LEED MR 4 Steel: Recycled, Recyclable, and Re-Usable (Product Life Cycle Optimization)Stee l ’s recyc lab i l i ty i s a key factor contr ibut ing to i ts be ing a susta inable mater ia l. Once steel is produced, its l ife cycle is potential ly endless because it is easy to recover with magnets, and is 100% recyclable, without loss of qual i ty. Th is makes i t a permanent resource for society, as long as i t is recovered at the end of each product l i fe cycle.
LEED EQ 4.2Powder Coating (Low VOC-Emitting Materials)Powder Coatings produce the lowest carbon footprint, as compared to other industrial coat ing systems, saving 20-60% in CO2 emissions over solvent borne coat ings, which typical ly require more paint to obtain equivalent coverage, and more energy for solvent evaporat ion and a ir heat ing. Powder coat ing a lso lasts longer than solvent appl icat ions, thereby reducing future CO2 emissions. In addit ion, powder coating does not off-gas as solvents do, thereby creating a safer environment for both the appl icants and users.
Durabi l ityWe design and produce furniture that is meant to last generations. Our furniture wi l l not end up on a curbside or in a landfill. If/when the finish needs to be re-done, p ieces can be re-coated, thereby restor ing the p iece to a l ike-new state. Whenever possible, we ut i l ize one-piece welded construct ion, e l iminat ing the need for fasteners which can loosen and fail over time, thereby rendering the piece useless.
Low-WasteSince we control a l l manufactur ing inputs , we are able to ach ieve ef f ic ienc ies in product ion and mater ia l use, thereby l imit ing trash, and keeping scrap to a minimum. A l l steel/a luminum scrap is recycled.
Living Wages We pay our workers (and vendors) living local wages, allowing them to contribute to the communities in which they reside, and we ensure that our col laborators operate under such standards as wel l.
