With an unrelenting passion for animals and a deep sense of re-sponsibility to local wildlife, the

San Diego Fawn Rescue is on a mission to give abandoned fawns a second chance.

According to rescue director Shawnie Williams, the nonprofit organization receives calls from all over Southern California with pleas for help.

“We’re on call 24 hours a day,” she says.

Last year, the team took in 17 fawns. Five came from Julian, and the rest were from Ramona, Santa Ysabel, Cuyamaca, Barona, Sorrento Valley, Rancho Penasquitos, Big Bear and Temecula.

“That’s a lot for us,” she says, grateful to generous donors and volunteers for raising enough money to build an enclosure in Ramona.

The average cost to rehabilitate a fawn is about $3,500. That amount includes formula, feed, volunteer hours, vet bills, travel expenses and ongoing operating expenses such as permits.

“This is the time of year when we start getting calls,” Williams says.

In an effort to educate the public about the dos and don’ts when it comes to sheltering a lost fawn, she encourages people to understand the difference between an abandoned animal and one that is safe.

“A nesting fawn was set somewhere intentionally. The mom is nearby and watching. People should leave it alone. But if a fawn is wandering around, crying or standing near its dead mother, it needs help.”

Deer are skittish, stressed animals. The local breed is descended from the southern mule deer, which has eight sub-species.

The majority of orphans are a result of their mother being killed by a vehicle, mountain lion or coyote.

“In those cases, we try to get them back into the wild as soon as possible.”

each situation is different, and that’s why the group completes an intake sheet upon arrival. It identifies where the fawn was found, lists injuries and tracks its food and recovery process.

When needed, they call veterinarian Todd Cecil, DVm.

“Since we get a broad spectrum of ages — from only a few hours old, weighing four pounds, to nearly full grown — our goal is the same: to have very little contact with them and keep them wild,” Williams says.

With two herds in the region, rescued animals are separated for genetics purposes and disease prevention.

Handlers wear a unique deer mask and gloves while bottle feeding goat colostrum to the infants. Since fawns are lactose intolerant, a special formula is prepared.

When the spots on their hindquarters disappear, the animal is ready to return to the wild. Volunteer Birney Groom offers the use of his horse trailer and gives his time helping repopulate the animal within three miles of where it was originally found.

Last year, eight fawns were successfully returned to the wild, including a twin rescued when it was only two hours old after its mom was killed by a car.

“The boy died, but we were able to save the girl.”

Williams says the release can be emotional, especially since it takes about

four months to rehabilitate one fawn.“To see them in the wild, run free, is

such a euphoric feeling. You know it’s where they belong. It liter-ally brings tears to your eyes.”

At the same time, only about 50 percent of orphaned fawns survive.

She cautions people not to feed, pet or play with the wild animals, or they could be signing its death warrant.

“Some people find a fawn, take it home, feed it milk and let it sit on the couch with the family dog. But it can become a dangerous situation when the baby matures and acts aggressive, especially during mating season.”

Driven solely by volunteers, the rescue group works closely with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. They are permitted to rehabilitate wildlife and inform wardens when an animal is ready for release.

“We have a very strict protocol and follow it to the letter.”

Last month, the group hosted an open house.

“We want to show our donors what we are doing.”

Williams credited Terry and Tom Lockwood for volunteering their Ramona property, helping build the enclosures, and aiding in the recovery

efforts, and thanked Peggy Chaplin for her dedication. She also applauded her husband, Scott Williams, for his unwavering support during the past 15 years of rescuing animals.

The group could use more volunteer feeders, since the fawns eat four times a day. other wish list items include ado-lescent deer food, such as yard clippings and tree branches, along with monetary donations, which can be made through their parent organization’s website at www.skyhunters.org, with a notation that the funds are designated for the deer team.

“I’ve always been inspired to save animals,” Williams says. “I respect nature and enjoy giving these fawns a second chance at life. After all, if we don’t help them, who will?” n

Fun and Frolic at Spring Garden FestFun activities and a focus on

gardening will be a highlight of the Spring Garden Fest, presented by the Ramona Garden Club at Ramona Library on April 25.

In addition to the club’s popular plant sale, there will be a free seed and bulb swap booth, where people may bring one and take one.

The plant sale will feature specialty plants, strawberries, plumerias, pond plants, garden art items, crafts, fairy gardens, bird feeders and more.

There will be also be a wide variety of vendors offering unique items and kettle corn.

