Follow the Inca TrailLatin American Studies launched its first study abroad program during

Spring Break. UCF students taught English to children at an indigenous school outside of Cusco. English classes were prepared by graduate students of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) under the direction of Marcella Farina. Study abroad director Brian Yeitz led the UCF group as they toured the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Macchu Pichu.

T&T in IrelandPastoral and inspiring, the University of Limerick in western Ireland served as

the backdrop for back-to-back conferences (ProComm 2105 and Sigdoc 2015) on technical communication attended by several Texts and Technology faculty and students who presented workshops and posters during the sessions.Fernández-Rubiera Presents in Iceland

In May, assistant professor Francisco Fernández-Rubiera presented at the 17th Diachrony in Generative Syntax (DiGS17) conference in Reykjavík, Iceland. He presented a paper with Christine Meklenborg Salvesen of the University of Oslo examining the connection between verb-second (V2) word order in Germanic languages and clitic position alternations in Western Iberian languages.

This summer, ten UCF students and six faculty members participated in a trip to Moscow and Saint Petersburg as part of the U.S.-Russia Peer-to-Peer Dialogue Program, a U.S. Department of State grant. Principal investigator Alla Kourova, along with Eric Main, Florin Mihai, Rudy McDaniel, Dick Crepeau and Anastasia Salter, worked with students on the project throughout the 2014-15 academic year. All the students are pursuing a minor in Russian Studies at UCF, with some working on a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). Five students were sponsored by the Russian Club at UCF.

The group visited cultural landmarks in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as organizations including the Grot School for Blind and Visually Impaired, Moscow State University, U.S. Embassy and Fulbright Program. They gave presentations, participated in workshops and collaborated with Russian students. Two goals are the centerpiece of this innovative program: for UCF students to learn about Russian language and culture along with TEFL strategies to assist students with disabilities, and for Russian students to learn about English and U.S. culture. In November, students from the Grot School will visit UCF.
