Kudos go out to the Central Florida Region and our partners at Sebring International Raceway and Daytona International Speedway for finding new ways that we can participate in the sport we love. Wearing a mask all day outside in the fresh air seems pretty stupid to most, but that’s what we had to do to get back to the track. CFR was the first SCCA Region to return to the track and our leadership is to be credited for that accomplishment. The rest of the country benefitted from those efforts to model their programs after so they too could get back on track.

These restrictions, err, adaptations, will eventually fade back to pre-Covid times, but at least we can move forward now...

Other events are also being affected by Covid. The Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Banquet this year will be much different. The General Membership meeting will be going virtual. The Board of Governors ,Race Chairs, and Specialty Chiefs will meet in person. The General Membership will be invited as well - virtually. Details are being worked out, but all members of CFR will have the opportunity to Zoom in to the meeting and will have an opportunity to address presenters within the meeting.

Region NewsThe Awards Banquet will not be part of this meeting, as has been the case for the past umpteen years. We will, however, be presenting awards at the Turkey Trot in November. Details are being worked out now, but we anticipate conducting a ceremony recognizing Class Champions as well as presenting our Worker Awards. Speaking of Worker Awards, nominations for these awards should be sent in by the end of October for consideration.

Some may have noticed a new course being run in Sebring over the past two events utilizing the 12-hour paddock. Why is this you ask? Change for the sake of change? Nope. Staffing. The utmost concern for conducting this sport we love is always going to be safety. We have minimum standards we must maintain in order to do what we do and in SCCA, that includes no fewer than 2 corner marshals on a turn.

Several factors have been in play contributing to a reduction in available volunteers. Covid has caused concerns, especially amongst some of our more “seasoned” folks who are more vulnerable to the effects of the virus and as such, have caused some to decline coming at this time. Additionally, since we also support other organizations who race at our venues, fatigue has also been a factor. We support these groups who race in Daytona and Sebring in order to have more favorable track rental agreements to keep the costs for our events as low as possible.

We are a club of nearly 2,500 people in our Region. Club Racing needs nearly 100 people to conduct a race weekend, but as of late, we’re lucky to get about half that. Corner Marshals are needed most, but help could also be used on Pit Lane, Grid, Start Stand, Registration, etc. No experience is necessary, we’ll train on the job. Have some fun, meet some new folks and contribute to the continued success of the finest Region in SCCA.

One last thing: In a few weeks, you’ll receive an emailed ballot for Area 3 Director. The CFR Board recommends and supports Lyn Hodges Watts for Area 3 Director. We hope you’ll support her as well!

9September2020

Dear SCCA Area 3 Members,

In mid-October, you will be receiving a ballot from the SCCA National Office to vote for the position of Area 3 Director. As a nominee for this distinguished position, I am seeking your support. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to introduce myself and provide a brief history of my accomplishments with the SCCA. These are accomplishments that I feel qualify me to serve as your Director.

At the age of 19, I fell in love with all things associated with automobile racing. As soon as I discovered the SCCA in 1987, I joined the Central Florida Region (CFR) and immediately joined the CFR Tech Crew, eventually becoming the Assistant Chief of Tech. In 1991, after a few years of standing on the sidelines, I caught the driving bug and tried my hand at driving competitively. I attended both a Skip Barber and a CFR Driving school, eventually earning my National Competition License. I absolutely loved competing in Improved Touring A in a Mazda RX-4. Even though my competitive driving days are currently behind me, I support my husband as he races a Mazda RX-7 in E-Production and my many, many friends who race.

In 1991, I was elected by the members of CFR's District 1 to serve them as Governor of the District, becoming one of nine governors guiding the direction of CFR. Since then, I have served many years as Governor of CFR either in District 1 or District 4, sharing my sound guidance with my fellow Governors as we laid out the policies and direction for CFR.

