Bari towards Adriatic coast and the links towards south of Italy
and the rest of Europe.
• 660 km of new high speed lines with 145 km of new tunnels and 520 km of new viaducts, bridges, trenches and embankments (in operation since 2005 and completed in 2009), developed into 4 main civil lots
• 255 km of "Direttissima" Florence-Rome (in operation since 1977 and currently being updated)
To date the Italian network extends over 1000 km along
the most important national railway backbone Turin-Milan-
Rome-Naples-Salerno:
• 75 km of new interconnecting lines between the HS and the conventional network

Tunneling Engineering
In over 30 years of activity, our Tunneling department has developed more than 250 projects involving railway tunneling, from feasibility studies (cost benefits analysis, comparison of different design alternatives) to the design and build phase, to the commissioning and start-up activities, always assessing the risks associated to construction, operation and maintenance activities.
almost 79 km more than 93% underground 9 tunnels separated by short surface stretches.

Best experience:
Bologna-Florence HS/HC Underground Line
Bridges, viaducts and structures
One of the longest bridges in the world in its type, when put into operation it held the absolute record for cable-stayed High Speed/High Capacity Railway Bridges made of pre-stressed reinforced concrete. 450 yards in length (630 feet free span) 72 steel cables borne by 2 suspension towers 57 yards
tall resting upon 2 1,200 sq.yards artificial islands The design, building and put into operation of the two artificial islands entailed the identification and the resolution of specific hydraulic items, as the necessity of seasonal working in the river bed and the draining of the involved part by means of sheet piles.
Best experience:

Our best experiences in rail stations
In the large metropolitan nodes of Turin, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples, the stations designed to accommodate high-speed trains have been upgraded or built from scratch on projects of architects who won international competitions.
These stations are the most important factor of major urban rehabilitation projects and the expression of a new architectural style
Spaces no longer dedicated merely to train operations, but also as interaction and communication places. New Reggio Emilia Station

Environmental Sustainability
Concrete actions for an
environmentally sustainable design:
developed a methodology for the assessment of the greenhouse gas emissions produced by each stage of the project.
developed a method for assessing the environmental sustainability of projects: from a culture based on mitigating negative impacts to a culture based on positive opportunities that a new infrastructure can generate
Certification
of Compliance with

H
Digitalization
Introduce the BIM methodology in the design and construction phases;
Create and offer the AIM (Asset Information Model) to our final clients
(asset manager) to support digital Facility Management activities (more
efficient management and maintenance of the asset)
Redesign of our business processes to align our organization to the
digitalization «mantra» and achieve significant efficiency improvements.
Direct benefits from the BIM adoption
Design Quality improvements;
Cost Reduction through the asset lifecycle thank to:
• Reduction of change orders requests
• Digitalization of works supervision at the
construcion sites;
• Improved monitoring of technical and economic
work in progress;
• Optimization of facility management activities.
Aligned to the expectations of large international
players and investors/owners. Nowadays being BIM
Ready is a pre-requisite for international tenders.
The advantages that Italferr expects from the introduction of the BIM methodology are:
