Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Launches
'First Ever' City Branding Initiative In India
Meragra: A one-of-a-kind city branding initiative
launched by Uttar Pradesh Tourism along with The
Design Village as knowledge partner and Kingdom of
the Netherlands as jury partner witnesses an
overwhelming response!
February 14, a day that symbolises love globally was
dedicated to express gratitude to the city of Agra by
presenting it with a distinct identity of its own—a logo,
that was unveiled by Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister
Uttar Pradesh. The logo was an extension to the
Meragra-graphic design competition where
participants were welcomed from across the world.
From over 7,000 entries, 10 winners were felicitated by
Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh at the Taj
Nature Walk earlier this morning. A gala award
ceremony was commemorated to acknowledge the
creativity that came in through this exercise.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony were Dimple
Yadav; Cees Bansema, Deputy Ambassador Kingdom
of the Netherlands; Raja Mahendra Aridaman Singh,
Stamp Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Om
Prakash Singh, Tourim Minister, Government of Uttar
Pradesh; Indrajeet Arya, Mayor Agra; Sourabh Gupta,
Design Dean and Founder, The Design Village;
Navneet Garg, Industry Dean and Founder, The Design
Village.
While addressing the audience, Akhilesh Yadav, Chief
Minister Uttar Pradesh, said, “Our cities have so much
to offer but don't know how to brand it. Taj Mahal is a
symbol of love and it needs to be celebrated. In a
dialogue with The Design Village, the idea of city
branding came up and I couldn't resist extending
support to this beautiful initiative.”
Due to the overwhelming response from design
enthusiasts from across the nation, The Design Village
ensured it provides a platform for such creativity to
dwell further, in lieu of which the institute distributed
scholarships to five deserving candidates.
Taking things ahead, the initiative was appreciated by
all and after the successful run of Meragra campaign,
the Uttar Pradesh Tourism along with The Design Village
plan to create identity for the following cities:
1. Lucknow
2. Noida
3. Varanasi
“After the success of this campaign, I extend my
support to The Design Village as knowledge partners
for City Branding of other cities of Uttar Pradesh,
namely Lucknow, Noida and Varanasi,” Akhilesh
Yadav, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh.