Over the span of my 33 years as a member of CFR, I have participated as a driver and have served in the capacity of Assistant Chief of Tech, Recording Secretary, Regional Secretary, and Race Board Secretary. I have worked in almost all of the specialties over the years, including Timing & Scoring, Flagging & Communications, Communications Logger, Pits, Flat Tow, Pace Car, Registration and have passed out Beverages (and ice cream) to the workers. I continue to this day to devote my

time to CFR as District Governor, Race Program Points Keeper and Grid Bunny.

Of all my roles in the SCCA, serving as a Grid Bunny is by far the best. I had never been so surprised as when I was told that I had been selected as the National Pit/Grid Worker of the Year at the 2015 Daytona Runoffs. I was actually at home, doing laundry for myself and my husband (who had already spent a week in Daytona at the

Runoffs and preceding test days) before heading to the track the following day. I truly

believed the people who messaged me of this honor were pulling my leg. It wasn't until I began receiving messages from a multitude of other individuals that I thought it might be true. I've been told by several drivers and crew members that they nominated me because of my 'attitude' on the Grid … that I always

have a big smile for them. That smile is genuinely there because I am having such a good time and so enjoy seeing everyone.

I was also honored by the Central Florida Region with the Region's Distinguished Service Award in

2017. This award is given by CFR to someone who has gone over and above to support the Region. I am truly humbled to have received this award, and I continue to give my all to

the Central Florida Region and the SCCA.

I have the knowledge of Club operations and experience to represent Area 3 on the SCCA Board of Directors and vow to be a loud voice for the all members of Area 3, whether it be Road Racing, Solo, Track Event/Time Trials or Rally Cross, I vow to serve all members equally. I'm not afraid to take on the tough tasks and never back down from a fight if the results are best for all membership in Area 3.

I appreciate your support and look forward to serving you as your Director.

Sincerely,

Lyn Hodges Watts

Racing returned in this Covid-19 era most appropriately with the June BUG Dash in Sebring after a three month standdown, four months since our last Club Racing event, the Cabin Fever Cure... how different things had become in such a short time. With the day-to-day advice and directives of the medical experts seemingly being changed as often as my grandson's diapers, CFR's board met via teleconference trying to determine how and when an event could be held and where? Would the tracks host us? What mandates would we have to adhere to? Would folks show up to race and support the event?

The April Driver School in Daytona was cancelled as the state was locked down except for essential work... isn't racing essential? The board looked at the late May event in Daytona. Too soon? Could we be ready? Would the state even allow us to gather for the event? The board decided too many unknowns for that event, so let's focus on June.

The state of Florida began reopening in early May and advanced to Phase 2 by the middle of the month. A ton of work went on behind the scenes, working with Sebring officials on what they'd require, sourcing and acquiring masks, gloves, sanitizer, etc., and planning on the best way to feed workers, sanitize equipment, minimize potential exposures, maintain distancing requirements and so much more.

The calendar rolled over to June and the first weekend we're back to racing - 118 days since our last Club Racing event. The rest of SCCA nation was watching as Central Florida was the first to hold an event of this size since the pandemic began. Another organization had actually held an event in Sebring prior to the June Bug Dash and experienced track-mandated downtime for violating the

parameters put in place in order to have their event, so much was on the line for our organization in order to stay green each day. Masks are mandatory, not a suggestion. Temperature checks prior to entering the property, mandatory. No walk-ins. Everyone - volunteers, guests, and racers must register in advance. Race teams were restricted as far as how many people could be on site. No socials. Lunches pre-boxed and delivered to the race staff. Radios and headsets sanitized daily. Registration had plexiglass barriers between staff. Race control was space-restricted as we were racing the short course, so the stewards, loggers, and communicators had to be socially distanced. So many changes...

All the planning paid off as the weekend went down without a hitch. There was some friction regarding the masks in advance of the event, but when folks showed up to race and support the event, it appeared wearing a mask was an inconvenience that everyone was willing to comply with in order to finally get back on track. We managed to get through the entire weekend without any issues. As a result, our folks were recognized nationally for their efforts. Our Chef Stewards, Leland Miller and Herb Shipp, spent some additional time on conference calls after the event laying out what CFR did in order to get back to racing. Kudos to our leadership team for their tireless work in the preparation and execution of this event.

