Fasting is prescribed for you as it has been prescribed for those before you so that you may be ever Allah-conscious. • (Quran 2:183)

Allah (s.w.t) encourages His slaves to fast:
And that fast is best for you, if only you knew. (Quran 2:184)
Hadith on fasting:Islam is built on five pillars - Among
which he mentioned fasting in Ramadan. (Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 1/49)
Hadith Qudsi on fasting:Except for fasting which is only for My
sake and I will reward him for it.(Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 1904)
Who is obligated to fast?Fasting is an obligation to every adult,
sane, settled (not travelling).A child is deemed to have reached
Adulthood/Baaligh or age 15 years.Note: Children should be instructed to fast at
the age of seven.Whoever breaks the fast during Ramadan without legitimate excuse has committed a
serious major sin.
Have Sahoor (last meal before dawn)We should make sure that we eat and
drink something at sahoor and that we delay it until just before the Fajr adhan.
(Have sahoor at the last portion of the night)Hadith: Have sahoor, for in sahoor there
is blessing(barakah) (Bukhari, Fath al-Bari, 4/139)
Iftar (breaking fast at sunset)Break your fast in the manner described
in the Hadith:“The Prophet (s.a.w) used to break his
fast with fresh dates before praying; if fresh dates were not available, he would
eat dried dates; if dried dates were not available, he would have a few sips of
water.” (Tirmidhi 3/79)
Taraweeh PrayerHadith: “Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere
faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be
forgiven”. (Bukhari 3/226)
Laylatul QadrThe night of decree is better than a
thousand months. (Quran 97:03)Dua to be recited on the night of
Laylatul Qadr: Allahumma innaka afu’wwun tuhibbul
‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni
Sadaqatul FitrThe Prophet (s.a.w) prescribed
