Racism is the belief that a person‘s abilities, personality, and values
are influenced by race.

Racism is any practice, belief, or stereotype that views ALL members of a racial, ethic, or cultural group as
the same, rather than individuals

Racism is the beleif that members of one race are instrisically superior
to members of others races.
Forms of Racism
Racism, be it subtle or blatant may be broken into three categories
a) Cultural Racism
b) Institutional Racism
c) Individual Racism

Cultural Racism:
The belief that the cultural ways of one group are
superior to others.

Racism found in different institutions, i.e. government
agencies, organizations

Individual Racism:
Racism associated to ones rights. Individual racism
is based on choices people make.

In 1964, local school board officials left a run-down all Black school in operation in a rural area in
Windsor, Ontario, while White children from the area
were bused to a newly constructed school some distance away.

residents.

A survey of Ontario real estate agencies in the 1970’s shoed that 27/ 30 agencies contacted agreed that they would sell to “Whites Only”

In 1973, a 16 year old Black hockey player got into a fight with opponent which ended in death. During his trial for manslaughter witnesses testified that
during the game he was called a “N####r” by not only players, but also parents who were spectators.

In 1975, a 15 year old Black youth was shoot to death by a White assailant. The shooting itself
was not necessarily racially motivated; however, the
words “No More N##### meetings” was written on a wall at the church funeral.

As late as 1973 a residential section in Vancouver was characterized by the fact that each property deed stated that persons of Asian and African
descent could not stay overnight unless they
were domestic servants.

A 1980 survey of employment agencies in Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver carried out
Canadian Civil Liberties found that 17 / 25 randomly selected
agencies were willing to provide employers with “Whites Only” workers.

Black students. Only three Black students were convicted of any illegal acts.

we went into every class, house, workplace… everyone there would also have a
story to tell about Racism.