So, the racing. Friday was a practice day for the Club Racers who wished to partake as well as a Track Event day. Saturday kicked off a Double SARRC/Regional Racing event on the Club Course, with 15 minute qualifying sessions for all eight run groups, except for the open-wheelers, who used their first session as a practice. Some on and off precipitation pestered us for a bit in the

morning, but mother nature relented and allowed us a dry track by the lunch break and throughout the rest of the day. Following these sessions, each of the groups ran 5-lap Qualifying races. The open-wheelers ran a 15 minute qualifying session in their second trip to the circuit.

The 20 minute Sprint Races began Saturday afternoon with run groups 1-3 taking the track to wrap up the day. Group 1 saw Jeronimo Esteve, who won the earlier 5-lap Qualifying Race by almost 9.5 seconds, start last in the 19-car field - I don't know why, but it didn't matter as Esteve moved his way towards the front, taking the lead at Turn 6 on the final lap to earn the overall and STU victory in the #15 BMW e36 by a 2.273 margin over Jimmy Cabrera in the #86 Honda Civic. Gonzalo Aponte made it a CFR sweep, taking third overall and in STU, in the #44 Civic.

Fourth overall was Steve Saney in the #34 BMW 330i, ITR winner, who edged Barry Burgoon, ITS winner in the #7 Mazda Miata, by .392 seconds at the stripe. Michael Paramore drove his #156 BMW 325is to seventh overall, second in ITR by a bit over 3.7 seconds. Denny Hightower took second in ITS by 3.4 seconds in the #32 Miata, finishing eighth overall .071 seconds back of Paramore. Harold Ken West of Apopka finished 10th overall in the #99 Mazda RX7 taking the final ITS podium finishing 3.026 seconds ahead of Ian Anderson, third in ITR, driving the #59 BMW 328. Michael Horn, unchallenged in ITB, drove the #10 Ford Mustang to 15th overall.

Group 2, the open-wheelers, only garnered eight cars in five classes, so everyone who showed up was assured of leaving with some hardware and plenty of SARRC points. This group ran its Qualifying Race on a wet track shortly before the lunch break, but, when the green flag dropped on the Sprint Race shortly before 3 p.m., the track was dry and the lap times showed with a 15 second reduction in the best lap time posted from the earlier Qualifying Race. When the checkered flag flew, Buccaneer Region's Chris Ronson Jr. was the first to see it with a nearly 52 second margin over the next car. However, he failed to report to

impound and officially finished third overall, last in class (second in P1 in this case), per the Supps. Jacek Mucha was awarded first overall, taking the FS win in the #07 Swift 16, as the only other car on the lead lap, completing 18 laps. Jon Dounchis clocked the best lap of the session in the #26 Elan DP02, setting a new track record for Prototype 1 of 1:06.339, finishing second overall, first in P1.

Craig Farr took fourth overall and first in Prototype 2 in the #48 Stohr SF1 logging 17 laps in the 20 minute Sprint Race. William McAllister logged 5 laps in the P2 #034 but the DNF meant no podium/points. Roelof Blok drove the # 141 Van Diemen to a FF win, fifth overall. Mike Schiffer finished sixth overall, winning the FV race in the #29 Mysterian M2 one lap over John Fuchs in the #15 Lynx B who took the second place finish in Formula Vee.

Group 3, the final group to run on Saturday, brought the largest Spec Miata field of the weekend with 39 racers taking the green flag. This group is a mix of cars running non-Hoosier tires, a divisional class. But, it is still Spec Miata meaning nose-to-tail racing is still in play. And this was the case as Jamie Tucker in the #97 Miata had Cory Collum in the #114 Miata glued to his bumper from the drop of the green flag of the 20 minute Sprint Race, as was the case in the earlier 5 Lap Qualifying Race in which the duo took the checkered flag by a whopping 6+ second margin in light rain.

