RAMADAN It was the month of Ramadan in which the Quran was (first) sent down as Guidance for all of Humankind, having clear proofs of guidance and the criterion between (right and wrong)...• (Quran 2:185) SIYAM O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it has been prescribed for those before you so that you may be ever Allah-conscious. • (Quran 2:183) AFTER IFTAR ُ َ ﺎءَ ْ نِ إُ رْ َ اﻷَ تَ َ َ وُ وقُ رُ ْ اﻟِ ﻠﱠتَ ْ اﺑَ وُ َ اﻟظﱠﻣَ بَ ھَ ذDhahaba adh-Dhama ‘, wa ‘btallat al-’urooq, wa thabat al-ajru, in-sha’Allah Thirst is gone, veins are flowing again, and the reward is certain, in-sha’Allah BEFORE FAST Fasting in Islam, it means abstaining from things that break the fast, from dawn until sunset, having first made the intention to fast in your own words. (Make sure to always make intention before fast.) (Quran 2:184) Hadith on fasting: Islam is built on five pillars - Among which he mentioned fasting in Ramadan. (Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 1/49) Hadith Qudsi on fasting: Except for fasting which is only for My sake and I will reward him for it. (Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 1904) Who is obligated to fast? Fasting is an obligation to every adult, sane, settled (not travelling). A child is deemed to have reached Adulthood/Baaligh or age 15 years. Note: Children should be instructed to fast at the age of seven. Whoever breaks the fast during Ramadan without legitimate excuse has committed a serious major sin. Have Sahoor (last meal before dawn) We should make sure that we eat and drink something at sahoor and that we delay it until just before the Fajr adhan. (Have sahoor at the last portion of the night) Hadith: Have sahoor, for in sahoor there is blessing(barakah) (Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 4/139) Iftar (breaking fast at sunset) Break your fast in the manner described in the Hadith: “The Prophet (s.a.w) used to break his fast with fresh dates before praying; if fresh dates were not available, he would eat dried dates; if dried dates were not available, he would have a few sips of water.” (Tirmidhi 3/79) Taraweeh Prayer Hadith: “Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven”. (Bukhari 3/226) Laylatul Qadr The night of decree is better than a thousand months. (Quran 97:03) Dua to be recited on the night of Laylatul Qadr: Allahumma innaka afu’wwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni Sadaqatul Fitr The Prophet (s.a.w) prescribed Sadaqatul Fitr as an obligatory duty in order to Purify those who fast, from useless and obscene activities and to provide food for the poor. **Start of Ramadan depends on local moon sighting.