Serve ramonaLocal Organization Seeks to Unify Community Services

Arthur Blanck has a vision — a vision of all the churches and local service organizations in Ramona

working together to identify and address the needs of the community, for the greater benefit of all. With more than 26 churches and as many as 100 different service organizations in town, that’s a tall order.

board had become discouraged by the diminishing local participation in such traditional programs as annual CRoP (Christian overseas Rural Program) Walk through Church World Service (CWS), of which 25 percent of funds were allocated to Ramona, but which sometimes suffered from a lack of alignment between CWS policies and those of some local churches.

“We realized that we would have to find some common ground as the cornerstone of any new organization and leave out any differences we may have on theological beliefs and prac-tices,” explains Blanck.

The new organization — Serve Ramona — debuted in october 2014, with a meeting at FCC attended by representatives of five local churches, including FCC, St. mary’s-in-the-Valley episcopal Church, Ramona Southern Baptist Church, Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church and Ramona Church of Christ.

Subsequent meetings have included the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ramona united methodist Church, Immaculate Heart of mary Catholic Church and mountain View Community Church. main Street Roca Church, Ramona Lutheran Church and Ramona Valley Presbyterian Church have recently shown interest in attending future meetings.

“It became clear during this initial meeting that the focus point of the group was service,” says Blanck. “As a result, I began to reach out to local community service groups, including the Food & Clothes Closet, Ramona Senior Center, Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic, and to Kim Lasley, a friend and Ramona school board member.”

Lasley facilitated Blanck’s introduc-tion to the Palomar Health Community Action Group and also provided Serve Ramona with its first service opportu-nity — working with the community in the cleanup of part of the Santa maria Creek off montecito Road. Serve Ramona was able to provide 30 percent of the workforce for the project. This enabled the fledgling organization to establish new relationships with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Ramona Substation and the Ramona Trails Association, a group they subsequently worked with to remove invasive species from the Santa maria Creek cleanup area in an effort to make it easier to use and patrol.

Blanck has recently been invited to become a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Sheriff’s Department, representing the faith community with a focus on forming a working relationship to identify potential service opportunities that could be offered to the community

mt. Woodson elementary School held a rodeo-themed Family Reading night, inviting miss

Ramona Rodeo Brittney Phillips to read to students and their families.

The second-annual event took place march 19, with 145 students, family members and staff in attendance.

“There was a much bigger turnout than last year,” said the school’s read-ing program coordinator and event organizer Amy Williams, the parent of a second-grader.

The event included a hot dog dinner before Phillips arrived to read two sto-ries, answer questions, pose for pictures and visit with the students.

“everyone was excited to hear she was going to be there,” Williams said. “In addition to having Brittney as our guest reader, there were two rodeo-themed games to play and a craft table with rodeo-themed activities, such as coloring sheets, word search and ‘mad Libs,’ and a make-your-own bookmark craft. I also had rodeo-themed books available for families to read together.”

“It’s always a pleasure being a part of children’s events,” said Phillips. “our children are our future. I can’t express enough how important it is to recognize that and how crucial things like this are to keeping such a loved heritage and tradition of rodeo alive and well.”

Phillips encouraged the children to come and enjoy Ramona Rodeo Kids’ Day activities at noon on may 17.

miss Ramona and Teen miss Ramona contestants are perfecting their skills before they face judges and

an audience at the miss Ramona and Teen miss Ramona Scholarship Pageant 2015, set for April 11.

2014 miss Ramona Courtney Ford and Teen miss Ramona elizabeth Bowersox are right beside the contestants, coach-ing them and helping them prepare to answer interview questions, write speeches, walk in heels and present themselves in front of a live audience.

This year’s pageant theme will be ‘50s night. The opening number is a dance to “Rockin’ Robin,” and the contestants will wear denim capris, ankle socks and over-sized white shirts, with a decorative pin of each girl’s initial on the pocket.

The age range for miss contestants is 17 to 25, and Teen is 13 to 16.

Competing in the miss category will be Grace Berry, Allison Gaither, Shannon Huff and Shannon Singleton.

Going for the Teen title are Aixa Garcia-Cedillo, Ashley Dominguez, megan Kelly, macKenzie nolan, Anna Simmons and Ciara Webb-martin.

miss Ramona Courtney Ford says they have rehearsals two times a week. She advises the future miss Ramona and Teen miss Ramona to just take it day-by-day

and embrace everything, because, “It goes fast.”