Konrad Czaczyk in the #7 Miata only watched this until turn 5 on Lap 2 when he made his move to overtake Tucker and Collum. Czaczyk posted the fastest lap of the race and managed to keep the Tucker/Collum duo from regaining the lead to finish first overall by 1.231 seconds after 15 laps o f r a c i n g t o w r a p u p S a t u r d a y ' s r a c i n g . Cazcayk/Tucker/Collum populated the SM-T (T is for Toyo Racing tires) podium with 33 of the 39 racers in this group running Toyo.

The SMSE class, a Southeast Divisional class, brought six racers with Frank Shanaberger driving the #37 Miata to

victory, finishing 10th overalll. Dustin Banks, 17th overall in the #2 Miata, and Mike Tabernero, 28th overall in the #4 Miata, rounded out the SMSE podium to take us to the Social... uh, I mean to the socially-distanced restaurants in the Sebring area.

Sunday morning and all is fine in Sebring. The day was all racing with 13 sessions scheduled to run. Group 4 brought 14 cars in four classes, all Runoffs classes, to the green flag for their 20 minute Sprint Race. The green flag dropped and the pole sitter, Selin L. Rollan who won Saturday's 5-lap Qualifying Race by over a 15 second margin in the #10 T3 prepared Miata, spun in Turn 3 on the first lap opening the door for someone else to taste the overall victory... except, Rollan was determined to keep it all for himself and retook the lead in Turn 5 about 13 minutes later to drive on to be the first to see the checkers fly finishing first overall by 13.149 seconds over Bryan Horowitz, T4 winner, in the #21 Scion FRS. Joseph Tobin drove the #18 Miata to third overall earning the SM win by 4.706 seconds over Carlos Mendana in the #27 Miata, fourth overall.

Ed Barr raced his #57 Subaru BRZ to fifth overall, second in T4, finishing 1.652 seconds ahead of Reinaldo Navarro in the #25 Miata, the final SM podium finisher. Brian Ward drove the #34 Miata to 13th overall for the final T4 podium position.

James O'Hare took tenth overall winning the B-Spec class in the #03 BMW Mini with Isaac Davila in the #93 Honda Fit finishing 14th overall, second in the B-Spec class.

Group 5, the ground-pounders (17 cars in eight classes), were never exposed to a wet track, except for their lightly attended practice session Saturday morning. Charles Wicht won Saturday afternoon's Qualifying Race posting a session best time of 1:10.901 in the SPO prepared #110 Ligier LMP3 on the Club Course, almost 2 MPH better than the next best time, and looked to dominate the Sprint Race starting on the pole Sunday morning. The green flag

dropped and... Jose Garcia in the T1 prepared #23 Mustang GT spun coming to the green flag. Wicht again posted the fastest time of the race albeit a much slower time of 1:16.194 on lap 1, however, he retired the car after that lap and did not return for the rest of the weekend.

Jacek Mucha, driving the #07 ASR Mazda, would go on to complete 14 laps and take the overall win by 10.488 seconds over GT1 winner, Michael Seay in the #10 Camaro. Bill McGavic would finish third overall in the #69 Mazda RX7 for the GT3 win.

Overall positions 4-6 were all class winners. Dario Orlando took the T1 win in the #20 Mustang followed by T2 winner, Cecil Stevens, in the #17 Corvette, and GT2 winner, South Carolina Region's Danny Lowry, in the #116 Corvette.

Andy Wilkin drove the #65 Mustang to the ITO victory finishing 10th overall and finishing 11th overall was the final class winner, Nio Fernandez in the GTA prepared # 31 Monte Carlo. With so many classes in the group, everyone who finished took home hardware and points,

The Vintage group brought 10 racers out for the weekend and Michael Kennedy, having won the Qualifying Race Saturday afternoon, led the field to the green flag for their first 20 minute race. Although Steve Piantieri probably has more horses under the hood of his #95 1965 Shelby GT350, Michael Kennedy's #5 1962 Lotus 23R manages the Club Course's 11 turns better and, after 15 laps of racing, Kennedy was the first to see checkers flying, building a 28.441 second margin of victory over Piantieri along the way. Stephen Sanguinetti drove the #12 1965 Lotus Elan to the third place finish 8.730 seconds behind Piantieri as the final racer on the lead lap.

