Sold a Single Family Home in 2015 for Approximately $425K in Ramona, CA.

Our home was listed with another realtor for one year and not one offer was presented. Within five days of listing with Deb, we were presented with three offers. Our home is now sold! Deb identified some minor improvements that were necessary and served as a project manager to make sure the improvements were completed in a timely manner. Her attention to every detail was amazing and her communication throughout our listing exceeded my expectations. I have worked with many realtors in multiple states and I have to say Deb is the best by far! I would recommend her without reservation.

place May 14 to 17 in the Ramona outdoor Community Center’s Fred Grand Arena.

Ramona Rodeo production co- ordinator Kayla Duba — a former Ramona resident and 2005 Miss Rodeo California who lives in Texas with her husband, bullfighter Dusty Duba — anticipates that attendance will be even higher this year, largely due to the quality of contestants and the talent in the arena.

“We are excited to put on the best rodeo the community of Ramona has ever seen, to date,” said Duba. “our caliber of contestants, and also the sponsors within the community that support the event, make it all come together. The reason why we have such a great rodeo is because we have the community behind us.”

Ramona Rodeo Queen Brittney Phillips will lead the way, as visiting rodeo royalty from far and wide make a grand entrance into the arena on horseback.

“We’re proud to represent our rodeo committees and various rodeos around the state,” she said.

They will be recognized during a Queens’ Run and assist in carrying the sponsor flags. In addition, they often help move cattle out of the arena after timed events.

Rodeo personnel will include announcer Andy Stewart, who has been nominated multiple times as the PRCA Top Five Announcer of the Year. He has served as the announcer for hundreds of rodeos and events, including the American competition in Dallas and Cheyenne Frontier Days.

John Payne, aka the “one Arm Bandit,” is sure to delight audiences with his show, which has won the PRCA title of “Specialty Act of the Year” 12 times. And rodeo clown and barrel man Clint Selvester is sure to entertain.

Dusty Duba will bring his 18 years of rodeo experience to Ramona Rodeo, using his cowboy life-saving skills to protect bull-riding contestants in the arena. He’s been able to make a full-time career out of doing what he loves. His passion for the sport of rodeo has taken him from coast to coast to fight bulls in more than 38 states. He twice worked the Great Lakes Circuit Finals and Prairie Circuit Finals, and was a part of the nine-city Rodeo europe Tour in Spain.

“Bullfighting takes someone who is quick on their feet and not afraid to take necessary risks,” said Kayla Duba. “With Dusty’s experience and talent, any cowboy knows they’re in good hands when he is in the arena.”

Friday night will be the 35th birthday celebration for Ramona Rodeo, and Mutton Bustin’ kids will be in the spotlight.

The Main Street Parade on Saturday is expected to be bigger and better than ever. The theme will be “Ramona — Land of The Free — Free To Be You And Me.” entries will include cars, floats, horses, bands, clowns, street machines, drill teams, antique roadsters, heavy equipment, clubs and teams, and everything else that represents Ramona. Duba credits Rodeo Director Joani Georgeson for her efforts to increase interest and participation in the parade since its reintroduction in 2010.

For Saturday night’s rodeo, activities will include a “Proud to be an American”

tribute, junior barrel racing, and a free dance following the rodeo.

The Sunday matinee performance will be at 4 p.m., moved from 2:30 to offer relief from the sun and heat that is typical this time of year. Rodeo orga-nizers plan to recognize young people and youth organizations, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Future Farmers of America and 4-H.

“Ramona Rodeo wants to be clear about how much we support the youth organizations that do a lot of good in the community,” said Duba. “They work on an individual basis to bring everybody together.”

Producing an event such as a rodeo takes the collaboration and efforts of many individuals, Duba says. With these talented and dedicated people on board, the 35th Ramona Rodeo is sure to not only meet, but also exceed, all expectations!

Girls Night Out is a SuccessBy Jamie Tyrone

Soroptimist International of Ramona’s first-ever Girls night out was a sellout

success! The evening started with a

scrumptious dinner provided by Something Delicious and personal chef Kitty Brisendine, and was followed by a hilari-ous comedy act performed by Cindy Burns and Vicki Barbolak, known as the “Fabulously Funny Femme Fatales.

Burns kept the audience laughing with lines such as, “I’m a 25-year-old trapped in the body of a 55-year-old. I used to be the kind of girl that said you can look but don’t touch. I’m at the age now where you can touch but don’t look!”