She says that the future queens should try to do as much as they can in Ramona.

“We do a lot with our sister queens in Lakeside and Julian,” she added. “We do a lot of stuff down the hill.”

The thing that Ford will miss most about her reign is the environment that the crown and sash bring.

“It’s a confidence boost,” she says, pointing out that it’s amazing how a piece of metal and bit of fabric can turn on the smiles and add to one’s self-esteem. She never considered herself a “pageant girl,” but it became a whole different experience than all the clichés she’d heard.

“It’s a greater experience than what you think.”

It even got her thinking about get-ting into the miss America system. In addition, she wants to pursue public speaking. In the fall, she will be going to north Central College in Illinois, and says, “I am really excited.”

Bowersox, the reigning Teen miss Ramona, is a junior at Ramona High School. Her college plans are to pursue environmental studies at university of Southern California or university of Colorado, Boulder.

She previously served as a 2013 Teen

miss Ramona Princess. “The pageant has become who I am. I

have been a part of the pageant for two years,” she says, adding that her favorite thing in the world is to get dressed up and wear heels.

The time goes by quickly, she says. First, it is spring, and then come the Ramona Rodeo, Lakeside Rodeo,

Lakeside Parade, Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas — and before you know it, it’s rehearsal time again.

The last few weeks before the pag-eant are nerve-wracking for the contes-tants, and Bowersox says she hopes to give them as much advice as possible and lift them up.

“Help is crucial to them on stage,” she

says. During the pageant, contestants will give a three-point presentation. Three girls will be on stage at a time, and each will say her name, sponsor and contestant number.

As her reign ends, Bowersox plans to use the skills she learned the past year in her everyday life. She will miss bond-ing with sister queens and meeting little kids, and has enjoyed giving back to the community.

“It’s really humbling,” she says. “It’s an honor to represent the town and be looked at as an example to peers.”

montecito High School Principal Dave Lohman was named by the

Association of California School Administrators last month as State Administrator of the Year for Continuation High School Principal. He was previously hon-ored at the county level.

Lohman will be recognized in november at the State Leadership Summit by the Association of California School Administrators.

“This extraordinary recog-nition comes at a time when montecito has had its full WASC accreditation restored, has been honored as a model

Continuation School, and when new programs and student services at the school are beginning to emerge,” said Ramona unified School District Superintendent Robert W. Graeff. “Although it takes a fully devoted team to make schools serve students well, the leader of the organization can make an incredible difference.”

The school was one of only 29 schools in California to be named last month as a model Continuation High

School for “providing innovative programs and comprehensive services to students who may have otherwise been at risk of not graduating,” according to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. n

announced last month the selection of mike Zehm as Teacher of the Year, and Tim Kuebler as Classified employee of the Year.

mike Zehm has been a Ramona elementary School teacher for 34 years. He was recognized by Graeff as being an extraordinary member of the faculty and a genuine leader on his school’s staff and on committees throughout the district.

“With a long record of raising student achievement levels in his Title I school, mike is an outstanding representative of the teaching profession and truly models the very best of what every parent would want from their child’s classroom teacher,” said Graeff.

Would you like to learn how to make your own, super-cool website?

or challenge your brain with a math puzzle? These were only two of the more than 15 apps made by attendees at CodeDay.

CodeDay is a 24-hour pro-gramming marathon for middle school through college students. We focus on the people, not the

end result and prices — which is how we are different.

Instead of judging solely based on how cool something is, we judge above all on wheth-er or not the people had fun, pushed themselves and learned

something new. We invest in people and communities.

CodeDay is held three times a year in upwards of 20 cities (visit www.codeday.org). We had more than 90 people attend the San Diego event, the second largest nationwide. Participants were between 35 and 45 percent girls, and more than 60 percent of the people who came were new to programing, coming in with

little to no experience. I had the pleasure of organiz-

ing CodeDay Winter 2015 this past February, and it was a blast. I am responsible for organizing and managing the event from start to finish. Planning typically starts three months before the

event, and is split up into three phases: venue, sponsors and promotion. The most difficult task is finding a venue that is capable of holding around 100 people and allows us to stay overnight. Some events don’t take place because organizers cannot find a venue in time. But this wasn’t the case in San Diego. We were hosted by CyberHive, a startup incubator in downtown San Diego.

CodeDay provides students an amazing way to learn things, make friends, and make connections that will prove to be useful later in life. It is an excellent learning environment

for beginners, because they have lots of resources available, such as workshops, volunteers and the people around them — stuff you usually wouldn’t have at home.

