Complex Problem

If I could research anything in the world I would want to know a guaranteed way to prohibit divorce in modern American couples. This is a rapidly growing problem in the United States that seems to not be stopped by religion or family or culture, in fact it is almost easier because of religion, family and culture. This project

would require studies in psychology, sociology, behavioral sciences, law, religion and possibly history. Each of those areas of expertise could bring forth powerful evidence that might in fact save our society lots of pain and

money. Is there a formula for personalities, is it actually written in the stars, is there a learned style of communication or habits necessary for a couple to survive? What will happen to our country if we can not turn

this problem around? Is it even a problem? What role does technology play in keeping couples faithful? Is marriage actually a substantial union or is it just a religious gesture in a society that is walking away from

religion in general? Is divorce a business? All of theses are powerful and real questions I would love to answer. A truly impactful and amazing study that if it changed one persons life would be completely worth all of the

time an energy, although the hope would be to change the lives of families and intern the children and then all subsequent generations to come.

What Is Integrative Studies

The ability to logically combine every piece of information gleaned from a variety of experiences is the basis of integrative learning. Integrative studies give students the tools necessary to solve complex and dynamic problems with research, experience, scientific, and emotional data. The ability to problem solve, both in a university setting and a professional setting, at a level that incorporates and synthesizes multiple perspectives and divisions of research is not only an amazing asset but a rare and powerful skill. Working in groups, leading companies, dealing with customers and consumers requires a certain amount of skill but analyzing their wants and needs from their perspective gives integrative thinkers the upper hand in all situations.

I am excited for the opportunity to take what I am learning from my three disciplines and form not only the ability to look at a topic from three different perspectives but to learn to come from an open mind when addressing all problems. I am also excited to learn how to research from an unknown point of view. It is hard to ask questions about things you have no experience with because at times you don’t know what you don’t know, however a background in integrative studies will give me a platform to develop the questions that might unite projects, companies and people. Not only are the

A major asset to my professional career will be the ability to use the full breadth of my education. Incorporating all three of my focuses and utilizing the skill I have obtained in each can put me ahead in my current career and give me an advantage for the rest of my life. This paper analyzes the benefits of my interdisciplinary education and how I can use it to obtain all of my

Education

In choosing the Universities Studies program I had the opportunity to choose three areas of concentration. I choose English, Media Studies and Organizational Leadership. Originally I was a advertising major at Texas Tech University and although I dreamed of being a graphic designer the field did not fit my personality or the life I wanted to live. I am not an artist I am just creative and I love leading and influencing people and making a difference. I thought my creativity and desire to impact the world in a beautiful and creative capacity that the only degree for me was advertising. When I looked in the mirror and decided I was not happy and not an internship that sounded anything like fun I talked to my advisor and she recommended University Studies.

When choosing my concentrations I wanted something that was challenging and therefore I choose the college I struggled the most with was English and hence why one of my concentrations is English. I want to be a good writer; I want to creatively and fully express myself in a manor that connects with the world in a deeper way. With English being something a struggle with but necessary for a job I figured the safest way to go about it was to make it an area of concentration, because practice makes perfect. After choosing English I did not want all of my advertising credits

that I had worked hard on and paid a lot for to go to waste so one of my majors became Media Strategies. I am still very happy with my knowledge of how people interact and view the world. I have learned a lot about mass communication, leading people and what triggers peoples attention. I have also learned a lot about sales, presentation and have had a lot of opportunities for collaboration with my peers. Through the media strategies program I have also learned a lot about the power of motivation, emotion and action.

My last area of concentration is organizational leadership, although my advisor choose it for me I truly look forward to the opportunities this specific branch of my degree plan will bring. It is amazing how life works out. I wanted to graduate college and find a career where I could creatively influence and help people and in an amazing turn of event I now will have the skill necessary to complete that dream. My work in Media Strategies has honed my creative and presentation skills as well as helped me learn what influences teams and whole organizations. My organizational leadership studies have given me the

Personal Narrative

All Identities mature and change as their individual time and environment evolves. This essay examins my identity and my struggles with the continuity and discontitunity present during my short and amazing two decades. It also predicts and maps the results of the effect my foundations will have on the rest of my life. History