Barbolak presented herself as a “trailer trash housewife,” boasting that she finally closed escrow — at the DMV. Burns has appeared on “oprah” and “The Tonight Show,” and Barbolak was a member of “Jay

exciting as gift baskets were raffled off, followed by a live auction that included a private wine tasting with the owners of La Finquita Winery in the “cave” and a dinner to be cooked by Ramona’s finest firemen at the station house for six guests.

The raffle and auction would not have been a success if it Jamie tyrone, center, with comedians Cindy Burns and Vicki Barbolak.

Soccer is considered one of the most popular sports in the world, and it’s a growing attraction in Ramona.

Available for both kids and adults, the Ramona Soccer League (RSL) was established in 1979, with the purpose of bringing fun, fitness and friendship to the game’s participants.

Soccer matches are played outdoors at the Ramona Soccer Fields, located off Second Street and earlham, which are part of the Ramona Parks and Recreation Association. The league hosts a variety of events, including eight games for the

Adult Co-ed Soccer League. under the RSL banner, more than 50

players participated in the nine-week season, chasing down the ball in hopes of kicking it past the opposing team’s goalkeeper and scoring a point.

David Williams, RSL Vice President and the person who oversees the adult league, said, “Although there are some great players out here, it’s not super serious and it’s just for fun.”

He explains that there are no practices and no minimum skills required, but adult league participants must be at least 19 years of age.

Season Filled with Fun, Fitness and Friendship

Participants in this year’s spring adult Co-ed soccer league. Photos By Jamie Williams

MAY 7, 2015 RAMonA HoMe JouRnAL 9

“It’s really about physical fitness, fun and friendships. The best part is that many of the players are the parents we see on the sidelines when our kids are playing, so it really brings the soccer community together even closer.”

Community leader Dawn Perfect helped establish the adult league along with the Shults and Schmidt families.

“We all had kids raised in the league,” she said, adding how there wouldn’t be an opportunity for them to continue playing if they didn’t create an adult program.

People with little to no experience and those who have played competitive-ly in college are now playing. All have their own reasons and stories about why they are there.

For Williams, he grew up playing soccer. He got back into the game when his kids started playing and has been in charge of the adult league for three years.

“I did some coaching, then found out there was an adult league about four or five years ago,” he said. “I thought it would be fun, but I never expected it to be this much fun. I can’t tell you how much enjoyment I get out of it. Plus, it’s great to get some running in every week.”

Following a set of rules established by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), two 11-person teams play each game, with a minimum of seven players. Though the players primarily use their feet to dribble and

pass the ball, on occasion they can strike it with their head or torso. In the end, it’s the team with the most goals that wins the match.

Williams said one of the toughest parts of his job is to make sure the teams are even.

“That way, the season is competitive and fun for everyone. The last couple of years, we’ve done a draft where team captains pick their players, and that has worked out great. In fact, when we had two games left in our spring season, only two games separated the first- and last-place teams. on any given Sunday, any team can beat any other team, and that’s what makes it fun.”

Initially, they only had two teams, but today, they average about four.

“The teams were so even that we tied five of the eight games in the season.”

With the spring season just conclud-ing, players will take off for the summer and then regroup in the fall, with a sea-son opener scheduled for Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Participant cost is $85 and includes a uniform jersey, registration, insurance, field maintenance and referee fees.

“It’s a small price to pay for how much fun you have,” he said. “In the spring, we usually have eight games, and in the fall, we usually have 12.”

Williams encourages people to give it a try and experience fun, fitness and friendship at the soccer fields.

It was the first leg of a “Bishop or Bust” trip that will have its culmination Memorial Day weekend at the 46th Bishop Mule Days Celebration.

RUSD Trustees Move Ahead in Refinancing District Loan

Days, but raising funds for Hee Haw Place Donkey Rescue in Ramona, owned by Staci Greene, Baillie’s girlfriend.

She is assisted by osborne’s girlfriend, Tina Wright, media director for the rescue, and secretary Sandy Kinsman, who

is responsible for creating the flyers and webpage, and is “a continued support in all aspects of the rescue,” Greene says.

Greene and osborne were best friends at Ramona High School, where they both graduated in 1980. Today, he works in construction.

“Dave used to buck out horses for Casey Tibbs for a few years,” Green said. “They used to hang out at the Barnett Ranch.”