The event is great because it gets rid of the daunting feeling in beginners when it comes to programming, and it encourages students to learn and puts them with others like them so they can learn together.

“CodeDay is a very social event, as well,” said T.J. Horner, a local organizer for the event who has attended several of them. “I’ve seen lots of friend-ships come out of CodeDay.”

Ramona resident Don owen, who turned 95 last month. Among those present were his son and

Soroptimists ready for Laughs at ‘Girls night out’Soroptimist International of

Ramona will host an evening of laughs April 17, as its “Girls night out” dinner fundraiser presents the standup comedy of Cindy Burns and Vicki Barbolak, known as the “Fabulously Funny Femme Fatales.”

The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. in the San Diego Country estates Rotunda at 16911 Gunn Stage Rd.

Burns says she is a 25-year-old trapped in the body of a 55-year-old. “I used to be the kind of girl that said, ‘You can look but don’t touch.’ I’m at the age now where you touch but don’t look!” She created, pro-duces and performs with “The Funniest Housewives of orange County” and has appeared on “The oprah Winfrey Show” and “The Tonight Show.”

Barbolak bills herself as a “trailer trash housewife,” boasting that she finally closed escrow — at the DmV. She talks about marriage and kids, and is known as the funniest mom in the PTA. She was selected to be a member of Jay Leno’s Laugh Squad at nBC and is the 2007 winner of nickelodeon’s “Funniest mom in America,” hosted by Roseanne Barr.

General admission tickets are $45 per person and include dinner and a glass of wine.

VIP tickets include front-row seating, dinner, Champagne and chocolates, for $250 per table of four. Proceeds will help the Soroptimists with their goal to improve the lives of women and girls in the community and throughout the world.

Wheels America (moWA) in order to increase funding opportunities for their existing program, which serves more than 8,000 meals a month to seniors in need.

Considering that the RSC delivers meals daily across nine ZIP codes and some 35 square miles throughout the back-country, the cost of gasoline is a big part of their monthly bud-get. Last year, the organization applied for a grant from the Ford motor Company to defray that cost at the pump. Ford denied the application because they don’t recognize the coun-ty’s meal program.

That got the RSC board thinking that the $150 annual

membership fee to join moWA, an organization that is widely known, would be a worthwhile investment.

“We’ll get one-hundred-fold back on our dues,” said executive Director Ray Cardona, who has been with the RSC for 14 years.

membership is open to non-profit and tribal organizations, and governmental agencies that provide meals to seniors. It includes access to moWA services, such as education and training, national funding campaigns, advocacy, members-only grants, discounts on products, volunteer recruitment and more.

Adding moWA to the

center’s resources will not have any direct effect on the meals, which the RSC currently provides for a voluntary con-tribution. no senior is denied food if they cannot afford to contribute.

The food will continue to be purchased from u.S. Food Service and prepared locally starting at 6 a.m., monday through Friday.

Saddle Up for Poker Ride

San Vicente Saddle Club’s annual Poker Ride is set for April 25 at the San Diego Country estates International equestrian Center, 16911 Gunn Stage Rd.

The ride has grown year after year, offering excellent trail riding with different groups of varying skills and speed, a catered lunch, raffle and silent auction, and the chance to win cash with a winning poker hand.

Soroptimist Seuss Fundraiser is a Hit

members of Soroptimist International of Ramona hosted a Dr.

Seuss Breakfast for Dinner fundraiser at Ramona Café last month. They worked side-by-side with café owner and fellow Soroptimist Sonja Steiner and her staff to serve unique items, such as green eggs and ham.

Steiner reported that the organization raised $2,000 in profits, which will help fund scholarships and awards to girls and women in the community.

“The Soroptimist Club of Ramona appreciates everyone locally and in neighboring towns for their support at this event,” Steiner said. n

many kids dream about having their own business and making money. Two young Ramona-based

entrepreneurs made this dream a reality and launched their own businesses. They are learning what it takes to make money at a young age.

owen Windham of o-win Headbands has a motto: “u-win when you wear o-win.”

The second-grader, who is home-schooled and attends Julian Charter School, wanted to start his own business so he could make some extra money and make himself a vest. He likes to dress nicely, often wearing a suit and tie.

His mother, marjorie Windham, said her son wanted to get nice fabric and make clothes to fit a certain way and

feel right. He learned how to use a sewing machine, and his dad helps him cut with the wheel because it is very sharp.

