LTE Uplink spectral efficiency gains (Full buffer, FDD macro network, up to 4 BS and 2 UE antennas)
• Achieving decisive UL performance gains requires 4RX antennas per sector.
• Single cell IRC and limited backhaul MRC-based CoMP achieve comparable gains.
• UL JR-CoMP gives attractive Cell Edge and Sector SE gains and is recommended as part of an intra-site evolution.
• UL JR-CoMP does not require standard support, but standard support will further enhance UL JP CoMP performance.
• In 4RX per sector, R10 UL MIMO provides best Sector SE. This is in particular true for 16QAM UL.
• Combined UL JR-CoMP and UL MIMO is expected to further boost Sector SE.

Combined CoMP & MIMO
will boost Sector SE!

Joint Operators Collaboration Project - Methodology
HSPA and LTE Long-term Radio Network Capacity Evolution Study
Multiradio Network Planning, Evolution and Performance
Evaluation Tool SNEPA
Radio Network evolution to meet requirements
Energy consumption
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
Network KPI: < 5% Outage - 256/512 kbps for HSDPA - 1 Mbps for DL LTE
Real network and site information of Operator City area
Advanced traffic forecast models Option 1: x 30 by 2018 Option 2: x 75 by 2018
Topics:
Deployment Options: •Macro upgrades to 6-sector •New Outdoor Micro BTS •Hybrid upgrade (macro & Micro)
Time horizon: • Mid-term (<2015) -> HSPA • Long-term (<2018) -> LTE
Target: Recommendations for Operator X radio network evolution mid- and long-term

Long-term Radio Network Capacity Evolution Recommendations for European Urban study cases
First: Upgrading the existing HSPA and LTE macro sites with more spectrum, followed by 6-sector upgrades (based on capacity requiement and upgrade availability for site). Next: Deployment of new micro cells in the high traffic density areas
New LTE 1+1+1 BTS at existing HSPA site Upgrade to LTE 2+2+2 BTS
New LTE Micro cells inband/ outband
Upgrade to 6-sector
LTE
Upgrade to 2nd carrier
Upgrade to 6-sector
New HSPA Micro cells in most traffic dense areas
HSPA
Upgrade to 4th carrier
Upgrade to 3rd carrier Existing 1+1+1 HSPA sites
The take-up time of LTE (& off-loading of HSPA)
strongly depends on the LTE terminal availability!

Simulation Landscape
• Link Level Simulations ▪ Baseband Signal Processing ▪ E.g. Channel Estimation, Receiver, Channel Coding, etc. ▪ Typically single cell, single terminal, no mobility
• System Level Simulations ▪ Radio Resource Management (abstract Layer1) ▪ E.g. Link Adaptation, HARQ, QoS Scheduling, Power Control ▪ „Quasi stationary“, network configuration does not change ▪ Typically single RAT, with/without mobility
• SON Level Simulations ▪ SON, MDT, Traffic Steering ▪ If >10min simulation runs are needed (hours, days) ▪ Abstracted RRM/QoS, accurate HO models ▪ Multi-RAT, full mobility, changing traffic…
• Network Planning Level Simulations ▪ Pathloss and Shadowing, that‘s it ▪ No QoS, no RRM, no Mobility

Heterogeneous Network (Macro + 6*Pico) with Range Expansion and TDM eICIC
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
throughput per User
sum throughput
only few users gain strongly
all users gain significantly
Step 1 before pico cell deployment: all UEs in macro cell Step 2 simple pico cell deployment: only few UEs connect to pico cells and achieve strong gain Step 3 Enhanced pico cell configuration with range expansion and TDM eICIC: more users connect to pico cells, and inter-layer interference is effectively mitigated, improved load and throughput balance,