Baillie learned how to pack-out from former Ramona resi-dent George Peck, who lived on Barnett Ranch for many years and used to be a local butcher. Baillie, who also lived on the ranch in his 20s, now works for Ronald McDonald House charities as facilities manager of Camp for Good

Times. Taking to the trail is not a new experience for him, with a number of extensive rides in his background, including three from Mexico to Idyllwild on the Juan Bautista de Anza national Historic Trail.

So far, the two have raised several hundred dollars for the donkey rescue.

“Whatever we can make is great,” Greene says. “They’re taking time off with no pay and investing money into their own equipment so they can do this again.”

Those first eight days gave them an opportunity to test their equipment and the stamina of their animals — and themselves.

During that initial segment of the trip, one packhorse, a mustang, got a little sore, Greene says.

“They swapped out the horse, and a mule went with them the rest of the week.”

Greene closely followed the men’s progress of between 12 and 15 miles per day with the help of a GPS satellite locator, and planned hay drops along the way. The biggest problem this year, she says, is the lack of potable water. on the edge of Julian, instead of going down Banner Grade, Greene moved the group to the backside of Ranchita, because there was no water for 52 miles, and no food.

“It’s frightening how the drought is affecting Southern California. So many dying trees and no grass for cattle that have grazed in valleys for years. We spoke to locals at Grumpy Bear’s in Kennedy Meadows (in Inyokern). It’s the first time ever no cows will be moved up

this year.”over the Laguna Mountains

and down into Warner Springs and Anza, they got all the bugs worked out and then suspend-ed their trek until the time was right to head out again.

The last weekend of April brought a new start to their journey, but it also brought snow to higher elevations. So osborne and Baillie took a little break. They laid up before the snow pack, rode around and explored the trail, Greene said.

The most recent communica-tion she received from them on April 30 was a report that they had bathed and washed their clothes in the Kern River, and were back on the road, with a 30 percent chance of snow ahead of them.

“We don’t really know exactly where they will stop and rest,” she says, but it’s a necessity to take a break every two or three days to let the horses graze and recoup. “Anytime after noon, they stop wherever they find good graze and water.”

They have miles to go before they step into Bishop. About a week before they arrive, one of the horses will be swapped for a mule to ride in the Mule Days Parade and grand entrance.

Hee Haw Place Donkey Rescue will also be represented in the parade, with a mule, donkey and rescue horses. The rescue is also set to participate in the Ramona Rodeo Main Street Parade next week.

While at Mule Days, Baillie and osborne plan to compete in the non-pro diamond hitch competition, where entrants display their skill of securing

gear onto a base, such as a pack saddle frame.

odds are, they’ll do well, considering all their experience on the trail.

Follow their journey on Facebook at “Hee Haw Place Donkey Rescue” and visit www.heehawplacedonkey rescue.org. n

Trustees for Ramona unified School District approved a plan to engage in a financial arrangement to lower a long-term loan that could save the district between $5 million and $8 million over the next several years.

The loan dates back to 2004, and was refinanced in 2007. It is scheduled to be paid off in 2032, with a final payment due of approximately $3.5 million. It is referred to as “Certificates of Participation,” or CoP. Interest rates are now at an historic low, according to a report presented to the trustees.

The loan was initiated in

2004 to pay for the construc-tion of two new schools and improvements at two other sites. It was matched by funds from the state.

Local financial advisor Patrick Meskell was on hand at the April 16 board meeting to answer questions from the trustees. A payment schedule will be arranged once final approval is received from the rating agencies and bond underwriters.

In other action, the board approved an initial contract proposal between the district and the California School employees Association (CSeA). It also approved setting a public

hearing for a successor agreement with CSeA to hear input on the contract.

Staff from Barnett elementary School presented a PowerPoint presentation on the “Visible Learning” program in kindergarten through sixth grades. Principal Linda Marthis and teachers Dallas Meadows and September Tamburrino praised the success of the program with their students in standards-based writing techniques.

The next regularly sched-uled board meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m., May 14, at the Wilson Administration Center, 720 Ninth St. n

• Avoid “unhealthy” habits. Many of us are guilty of unhealthy habits, such as eating too much or failing to address stress. Taken together, these bad habits can harm the quality of our lives. As an investor, you can also fall into some bad habits. To name just a couple, you could waste time and effort by chasing after “hot” investments, which may already be cooling off by the time you hear about them, or you could decide to take a “time out” from investing when the markets are turbulent. Another bad habit: Investing either too aggressively or too conservatively for your goals and risk tolerance. By avoiding these and other negative habits, you can help yourself stay on track toward your objectives.