He started making workout head-bands, perfect for keeping the sweat out of your face.

The headbands started to take off at neighborhood CrossFit, where owen participates in kids CrossFit classes. In addition to the standard headband, he also makes a version that ties in the back like a bandana. He is working on making fashion headbands using lighter, sparkly fabric. He has sold his headbands in different church groups and through his school, where he used his business as a project. He sold his headbands to teachers.

“I like to make headbands for men,” says owen.

For the guys, he uses gray, black and neutral colors. He says that he likes sew-ing headbands, but it can get expensive.

“I have learned that I have to pay

some money to get some money.” Shipping, too, can be pricey. He

has shipped from both the post office and uPS. He said it turns out the post

office has better prices. He has shipped to places as far as Boston and Florida.

Shipping is not the only cost he has encountered. He has to buy fabric and labels. He just got some new spring fabric and business cards. After invoices are issued, he collects money through PayPal. Little fees add up, and he has learned how to keep a close inventory and pay himself. The headbands are $5 each. If you buy 10, he will lower the price to $4 each.

owen has a Facebook page, “owin Headbands,” and his products will soon be available at Salon Blondies.

“Businesses have been excited and supportive,” says marjorie Windham, who adds that local merchants are asking to carry owen’s business cards.

Another up-and-coming entrepreneur, 9-year-old Brooke Helms, sells bags she sews her-self with the goal to help fight cancer. She sells them empty

or with items inside such as Kleenex, lip balm, hand sanitiz-er, playing cards and manicure sets. She also has treat bags for cats and dogs.

The money she earns will go to the Ramona Relay for Life cancer walk, to be held April 11 and 12 at Wilson Field, 720 ninth St.

“I started raising money at age six,” she says. “We do the relay every year.”

Brooke attends Canyon View elementary School in Poway and was inspired to raise money because her grandfather had cancer. She says when a cure is found for cancer, she will start raising money for diabetes.

“I want to fight for both,” she says.

Her sewing teacher inspired her to sew bags. She started by sewing large bags, and it took five days to complete the task.

“The small bags are much easier,” she says.

Brooke accepts donations for

the bags and gives it to Relay for Life.

“It’s whatever they want to pay,” she says. “I have made $445 and donated it all to Relay for Life.”

The bags are sold on her mom’s Facebook page under “Gina Helms-Sullivan.” She meets up with buyers at Starbucks and at school. She has sold bags at bake sales and brought some to sell at Pamo Valley Winery.

In addition, Brooke has a candy machine business, with machines placed in Ramona, Poway and mira mesa business-es, such as Kmart and Denny’s. The candy machines contain m&m’s, Skittles, mike and Ike and sour candies. Customers pay 25 cents for the candy. Brooke is saving the money from this business for college.

“It’s been absolutely fun,” Brooke says. “Sometimes I say it’s ‘rad.’” n

• Teach kids to respect a pet’s “safe spot,” a place they can retreat to if needed.

• Be sure kids and pets know the rules for each game, such as when the pet receives a treat or toy if it behaves correctly. This prevents kids from being jumped on and teaches pets that they can’t get what they want simply by being physical. If the pet won’t sit, then adults and kids should walk away without giving the pet its treat or toy.

New pets can quickly become an irreplaceable member of the household. But parents should still take certain precautions to protect kids and pets alike.

Chicken Paella with French Green BeansHands-on: 30 minutes • Total: 60 minutes • Servings: 6 (1 2/3 cups each)

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add chicken, salt and pepper. Cook 7–9 minutes or until golden brown on all sides. Transfer to plate.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. no one comes to the Father except through me.”

He doesn’t leave any wiggle room there, does he? If Jesus had merely claimed to be “one way, truth and life,” among many other ways, truths and lives, that would have made a lot of people much happier. If he had merely claimed that we could come to the Father through him, but not just through him alone, many would have no problem with that.

But that is simply not what Jesus said.

We live in an age of relativism and pluralism. In other words, we like to believe that every-one’s opinions and beliefs are

just as valid and true as the next person’s, even if they blatantly contradict each other. We also like to believe that all roads lead to the same place (heaven).

But not Jesus. His words cut directly against the grain of our relativistic and pluralistic age. And many people — even some Christians — find this to be offensive. The exclusivity of the claims of Christ is a stumbling block to many.