Group 7 brought 26 racers in five classes to the start of their 20 minute Sprint Race Sunday morning with Gonzalo Aponte in the #44 Honda Civic leading the way after winning Saturday's Qualifying Race while posting the

race's best time of 1:19.733 nearly 1.6 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. As the race was waning, a full course yellow was called due to a car at Turn 5 needing to be moved.

The Safety Car was deployed, the field was gathered, the incident was cleared and this race turned into a 2-lap sprint with a Green/White/Checker finish. The first to take the checkered flag was Ben Sedler from the Cincinnati Region who drove the #139 Honda Civic to the STL and overall victory by a .258 second margin over Andrew Lott, SPU winner, in the #76 Pro Challenge. Aponte would finish third overall, runner-up in STL. Runner-up in SPU was Atlanta Region's Ricky Sanders in the #19 Mercedes Benz, fourth overall finishing 1.741 seconds ahead of Bruce Andersen in the #73 Miata, the final STL podium finisher.

Kenneth Walters drove the #96 Mazda RX7 to the EP victory finishing 14th overall. Eight positions back was Paul Lopez in the #42 RX3 SP for the second place EP finish and Yuri Collazos took the last podium position in the #77 Mazda RX7 as the last car running.

Gerald Wilcox drove the #40 VW Scirocco to the HP win, 20th overall with Tom Sterrett finishing 25th overall in the #43 VW Rabbit to take second place in HP. Lou Ann Kapsin drove the #00 Miata to 23rd overall for the FP win.

The final grouping brought 26 cars in six classes out for their 20 minute Sprint Race. As things would turn out, the top five finishers were identical to the top five in Saturday afternoon's Qualifying Race, all SRF3 racers. This race was checkered 2½ minutes early due to a late race incident on track completing 12 laps.

Alan Olson was the first to see checkers taking the SRF3 win in the #163 followed by H Neil Lund in the #63 and Mike Bakinowski taking the final position in the #39 over SCCA Chairman of the Board, Lee Hill. Jose Rosado, the final racer on the lead lap, took the SRF win in the #141.

The only other SRF competitor was Bart De Boever in the #98 who finished 20th overall.

Michael Van Steenburg finished behind Rosado as the first car not on the lead lap in the #201 Miata to take the ITEZ win. Finishing five positions overall behind was ITEZ runner-up, Joseph Barber in the #172 Miata. Finishing behind Van Steenburg was the ITA podium with Glen Vitale in the #70 Miata taking the win over Luis Graciano in the #134 Civic ex followed by Phl Adams in the #68 Miata. Finishing 23rd and 24th overall respectively were John Morrison in the #51 RX7, IT7 victor, and Miki Moerwald in the #47 VW Rabbit for the ITC win.

The 30 minute SARRC Feature Races began mid-morning with Group 1 returning 17 cars in four classes. Jeronimo Esteve was having a great weekend with two wins, including the Sprint Race win starting from the back of the field. What could be better than yet another win? Throw in a new track record for STU of 1:14.800! The #86 Civic saw another STU and overall second place finish, but this time it was Alex Cabrera in the seat. Benji Riguard in the #64 Civic made tremendous improvement from Saturday's disappointing 6th in class, 16th overall finish to improve to third overall and in class to take the final STU podium position by 1.455 seconds over Gonzalo Aponte.

Barry Burgoon again topped the ITS podium finishing sixth overall by 1.868 seconds over Denny Hightower. Bruce Andersen, who finished second in the Qualifying Race, didn't show for the Sprint Race Saturday, but returned Sunday to finish 10th overall for the final ITS podium finish.

