Water storage is an integral part of any rainwater harvesting system important points to consider which will affect the storage capacity & type required is:

Water Storage
Pumps are required in a rainwater harvesting system to pump the harvested water from your storage tank to the required discharge point such as irrigation, toilet flushing, wash down etc. important points to take into account when designing the pump system are:
- Submersible pumps (installed inside the water storage tank)- Above ground pumps (installed outside the water storage tank)- Pressure (discharge head to outlet)- Flow rate (number of outlets)- Number of pumps required
Pumps
The rainmain controller is used in a rain water harvesting system to switch the system to mains water supply when all harvested water is used, this is to ensure the system will not fail to supply water at the required discharge points even when harvested water is not available. When choosing a controller that best suits your rain water harvesting system important points to take into account are:
- Discharge line size- Voltage- Indicators required (tank level, rain or mains water in use, pump status etc.)
Controller
Filtration is used on a rainwater harvesting system before the water enters the storage tank & on the discharge side of the pump system pump out of the tank. Filtration is required to make the harvested water as clean as possible before entering tank by removing leaves & sticks etc. Filtration used on the discharge side of the harvesting system is to remove finer particles & discolored water if required. Important points to take into account for filtration are:

The JV,JVI and JVN pumps are non-self priming vertical multistage pump of inline design, threaded, flanged or with victaulic coupling with equally sized suction and discharge ports. Sharing the same enclosure as the ‘OEM Version’, the DIY model has been pre-fitted with sockets for the pump, valve and float switch connections. SchematicThe unique MATelec Rain/Mains Water Controller is designed to provide a continuous supply of water for a variety of uses, whilst prioritising and maximising the usage of Rain Water.The system comprises a Controller, a unique Valve and a Liquid Level Switch. The controller not only monitors the level of stored Rain Water, switching the valve accordingly, but also provides a switched output for the control of power to a pressure pumping system. If Rain Water becomes available, the valve through which Mains Water is being supplied, is automatically pulsed closed by the controller, and at the same time, the 240Vac pump output contacts are energised. In the event of either ‘Rain Water Depletion’ or ‘Power Failure’ the controller will immediately pulse the valve open, and de-energise the pump output contacts. The controller has a ‘System Test’ function which, if initiated, changes the status of the system to enable the operator to check pump and valve function at the press of a button.

DescriptionRainwater Filter for installation in the lower section of the downpipe. It is easy to monitor due to its installation position in the downpipe. No need to lift heavy lids or to climb down into storage tanks, as required when filters are installed underground. The downpipe filter where the cleaned rainwater flows out down the filter pipe.
The Rainwater downpipe filter is also ideal for re-fitting of equipments which are not disposing of a filter. Simple installation and maintenance depending on contamina-tion. To clean, slide the filter unit out, and brush off any dirt.Connection capacity for roof areas up to 70 m²Max. Flow Rate Sieve insert aprox. 0,6 l/sec = aprox. 2 m³ cleaned water per hour.Installation in standpipes at Ø 80 or 110 mm. The upper connection can accept metal downpipes of 80 and 100.

How It Works1.The falling rainwater´s energy is attenuated by baffles in the upper filter housing.
2.Rainwater is then calmed in a small sump. 3.Water then weirs over the sump lip, and is distributed evenly across the primary cascade, the first cleaning step. 4.The primary cascade filters out any large or coarse particles, such as leaves and moss.
5.Below and behind the primary cascade is a finer secondary filter. 6.Fine and coarse particles are ejected from the front of the filter. 7.Cleaned rainwater flows out of the filter outlet to a storage tank or to the point of use or disposal system.

How It Works1. Rainwater is led onto the first filtration step.
2. Coarse and larger dirt particles are led away to the sewer.
3. The pre-filtered rainwater, having passed the primary filter, reaches the second and finer filter. From here finer dirt passes to waste, clean water to the tank.
4. The cleaned rainwater is led through a calmed flow inlet into the rainwater tank.
5. Due to the steep inclination of the fine filter and its smooth surface struc-ture the dirt is quickly cleaned away into the sewer

Rainwater filter for larger roof areas. This Filter can be installed in a pilot shaft or in frost-protected regions directly on the wall. Normally standard concrete shafts are used (Ø 1000 mm). The filter can be delivered to the site pre-installed in the shaft.Two step cleaning system, therefore high level of filtering efficiency, independent of flow rate. Due to the steep inclination of the filter cartridge the dirt is continuously cleaned away into the sewer. The cleaned water is collected in a tank and directed into the storage.Connection capacity for roof areas up to 700 m². Because of a Bypass-Installation a bigger area can be connected.Max.