It takes diligence and vigi-lance to stay physically fit and healthy. And these same attri-butes are just as important in keeping your investment strategy in good shape. n

not all investments move in the same direction at the same time, so if you own a mix of stocks, bonds, government securities and other vehicles, you can lessen the impact of volatility on your portfolio. In investing, as in all walks of life, balance and moderation are important.

• Don’t let investments get “lazy.” exercise is essential in staying fit and healthy. Yet, exercise can also be hard work, causing many of us to put it off to “another day.” Some of your investments may also not be working hard enough for you. To cite one possibility, you might own quite a few certificates of deposit (CDs). There’s nothing “wrong” with CDs, and they do offer a high degree of pres-ervation of principal, but they provide very little in the way of return, particularly in a low-interest-rate environment, such as we’ve had over the past few years. So, if you have a plethora of CDs, you might be depriv-ing yourself of the opportunity to own other investments that “work harder” by offering you the growth potential you’ll need to make progress toward your long-term goals.760-788-9558

How can You become a ‘Healthy’ Investor?

May is national Physical Fitness and Sports Month. This “month” is designed

to encourage people to follow a healthy, active lifestyle. You can take steps toward this goal, of course, but why not carry the

concept of improving health to other areas of your life — such as your investments?

Toward that end, consider these suggestions:

• Give your portfolio a regular “check-up.” To

maintain your fitness, it’s a good idea to visit a doctor for a check-up on a regular basis. And to help ensure the “health” of your port-folio, you may want to periodical-ly review it with the assistance of a financial professional — some-one who can point out gaps in your existing holdings or changes that may need to be made.

• Follow a balanced invest-ment “diet.” As you know, nutri-tion experts recommend that we adopt a balanced diet, drawing on all the major food groups. Too much of any one category — for example, an excess of meat or of dairy products — can lead to health concerns. An analo-gous situation exists when you invest — if you own too much of one particular asset class, such as aggressive growth stocks, you might expose yourself to an “unhealthy” degree of risk, because you could take a big hit during a market downturn. In a tradition dating back more than a century, flat track racing is widely considered the granddaddy of

motorcycle racing, and the longest running style of the sport.

Still today, riders of all ages compete on a nationwide scale in a time-honored race that requires a harmonious blend of speed and stasis, with bikes that can reach 80 to 100 mph on a track with no straightaways.

one of the very best flat track riders in the country — in his age group or any other — is 11-year-old Ramona resident Travis Petton IV. Though he may not have a million-dollar racing team behind him — yet — young Travis has had three generations of his family blaze their own trails of success on the flat track before him.

His father and his grand-father are quick to concede, however, that their name-sake is bound to make his own mark in the oldest motorcycle racing tradition on the planet.

Travis has been riding dirt bikes since the age of 3, first finding his passion by riding motocross-style on a 50cc bike, tearing up his father’s land

when you have that throttle pinned! But if he did take time to look back, more often than not, he

would see an entire field of racers eating

his dust. In 2014 alone, he won

17 out of 24 races in just one division (85cc 2-Stroke novice), taking the championship title in the 85, 250, and 450 classes. That’s right, this

average-looking boy can not only stand up an adult-

sized 450cc dirt bike, he jumps on it and hits the gas until he sees a checkered flag.

So “average,” he certainly is not. When he is not on the flat track

taking checkered flags, he loves to play soccer and baseball here in town, and is an avid runner. He wins most of those races, as well.

But his true love, without a doubt, is flat track motorcycle racing — and it shows in his results.

Recently, he competed in a 50-lap, 450cc bike race against riders of all ages, most of them grown men and experienced racers. Travis took fourth

here in Ramona. But with flat track blood running through his veins, he was skidding around Southern Californian dirt tracks by the age of 5, and took first place in the very first race he competed in that year.

Since then, he hasn’t looked back — mostly because you don’t have time to

in that event, earning a $140 prize along the way.

It’s a race most commonly run on a relatively short and circular dirt track, and flat track riders rely on a quick start and nerves of steel, as they crank the throttle as hard as it will go for the entire race. In an almost continuous hard left turn, riders must keep the inside leg down, with a foot constantly skimming the ground for balance and control, as the bike’s rear tire glides through the dirt.

“The start is one of the most

important things,” Travis says. “If you don’t get the start, and they are good and can hold their line, you either have to move them or find a way to get underneath them.”