Steve Saney and Michael Paramore were the last two cars on the lead lap, again fighting for the ITR win. Saney managed to sweep the ITR victory in all three races edging Paramore in the Feature Race by a mere .168 seconds their closest finish of the weekend. Ian Andersen missed the podium with a DNF completing just 8 laps.

Michael Horn swept the ITB class this weekend with Alfonso Ruiz taking second in class as the last car running in the group.

The Wings-n-Things returned just seven racers for the 30 minute Feature Race and although Jacek Mucha posted the fastest lap of the race, it wasn't good enough to hold off Chris Ronson Jr who finished behind Mucha in Saturday's Sprint Race. Ronson Jr. would complete 26 laps in the 30 minute window to take the overall and P1 win by more than 12 seconds over Mucha, the FS winner. Jon Dounchis who posted the fastest lap of the weekend completed just 8 laps and was scored with the DNF.

September2020

Craig Farr finished third overall for the P2 win and William McAllister improved from Saturday's DNF for fifth overall and the P2 runner-up finish. Roelof Blok, FF winner, finished fourth overall and Mike Schiffer finished sixth for the FV win.

Group 3, the largest field of the weekend, returned 38 cars for the scheduled 30 minute Feature Race as the final race of the morning, taking us to the lunch break. As things would turn out, however, this race would not go the distance. Konrad Czaczyk was again the driver to beat leading the way early with John Wilding in the #126 Miata pushing. Corey Collum and Jamie Tucker were in the chase for the lead as they had been on Saturday.

A little better than half the time had expired when Steve Murray in the #36 Miata and James Blackman in the #22 Miata made side to side contact in the Hairpin/Hotel Turn 10 resulting in both cars turning head on to a hard impact into the wall at Turn 10. The race was Red flagged to allow Sebring Safety to respond. After the scene was controlled Black Flag All was announced and the finishing order was reverted to the last lap completed prior to the Red Flag.

Czaczyk took his second oveall and SM-T win, followed by Wilding, followed by Collum for the final podium position. Frank Shanaberger who won the Sprint Race on Saturday failed to report to Impound resulting in being moved to last in class bumping him to 37th overall. Dustin Banks would take the SMSE victory, 24th overall, followed by Mike Tabernero, 31st overall, with James Friedhover in the #89 Miata taking the final SMSE podium in 32nd place overall.

Group 4 began the morning race sessions and brought us back for the first afternoon racing, returning all its drivers for the green flag. Selin L. Rollan must've found another gear as he managed to chop nearly 9 seconds off his best lap in the morning's session to establish a new track record for T3, 1:17.713 on his way to his second overall win completing 23 laps. Doug Williams, who missed the SM

podium altogether in the Sprint Race, finished second overall in the Feature Race earning the SM victory in the #151 Miata by 4.696 seconds over Joseph Tobin, the morning's SM winner. Reinaldo Navarro again took the final SM podium position improving to fourth overall as the last car on the lead lap.

Bryan Horowitz finished fifth overall taking another T4 victory. Brian Ward finished 12th overall for the T4 second and Ed Barr rounded out the T4 podium completing 11 laps.

James O'Hare tasted B-Spec victory again over Isaac Davila but this time is perhaps a bit sweeter as O'Hare recorded a new track record lap of 1:27.009 for B-Spec.

The Big Bores returned 15 cars in seven classes. The overall winners of the Qualifying Race and the Sprint Race did not show for the Feature Race meaning someone else would be first to see checkers. Completing 25 laps in the allotted time, this race was for GT1 glory. Henry Gilbert drove the #3 Corvette from an overall eighth place finish in the morning's Sprint to the overall victory in the Feature beating Michael Seay, the only other driver on the lead lap, by over 17 seconds.

Danny Lowry improved three positions overall to again taste GT2 victory, third overall, with Nio Fernandez improving seven positions overall to fourth, again taking the GTA win. Following Fernandez was Dario Orlando, T1 winner, then Cecil Stevens, repeating T2 victory by 11.125 seconds over Frank Reinhart.