But why is that? Why do we suppose that all roads lead to the same place? You would never dream of trying to apply that logic to driving in your car. If someone asked you for directions to Julian, you wouldn’t tell them, “Just drive whichever way you want, and you will get

there eventually.” That’s a good way to get someone lost. If that is true in lesser things like driving, how is it that we can so blindly think such logic rightly applies to ultimate things, like getting right with God?

Being offended by the exclusive claims of Jesus Christ is a lot like a man who is lost at sea, refusing a life preserver that is thrown to him because he doesn’t like the color of it or because he’d really prefer a nicer lifeboat. What should really amaze us is not the exclusivity of the claims of Christ to be the way to the Father, but the very fact that God has made a way at all.

We should hear Jesus’ words in John 14:6 as the greatest news any person could ever hope to hear — that God has provided the Way for sinners to be made right with a holy God! n

‘Pool master’ Performs makeover magic in ramona Backyard

When the April 10 episode of “The Pool master” airs, viewers will get an inside peek at the makeover of a Ramona backyard, courtesy of world-famous pool designer Anthony Archer-Wills.

The designer trans-formed Andy and Heather Chandler’s four acres of land into a “staycation” sanctuary. Archer-Wills created a backyard that reflects the intricate beauty of a Japanese gar-den, with delicate water-falls and streams, and a rock outcrop that also serves as a diving board.

“The Pool master” airs at 9 p.m. on the Animal Planet network. n

Tour is Worth the TripBy Johnny McDonald ~ the journal

Artistry is the expression of freedom, where the gifted apply life to a canvas,

mold with their hands and even add some humor.

Visitors can meet these exceptional people in the Ramona Chamber of Commerce-supported Ramona open Studios Tour, April 11 and 12.

Tickets are $10 per person and include a full-color bro-chure with a map. Proceeds benefit the Chamber’s community projects.

This showcase of local talent has become a highly anticipated and well-attended art event, as Ramona artists open their studios to visitors.

Twenty-one artists will be available in 14 studios, along main Street, around town and in San Diego Country estates.

Artwork will include paint-ings, photographs, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, glass and wood. If you’ve ever wondered what an artist’s studio looks like, now is your opportunity to see for yourself.

Coordinator Judy nachazel, who started the annual tours 13 years ago, said she is always impressed with the many awards and accolades these art-ists have received.

Visitors will have a chance to talk with the artists and gallery owners. Artists send out invita-tions to buyers, as well. There are a lot of repeats, because people add their names to mailing lists.

“It gives the artist the opportunity for exposure and

people a chance to find out about them,” nachazel said.

“Some display their work every year, others might be off and on. We have six new art-ists this year. Several of these people are teachers.”

nachazel indicated there may be a number of artists that people are not aware of.

Some, like Kitty Cantrell, make a living with their art.

“She is noted for her wildlife sculpture,” nachazel said.

“Another, Caroline Boydston, painted a cat so well, it was almost like a photograph.”

Boydston was born in Bern, Switzerland. Her family came to the united States when she was very young. She has had a lifelong passion for horses and all animals, especially native California wildlife.

Hazel Lyne moved to the united States from england 16 years ago and soon began woodworking. She started turn-ing unusual items and incorpo-rating pine needles along with different woods.

Jim Berger creates wooden vessels on a lathe and embel-lishes them with carvings and inlaid stone images. Photographs of his work have been published in two national woodworking magazines.

Lark Burkhart has been an active book artist for 14 years. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions in California, oregon, Washington, new York and Hawaii.

Fused glass, jewelry and wire work is Lyn Feudner’s specialty, while Linda Kelly works in acrylic, watercolor, sculpting and mixed-media collage on recycled, reclaimed materials.

Dave Lambert’s work consists mainly of wheel-thrown pottery — stoneware, porcelain and raku pieces that can be used daily.

Johnathan martinez consid-ers his paintings a celebration of color and focuses his themes around family and love. His pieces are painted without faces to allow viewers to project themselves into the paintings and reminisce.

nancy Wiley’s passion is jewelry making, especially working with wire and using unique, semi-precious stones and custom-made diachronic glass and hand-painted ceramic tiles.

With pastels and colored pencils, Lori Sutherland is a local, award-winning artist, known for her colorful and detailed pieces.

Also featured on the tour will be nancy Berger, Donna Davis, Isabella Ketenjian, Jolinda marshall, Jerry meloche, Irma Pina-Garner, nora Read, Dennis Schlentz, Dave Vargo and Kathy Vargo.
