IntroductionAbout The Organization.
Biome Environmental is a Bangalore-based firm focused on ecology and architecture.
Created by the 2008 merger to Chitra K. Vishwanath Architects
Has designed and implemented hundreds of real estate developments – residences, institutions and resorts – guided by ecological principles, integrating sound water, energy and land-use thinking into design
Rainwater Club Has extensive expertise in providing knowledge services
in water management and rainwater harvesting, ecological wastewater treatment and sanitation practices
What does the organization do?Offers range from building and rainwater
harvesting design to environmental planning consultancy and comprehensive water strategizing as per client’s requirement like:Architectural designWater sustainability solutions
These include rainwater harvesting (RWH), grey water recycling, alternative wastewater treatment, ecological sanitation, and knowledge partnerships to develop comprehensive water management regimes
Environmental planning & site developmentTraining, Education & Workshops

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Preparing thematic layers of different hydro-geological features in Bangalore.
Identifying rainwater harvesting structures, water recharging structures and catchment run off area in Rainbow Drive layout and digitizing the information.

Rainbow Drive LayoutRainbow Drive (RBD) is a private, gated residential
layout that is representative of an increasingly common land-use pattern in growing cities like Bangalore. Like many other private layouts, RBD is situated outside the reach of the city’s water utility, and like other layouts, its residents were left to fend for their own water needs after the inevitable departure of the developer. RBD’s Plot Owners’ Association (POA) has responded to these tasks with longer-term sustainability in mind, rather than adopting reactive coping strategies. Led by one particularly water-conscious member, the POA has acted on the notion that water demand is the most effective rallying point for galvanizing action toward sustainability measures.

CONCLUSION The advantage of using a GIS for evolving such a methodology is that
it may be useful in the initial identification of the plots and wards, visual cross checking with statistical data, and providing a platform for presenting the 'model' to decision makers for reviewing aspects like,
Hydro-geological mapping: Ground water quality analysis and interpretation, Water audit, Rainfall pattern and distribution analysis, Strategies for rainwater harvesting including storage/ recharge
optimization, Catchment management plan, Water Resources: Total surface and groundwater resources, Extraction of hydrology (surface and groundwater) layer along with
volumetric estimates, Spatial distribution of surface water bodies and their status, List of surface water bodies (reservoir, tanks, lakes, ponds) with
surface spread and volume statistics, Estimation of demand based data - sector wise, .
