Raising the flag for Armed Forces Day

North West Leicestershire District Council isjoining venues across the country in raising aspecial flag to support Armed Forces Day.
Councillor John Bridges, Chairman of the Counciland the Deputy Lieutenant of LeicestershireMajor R D F Bream will host the ceremony toraise the Armed Forces Day flag at the CouncilOffices in Coalville at 10.30am on Monday 22June.
The flag will be flown until Monday 29 June, insync with many other flags across UK.
Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June day is an opportunity for the nation to show its support forthe men and women who make up the armed forces community - from currently serving troops toservice families, and from veterans to cadets.
This is the second Armed Forces Day marked by North West Leicestershire District Council since thesigning of its Armed Forces Community Covenant - a public pledge to support the district's armedforces community.
The council's dedicated armed forces champion is Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader andPortfolio Holder for Community Services. She said: "We do numerous things throughout the year tocelebrate and support our armed forces as we believe it's important to recognise the work that theydo. I would like to encourage members of the community to join us at the flag raising on Monday, orjoin in with one of the many events being held on Armed Forces Day itself."
A whole host of events have been planned around the country for Armed Forces Day itself and theweeks leading up to it, with businesses and communities showing their support.
