    This year we will be setting you the challenge of recycling anold item of clothing into a new outfit or accessory. You will learn all theskills you need to design, alter and revamp an unloved rag - turning it intoa must have item!

    If you are creative, have a passion for fashion and an eye for detail… We need you!

    Then the Pottery Workshop is the perfect course for you.

    Learn clay modelling, sculpting and joining techniques, build on previous experiences and develop new skills.Suitable for both beginners and those who wish to develop their skills further and create more complex designs.

    Translate your creative ideas into pottery masterpieces to exhibit and sell in our final showcase.

    Have you ever wanted to create your own video game – start from Scratch and make something that you and your friends will love to play? By the end of your UBC sessions you will have 2-3 games finished and in their boxes ready to go.

    Would you like the ‘scoop’ on what is happening at BroadstoneMiddle School?

    We will be looking at how news is reported across the media and each week we will report the news from across Broadstone Middle School as a ‘snapshot’ to parents.

    Over the weeks we will develop our reporting styles and publishing skills, as well as improve our editing skills to ensure the snapshot is of a high enough quality to send to parents each week.

    For the Outcome Day, we will report on the UBC groups across the school, giving the parents an informative leaflet on what has been happening.

  • Create a Comic Book

    It’s baaaaaack!!! The legendary “Ka-Boom!” is ready to stir from its slumber and once more hit the shelves with tremendous tales filled with wondrous words and astonishing art. From our very first breath, we have used the visual medium to enhance, embellish and entertain: from daubing the walls of caves to scrawling tags and sharing sensational street art to powerful political cartoons and crazy comic strips. Whether your taste is Manga and graphic novels, gag cartoons and picture books or storyboards and cartoon strips, comic books are a rich and vibrant medium for conveying humour, making social commentary or simply good old entertainment. So come and be creative, innovative and above all enjoy this opportunity to enrich your storytelling literacy and express your ideas in an excitingly different way. If you love drawing, writing stories and comic books, then this is the ideal UBC choice for you!

  • Clued Up!

    Do you enjoy researching and learning about aspects of the world? Are you an expert in a field and would like to share that knowledge with others?

    If so, Clued Up! is for you! We will be looking at examples of young people’s television documentaries to learn about what makes them effective, then we will learn how to research, interview, express opinions and more. We will then choose the content that we wish to explore for our audience. The content will be entirely up to you and could be anything, from food to flamingos to football to France!

    We will then film and edit our segments to create a first class documentary to share with our audience!

  • Event Management• Have you ever wanted to organise and run a large event? This could be a disco, film night,

    BBQ, Summer fete or something else!

    • In this UBC you will come up with an idea of an event to organise and run.

    • You will be responsible for booking/purchasing any items required for your event• Pitching to the Social Hub for a loan to kickstart your event• Identifying risks and assessing these• Producing promotional materials to advertise your event• Creating and selling tickets• Running your event.

    • Please be aware that you will probably need to give up some of your own time to run the event – this could be after school or during a weekend (depending on what your group chooses to do!)

  • Pilates improves posture, balance, coordination,

    flexibility, movement, sleep and concentration.

    By following Pilates six Principles, you will learn to

    calm yourself with breathing and to clear your mind with

    intention.

    By using control and precision, you will develop body

    awareness along with the tools to move confidently and more

    gracefully through life.

    Pilates exercises focus on strengthening the core as well as stretching and strengthening the

    whole body, giving you the physical foundations to perform all your activities better and with

    more confidence.

  • Sports coaching and leadershipHave you ever wanted to be able to help others get better at sport? Do want to be a sports leader? Then this is the UBC for you.

    We will look at • What is ‘coaching’ and how/why is it useful?• The mind-set of top sports ‘leaders’ and how we can use this in our own lives.• A mixture of practical and classroom lessons.

    OutcomeYou will coach adults in a 15 minute sport of your choice – they will need to ‘learn a new skill/technique’.

  • Become a Clubbercise instructor!Combining a physically-rewarding and easy-to-follow routine and an abundance of fast-

    paced tunes, clubbercise is an amazing way to keep fit and healthy.

We will then be selling a selection of our fabulous creations of gifts, cards and decorations on our outcome day.

    We will learn: - How to achieve the correct proportions

    - How to look carefully and produce detailed, realistic portraits, focussing on one facial feature at a time

    - Different shading techniques considering where a light source is coming from

    Our outcome: After practising drawing portraits of ourselves and each other we will be able to sell these portraits at the outcome alongside offering to draw a portrait of our visitors for them on the day!
