• Typical mindset: ‘by the poor’ needs to target high-value markets for income
– Exporting best nutrients from communities and reducing diet diversity?
– Targeting low-value market ‘for the poor’ reduces poverty reduction benefits?
• New strategies needed that intentionally
– Smartly exploit segmented markets – Re-design for profitable targeting of the poor: e.g.
‘samaki kidogo’
• Need to synthesize available evidence and generate more
