New Hartzell ScimitarPlus propeller blades offer a unique combination of blended aluminum airfoil design and tip sweep, which deliver higher all-around performance. RAM incorporates Hartzell’s ScimitarPlus Blended Airfoil design propellers into Cessna 402C and all RAM 310 hp, 325 hp and 335 hp Cessna 340/A, 414 and 414A RAM Series IV, VI and VII installations. The RAM FAA STC SA09971SC-D for above ScimitarPlus installations was approved by EASA STC 10032348, Rev.1 of November 2 nd , 2010. The curved ScimitarPlus blades utilize a high lift series of airfoils at mid- blade sections to enhance aircraft take-off and climb performance. A combination of tip sweep and a series of airfoils at the tip sections cause lower transonic drag, resulting in a very low noise signature. This proprietary blend of airfoils also generates excellent cruise performance in the thinner air at high altitudes. Hartzell has essentially presented a generational leap in manufacturing with its new ScimitarPlus propeller blade manufacturing process. The new process represents a $3 million investment in technology. Overall, the new process greatly improves the accuracy of manufacturing, reducing blade-to- blade weight and aerodynamic variability. The result for pilots and passengers is smoother running propellers

Hartzell ScimitarPlus propeller are approved for installation on 340/A, 402C and 414/A airframes.

The ScimitarPlus blade shank machining process establishes all the other dimensions of the blade, controlled to .0001 inch ( one-ten thousandth of an inch ) or 2.5 microns. The airfoil is then produced from the computer generated solid model, cut in a single pass using a 7-axis mill. New non-destructive test cells provide more reliable testing. An environmentally friendly semi-automated Dynamic Cloud fluorescent penetrant inspection process ensures blades are free from even the most minuscule surface flaws. Hartzell is also developing the next generation of NASA GAP program propeller designs based upon Blended Airfoil Technology, the same technology behind Hartzell’s ScimitarPlus propeller which is offered by RAM. The set of two propellers includes two spinner assemblies and the RAM STC.