Like every average twenty-three old my life has been an amazing roller coster. I am the oldest of three and the product of a divorced family. I spent my entire childhood being bouced between two parents that loved their children so much they each racked up over $40,000.00 in debt over nine years sueing for custody. As a tenth grader I finally took my life into my own hands and decided to no longer be a victom of my parents, my school or the courts and found a guardian that would take me in and help me finish Highschool. I graduated with honors and received an $80,000.00 golf scholarship to Centenary College of Louisiana. After my freshman year I decided professional golf was not what I wanted to do and I moved back to Texas and started going to Texas Tech where I met a young man, fell madly in love and got engaged. Three years into our relationship he was arrested with a lot of very hard drugs that I had no idea he used or even knew anything about. I learned love is blind and betrayal is real. Set on continuing my education I poored myself into my work which at that time was as a bartender at a local sports bar in Lubbock texas. With in 6 months I was the general manager and with in another year I was the GM for 4 restraunts/bars and thought my life was complete. I worked so hard I started failing in my studies, pushed away my closest friends and gained 100 pounds. This went on for about a year until one night a young lady named Rachel Townsley sat at my bar and ordered a beer. We struck up a conversation and got along great, she asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and I told her I was getting a degree in advertising from Texas Tech and I was going to open up my own chain of clubs. She said she loved the idea and wondered If I wanted to pick up some extra cash helping her with advertising for her real estate team. I said sure and from that moment on my life has changed. I realized I was an incredibly smart person that was waisting my life get drunk with customers every night instead of making a difference. With in two months I quite the bar industry entirely, got my real estate license and worked my way up to the top of Rachel’s

Life’s Tragectory My future used to scare me.

Questions like “What are you going to do after you graduate?” and “When are you going to settle down and get married?” were not only frightening and intimidating but frustrating and imposible to answer. I have recently started the most amazing career, that I am highly successful at in Real Estate. Although this was never a career option for me because it is not a degreed profesion, most agents have degrees and the the job itself is challenging and inspiring. I now have the opportunity to not only create a main source of amazing income but I also have the opportunity to invest and create mulitiple secondary streams of income and help others do the same. Not only am I setting up my foundations for the rest of my life I can help others develop a steady retirement and investment pool. I have the unique opportunity to change the way people look at real estate sales. Every individual on my team makes a salary that they choose at the beginning of the year, so there is no pressure, clients are not treated like numbers and my team and I both grow. Once a member has picked a salary we figure out how many transactions after taxes and bills and team expenses it would take to reach that number. When we have the amount of transactions we simply time block accordingy, If you need three apointments a week then you need to call 130 people which means you need to talk to around 30 people a day which will take about three hours and that is your first job every morning. It’s a simple system with guaranteed results, its just funny how many realtors don’t treat real estate like a job. With my systems in place all I need to do is find talented people with a decent work ethic. I can

expand into three market centers by the time I am 30 and own 10 rental properties I can retire and do whatever I want. I choose to do the University Studies program because it makes since, I can study organizational leadership which will help me build and establish my teams as well as advertising which is my first love and then English because its foundational to everything I do. My degree program is perfect and full of classes that interest me and keep me focused in school. My career is such a huge distraction right now so it is important that my whole team is behind me, supporting me and keeping me focused. The program keeps classes relevant which I can take back to my team giving them incentives to keep me going through my studies.

Connection In the six years of management

experience that I now collectively have, I have had the opportunity to hire and fire a lot of people. In holding interview and evaluating character and work ethic I have come to realize that by understanding and overcoming my “victimhood” mentality I have wisdom, experience and tallents above my age. I would not trade any of my childhood hardships for the world. Not only have they tought me how to communicate and relate to people in all kinds of circumstances but they have provided me with the ability and knowledge to overcome any circumstance. This foundation, and experience has allowed me to kick off an amazing team and provide opportunities and services to amazing people in my community. Going from the bar, where there was a ceiling of achievement, to an industry where I can make as much and grow as big as I can work and learn has given me the childlike ability of being able to dream for

Course ReflectionThrough out this course I have learned the importance of solving every problem through the eyes of an interdisciplinary. Being interdisciplinary is the ability to use multiple perspectives, resources and established research to solve new complex problems in the fullest most successful manor. Conducting the breadth of research necessary to form an interdisciplinary solution requires patience, dedication and hard work. This course has given me the necessary tools and resources to make decisions and compile adequate research for real world problems.