With specialized smooth-tread tires, constantly re-geared transmissions, and highly tuned suspensions, just about the only thing not souped-up on these bikes is the brakes. Besides their helmets and typical pad-ding, the riders wear added neck braces and chest guards, as well as a custom metal skid-plate strapped to the sole of the boot on their inside foot.

Without this skid-plate, riders could catch the boot in a groove or bump on the dirt track, which would potentially break their leg or send them flying off their bike — or likely both.

Knowing when to put that foot down and when to raise it up can result in a one-tenth of a second swing each time, and those tenths add up.

This innate skill, Travis’ grandfather says, is a big part of what sets the young man apart from riders at all experience levels.

His aggressive racing style leads to incredibly sharp turns, which boost him ahead of the pack. And once he is in the lead, he simply does not relinquish it.

There is no lack of danger in flat track racing. In fact, when asked about memorable moments on the track, Travis brought up a crash he was involved in during his most recent race.

A downed rider forced him to make an evasive maneuver, which separated him from his bike. As Travis put it, “I felt like I was flying for about five seconds. But I almost landed on my feet.”

It’s in moments like these that you will see his father nervously pacing the bleachers, and his grandfather taking note of how to help the young racer correct it the next time it happens.

Much of the charm of flat track racing events is that they typically take place in smaller, more intimate venues, in places such as Perris; Castle Rock, Wash.; or Springfield, Ill. on June 7, however, he will be honored at the Del Mar Racetrack, where he will accept awards for his championships in the Youth 85, 250 and 450 classes.

He will also have the opportunity to participate in exhibition races in Del Mar that weekend, during the opening days of the San Diego County Fair, giving him the chance to

showcase his incredible talents for tens of thousands of on- lookers and passers-by.

Another appealing aspect of the flat track racing community is that young riders come up through the ranks racing against many familiar faces, which leads to a humbling mix of friendly rivalries and mutual respect among competitors.

Though the Pettons are

rich in racing experience, the maintenance and upgrades on the bikes, along with travel expenses, can really add up for a family. Fortunately, Travis’ talent has not gone unno-ticed among his sponsors. Travis expressed his thanks to Dominus, Twin Air, Moto Master, TMV, Scar, JT Sprockets, Power Bars, Pirelli Tires, eric Webb Construction, Danny Perkins,

Fontana Radial, and Maurice who provides his tires, to name a few.

While Travis’ dad does not compete on the flat track any more, his grandfather still does to this day, and he passes along several decades’ worth of flat track experience to his young protégé.

For example, Grandpa Petton is quick to let Travis know, “If

you get lost, turn left.”To give you an idea of his

competitive nature, Travis has a saying of his own, “If you don’t win, don’t come in.”

Common thinking in the racing world is that flat track riders usually peak in their 30s.

If that’s the case, the Pettons are in for a heck of a ride. And they are going to need a much bigger trophy room for Travis. n

The Ramona High School Varsity Boys Tennis Team finished the season as undefeated league champions. Their 6-0 league record

was a collaborative effort from both their singles and doubles players.

Varsity Coach Rose Darrough credited freshman and no. 1 seed Brandon Ruland for having never dropped a set during any league matches.

“The team showed great improvement through-out the season,” she said, applauding parent volunteers for helping transport the players to a

total of 16 scrimmages and league matches.

Among their oppo-nents were Fallbrook, orange Glen and Valley Center. In the coming weeks, the team will compete in a league tournament, and from there, CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) championships. n

Mobile Pantry to VisitRamona Food and Clothes

Closet’s (RFCC) monthly Mobile Pantry free food distribution will be held May 21 at 9 a.m.

People 18 and older may bring their own bags to the parking lot behind the store, at 773 Main St., where each family may receive between 20 and 25 pounds of fresh produce and staple items. Distribution will be open for about two hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers are needed starting at 8:15 a.m. Call RFCC at 760-789-4458.

A case manager intern from Feeding America San Diego

will be present to pre-screen for eligibility for the CalFresh program, assist with applica-tions, and answer questions about CalFresh, formerly known as food stamps. Applications made through Feeding America receive quick case-processing time and advocacy with the county. Call Feeding America at 858-863-6635.

Volunteers NeededVolunteers are needed to

help Ramona Food and Clothes Closet maintain the high level of support for local families that it has provided for more than 30 years.

“Volunteers are as valuable as cash donations, not just because of the knowledge and expertise that they bring to the organization, but because they are a way of measuring the level of community support RFCC receives from Ramona,” says Service Manager Vesna Curry.

