Attendance/Late
Arrivals
Dear Parents/Carers
We have had a really busy week
in school, Year 5 have been on
two school trips and represent-
ed the school in a very
‘responsible’ manner. Year 4
had a great day at the CLC last
Friday, and Family Learning
started this week, thank you to
Mrs Glossop for arranging this
event and for parents and chil-
dren who have taken part.
You will hopefully all have now
received a copy of the HMI
letter following our recent
visit and a covering letter from
Mrs Ratcliffe our Chair of
Governors. Please take the
time to read this, and any
questions or concerns you
may have can be raised at the
The Attendance panel will meet on Tuesday 23rd January, you will have been invited if your child’s attendance has fallen below 90% and we feel this could be improved. During the Autumn term there were 17 children recorded as Persistent Absentees (children with less than 90% (attendance) and 171 Lates!Attendance
and Late arrivals is a key line of enquiry by Ofsted and can affect the schools judgement overall. To become a Good school Ofsted Inspectors judge the school using the following guidelines; Pupils
value their education. Few are ab-sent or persistently absent. No groups of pupils are disadvantaged by low attendance. The attendance of pupils who have previously had exceptionally high rates of absence
is showing a marked improvement.

We therefore, all have a part to play in moving the school forward. The number of chil-dren arriving late (after 9:00 am), has not improved since the last inspection, despite our best efforts in offering break-fast club, introducing a late gate and attending the late panel. It is your responsibility as a parent to ensure your child arrives on time each morning. Being late not only affects your child’s learning but also the other children in class.

the winner of St Joseph’s

her own learning, asking for
additional homework, asking
for help and putting in that
extra effort to ensure she is
being the best she can be.
Well done Evie, this is a re-

After School clubs started
this week, and have proved
very popular.
Due to the oversubscrip-
tion of most of the clubs, if
your child is allocated a
place and does not attend
for three weeks, then their
place will be given to
somebody else on the
waiting list and you will be
informed accordingly.

Parent Governor Vacancy
The governing body is the
strategic leader of the
school and has a vital role
to play in making sure that
every child receives the
best possible education.
This is reflected in the law,
which states that the pur-
pose of maintained school
governing bodies is to
‘conduct the school with a
view to promoting high
standards of educational
achievement.
If you have:
• An interest in chil-
dren’s futures
• A desire to make a
difference
• A willingness to ac-
cept responsibility
• An ability to work as a
team and ask ques-
tions, list and learn
Then please consider if this is
a role you could undertake

This week Year Five had two wonderful educational visits which they thoroughly enjoyed. Firstly, they visited St Pius where they had the oppor-tunity to receive coaching in athletic skills, which included running, jumping, throwing and small team games. The children demon-strated a great deal of posi-tive sportsmanship as well as great individual and team ef-fort. Later in the afternoon they were very privileged to watch the St Pius performing arts class' production, which was an amazing spectacular
of song, dance and dra-ma. Our second educational visit was a pilgrimage to St Marie's Catholic Cathedral in Sheffield.
Where the children ex-plored the history of the Cathedral, found-out about the day to day life of the building as well as doing learning tasks related to the liturgical year and the sacraments
Last Friday, Year 4 had a
technology filled day at the
City Learning Centre
(CLC). They started the
day learning about Compu-
tational Thinking and how
they could use this to make
code, which they then
wrote to manipulate a char-
acter in the app 'Box Is-
land'. After they had com-
pleted the twenty levels - in
record time - we moved on
to looking at robots and
how we could use code to
give instructions to a Super-
hero to make it move and
even talk! After a picnic
lunch we went on to use
Apple Macs with iMovie
software to create a short
film of our story mountain,
Mark the Mountain
Guide. 4. The children
were polite, enthusiastic and
represented our school bril-
liantly. Well done Year 4.

Who to see in
School
If you would like to
discuss anything about
your child then your
first port of call is the
class teacher, please
see them either first
thing in the morning or
after school and
arrange a convenient
time to meet or speak
via dojo.
Alternatively you can
speak with Mrs Curran
or Mrs Glossop our
pastoral team who
will be able to offer
support or advice. If
you then need to
speak with either Mrs
McLaughlin or Mrs
Briggs, then Mrs
Curran or the class
teacher can make an
appointment for you.
If you would like to
make an appointment
rather than speak with
the class teacher or
our pastoral care
team, please see Mrs
Firth on reception to
arrange an
appointment.

They were very lucky to hear the first playing of the organ after its six year restoration. The children were impecca-bly behaved. They demonstrated a great deal of reverence during their time there. A Big thank you goes to Anne Reyn-olds our shared chaplain who organised this.