Andy Wilkin finished eighth overall for the repeat ITO win with Paul Troup taking second in ITO in the #98 Camaro, followed by Jarrod Smith, 14th overall, in the #198 Camaro.

The Vintage group returned for their second 20 minute race of the weekend, and often times, this group will reduce especially for the Sunday afternoon session, and this weekend was no exception. Six drivers returned and

after 15 laps of racing four were still on the lead lap. The top three finished as they had done earlier in the day with Michael Kennedy making it a weekend sweep winning all three of the race sessions. Steven Piantieri finished second and Stephen Sanguinetti third. Skip Bryan improved four positions overall to finish fourth and was the final car on the lead lap.

Group 7 returned just 17 of 26 who ran the morning Sprint Race. When the checkers flew, Gonzalo Aponte was the first to see them improving from third overall in the morning's Sprint Race to take the STL win. Denny Hightower, who finished 12th in class in the Sprint Race, improved 11 positions overlall in the #32 Miata to fourth overall, second in STL finishing over 4 seconds ahead of Ben Sedler, third in STL, who was the overall winner in the Sprint Race.

Andrew Lott again finished second overall and again won the SPU race by 9.816 seconds over Ricky Sanders, third overall. Kenneth Walters finished 10th overall taking his third EP victory of the weekend finishing a lap ahead of Paul Lopez, 13th overall, second in EP.

Gerald Wilcox made it an HP sweep, finishing 12th overall, with Tom Sterrett finishing 16th overall for the second place finish. Lou Ann Kapsin swept the FP class finishing 15th overall.

The final race group took the green flag just before 4 p.m. and completed 21 laps of racing with the top three almost making it a sweep. Alan Olson wrapped up the weekend with his third overall and SRF3 win with H Neil Lund again taking second overall. Mike Bakinowski couldn't hold the third position... Tennessee Valley Region's Wade White made steady improvement throughout the weekend, seventh in the Qualifying Race, sixth in the Sprint to third overall in the #92 in the Feature edging Lee Hill for the final podium position by .809 seconds.

Jose Rosado swept the SRF class finishing 10th overall with

a margin of 15.743 seconds over Bart De Boever, 11th overall. Michael Van Steenburg did not show for the Feature which left Joseph Barber and John MacGowan to battle for ITEZ glory. Barber, 12th overall, took the win by 7.843 seconds over MacGowan, 13th overall, who didn't finish in the morning's Sprint Race.

The ITA podium again finished in order, 14-16th overall, but a much different finish. Luis Graciano, who finished second in the Sprint Race was penalized three positions in class for passing under a yellow flag moving him to fourth in class, 17th overall. Ernest Taylor in the #69 Miata, who finished sixth in the Sprint Race, moved up a position for the win by .394 seconds over Phil Adams, who finished third in the Sprint. Steve Knob finished second in the Qualifying Race, missed the podium altogether in the Sprint, but trailed Adams by just .766 in the #77 Miata for the final Sprint podium finish.

John Morrison repeated as IT7 winner as did Miki Moerwald in ITC, 20th overall as the final class winners of this June Bug Dash weekend. After a long stint with no racing in the midst of a pandemic, it was good to finally get to see some good racing although it was difficult to see all the smiles...

Central Florida Region (“CFR”) has established a deadline for protesting the points awarded to CFR competitors towards the CFR Championship. This deadline is three weeks after the points have been published for each race on CFR's website.

Please be sure to review the points after they have been published following any CFR event in which you were a competitor. If you notice any discrepancies, please bring them to the attention of CFR's Points Keeper, Lyn H o d g e s Wa t t s . Yo u m a y r e a c h h e r a t

[email protected]. Be sure to include your name, car number and class, along with a description of the issue. Lyn will research the issue and provide you with a response.

Any revisions to the points will be included the next time that the points are published. Points are published following each event, allowing sufficient time for Lyn to update the points and provide this updated information to CFR's Webmaster and the publisher of The Checker.