Volunteers may help one time or on a regular basis. After fulfilling 25 hours of service, they will receive a 20 percent discount on store merchandise.

Applications are available at 773 Main St. and online at www.foodandclothescloset.org. Call 760-789-4458. n

24-Hour RHS Art-a-Thon Sets on a Starry NightBy Maisey Banaga

Twenty-four hours of non-stop art — no sleeping allowed — is

every artist’s dream. When the Visual and

Performing Arts department at Ramona High School (RHS) hosted its first-ever Art-a-Thon on March 20 and 21, it gave students 24 hours to be cre-ative through the different media of art. It was a way for teens to express themselves visually through their artwork.

“It lets me escape the world,” said sophomore artist Samanada Ceballos. When people need to escape from the real world, art is a one-way ticket.

During these 24 hours, students come to make beauti-ful art. The event kicked off at 6 p.m., with several artists bringing and setting up their supplies to begin the creative process. By 6 p.m. the next day, only two people — freshman Conner Hane and sophomore Maisey Banaga — had stayed the full 24 hours, creating

paintings, ink drawings and pencil sketches.

Local artists Karen James, Liz Boggeln, Helen Wilson and Kathi Rothe came by to con-tribute their own pieces of art made at the Art-a-Thon.

on the second day, senior erik Meza completed a street art masterpiece, which was a banner created for the event. It was made with the help of sophomore Phoenix Blair and freshmen Connor Hane and Kendra Pettit. After three hours of painting, the banner was finished.

“I love doing street art,” Meza said. “It’s a fun, creative thing I

can do during my free time.” As the event came to a close,

the sleepy participants finished their final pieces of artwork and parted ways. But they will remember the experience for a lifetime.

“I hope the Art-a-Thon will help artists in the community, and that next year we have

sophomore Karla Chairez and her cousin Jesus alberto nuñez work on individual pieces while having fun at the first-ever event.

sophomores faith Knott and Phoenix Blair get creative and decide to finger-paint an amaz-ing piece.

even more participants,” said RHS art teacher Liz Schaude.

Sophomore Allison Bowling added, “I can’t wait for the next Art-a-Thon.”

So next year, who else will join the fun? n

Unicorn Books to Host Book Signingunicorn Books and Gifts

will host a discussion and book signing May 9 with Greg o’Brien, who will present his book, “on Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s,” winner of the Beverly Hills International Book Award.

The author was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2009, at the age of 59. He was also a caregiver for his mother, who passed away with Alzheimer’s.

Acting on long-term memo-ry and skill, coupled with well-developed journalistic grit, o’Brien decided to tackle his disease and imminent decline

by writing frankly about this journey, which he likens to a trip to Pluto.

The veteran journalist talks about what it is like to slowly lose your mind, and to see slices of your very identity slipping away, piece by piece.

“While I have the facility to do so, I want to communicate to others, to those who will face this demon someday and those who love them, that with the proper medical direc-tion, life strategies, faith and humor, one can prevail.”

The book signing will be held at 3 p.m. at 738 Main St. n

DANGER! – Rattlesnakes!

www.adobeah.com

Not only are rattlesnakes a danger to people, they are also a danger to our pets. Ramona’s rural areas provide a haven for rattlesnakes, and as the weather gets warmer, many of our pets will be in danger of being bitten.

The first sign of a bite is usually swelling and pain in the bitten area, even though wounds may not be visible. Dogs are most often bitten on the muzzle or a rear leg, while cats are often bitten on the front leg. Snakebites are a true emergency and you should seek immediate veterinary care for your pet if you suspect it has been bitten. At the time of their examination, the veterinarian will evaluate your pet and go over treatment recommendations which may include fluid therapy, antibiotics, pain management, and Antivenin.Adobe Animal Hospital offers rattlesnake vaccination for dogs that are at high risk for being bitten. For more information on this service, please call us and schedule an appointment with one of our doctors today.

old Town Sidewalk Sale was ‘fabulous!’Last month’s old Town

Ramona Meet the Merchant Day and Sidewalk Sale was

a success, in spite of wind and a few scattered showers.

“It was fabulous!” said Sally Hilton, co-owner of Isis Fuller Figure Fashion on Main Street, who added that customers continued to come in throughout the weekend.

“We are constantly over-whelmed by how supportive our local community is and how responsible they are about shopping locally. Ramona always shows up for you, they really do.” n
