R AYS OF MERCIFUL L OVE TheDivineMercy.org/eadm Mercy is love that seeks to lessen the misery of others” — Bryan Thatcher, MD Eucharistic Apostles of The Divine Mercy Newsletter Fall/Winter 2016 E ucharistic Apostles of The Divine Mercy (EADM) recently shipped two containers of medical supplies, clothing, and religious items. The first safely arrived in August in Manila, capital city of the Philippines, and supplies were distributed to the poor and to indigent hospitals through the Good Samaritan Foundation. Photos of the distribution should be available in the Spring 2017 newsletter. A second container was loaded in September and is to arrive in Odessa, Ukraine, in early December. It will then be trucked to Gorodyk, where Fr. Viktor Lutkovskiy, MIC, will oversee distribution. The container to Ukraine was unique because it had a lot of physical therapy equipment, as well as wheelchairs for the severely handicapped. We sent 105 boxes of supplies loaded with crutches, walkers, portable toilets, and other medical equipment. The container also contained clothing and even some hospital furniture. Additionally, we sent religious items such as rosaries, beautiful artwork, and some religious statues. It was a container filled with love, and I am so happy that we were able to resume shipments to Ukraine and to help the Marians assist the needy there. Years ago I visited Ukraine and toured a hospital. I vividly remember seeing antiquated Russian hospital equipment that belonged in a museum or in the trash heap. I remember like it was yesterday, the moment that I saw an incubator that looked like something from a hundred years ago. That image will be etched in my brain forever. The container contents were worth at least $150,000 and all items were donated. The cost of shipping, plus trucking it to Fr. Viktor from the port, was $5,000. All in all, it’s a cost- effective way to send supplies to the poor. We loaded on a Friday, and on Monday I was out picking up donations for the next container. We will continue ship- ments there for as long as funds are available. A special thanks to our benefactors as well as to all the volunteers who helped me load all the items in just under an hour. Page 2: RAYS OF MERCIFUL LOVE · 2014. 5. 12. · Year of Mercy, we have taken up a new mission: to double our efforts to spread the message of Divine Mercy and devotion to Mary Immaculate,

We began on June 6, 1998, and have been promoting the messageof Divine Mercy and the love that Jesus and Our Lady have for useverywhere we can. Siaosi and Marsha Talitimu have been instrumen-tal in spreading the message and have put on many conferences overthe years. They are teaming up with Dr. Bryan Thatcher in Rapid City,South Dakota, on Nov. 20, as we close out the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

One project that we have worked on in the last few years is dis-tributing Divine Mercy Images to various churches. Our best guess isthat we have given images to the majority of churches in the Denverarea. The most memorable such donation took place at the MotherFrances Cabrini Shrine. On that day, we had a big celebration with aprocession of the image, and it was a most beautiful event.

For Divine Mercy Sunday last year, we joined forces with theColorado Springs EADM group and had a wonderful day at HolyApostles Church. Siaosi sang some of his Divine Mercy songs, andPete Opetia led the Colorado Springs’ choir in a Spirit-filled songduring the Mass. This was followed by two talks from Dr. Thatcher on living the message of mercy, the Eucharist, and thesanctity of human life.

Members of the Divine Mercy Apostolate of Canada from Toronto.

We are a lay group, the Divine Mercy Apostolate of Canada —Eucharistic Apostles of The Divine Mercy (DMAC) whose commit-ment to the Divine Mercy mission began in 2009. To date, DMAC isunder the servant leadership of yours truly, Br. Nestor Buendia, workingtogether with members whose commitment has been acknowledgedthrough the Eucharistic Apostle of The Divine Mercy Certificate.

More than 30 devout family members volunteer their time, talent and resources to help bring souls to God through ourbimonthly cenacle meetings. We celebrate the Feast of DivineMercy, give Divine Mercy presentations, visit and offer prayers inhomes, do community outreach, and pray the Rosary and theDivine Mercy Chaplet.

Rejoicing with the Church celebration of the extraordinary JubileeYear of Mercy, we have taken up a new mission: to double our effortsto spread the message of Divine Mercy and devotion to MaryImmaculate, Mother of Mercy. In the end, our vision is to see a mul-titude of souls coming to the door of God’s mercy.

While we hope to keep our work within our humble midst, wehope to receive the diocesan apostolic blessing of the bishop of theDiocese of Hamilton, so that we can continue with a stronger zeal, the mission of spreading the message of Divine Mercy.

Our works of mercy include a strong prayer life and formationinvolving Mass, living a sacramental life, daily prayer, and formationthrough the cenacle. We hope to educate the faithful through our sem-inars, celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday, and celebration in Octoberof the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. We have an outreach tothe sick and dying, as well as visitation with prayer to families in need.In addition, we have an outreach for children in need, and membersserve their individual parishes in a variety of ways.

We had our Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, July 19. Our grouphas been meeting once a month in our home for the past five years. Our Induction Ceremony was officiated by Deacon Jim Meyer fromHoly Family Catholic Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

“We enjoy the faith sharing, and the discussions are lively,” Debrasaid. “One lesson I remember particularly was the quote from St.Faustina’s Diary, entry 992. It is so easy to get discouraged at times, but she said it so beautifully: ‘I am going through life amidst rain-bows and storms, but with my head held high with pride, for I am aroyal child. I feel that the blood of Jesus is circulating in my veins, and I have put my trust in the great mercy of the Lord.’”

Saint Matthew Parish in Charlotte, North Carolina, read about ourDivine Mercy Cenacle in the Spring 2016 issue of this newsletter andour need for rosaries and prayercards. The parish sent us 400 rosariesand 400 Divine Mercy prayercards. We distributed the rosaries to allthe cenacles in our Diocese of Keetmanshoop and the Vicariate ofRundu. We used some of the rosaries during our Divine MercySpiritual Weekend for the Youth in our Diocese, held in Bethanie onJuly 1-3.

We are thankful to Msgr. John J. McSweeney, pastor at the St.Matthew Catholic Church and the entire congregation, especially OurLady's Rosary Makers Guild, for their generous material support. Wegreatly appreciate the support as we try to spread the Divine Mercymessage across Namibia.

WANT TO START A CENACLE?

I fell in love with Jesus in 2008. I learned all about themessage of Divine Mercy using EADM’s CenacleFormation Manuals.

In 2009, our group of 15 cenacle members began to pre-pare to consecrate ourselves to Divine Mercy in St. AugustineParish in Hartford, Connecticut.

Since then, the blazing fire withinme has grown. I had a strong desireto help prepare souls for Christ andassist others to consecrate their livesas missionaries of love and as apos-tles of Divine Mercy.

In 2015, I became facilitator inthe formation for the first EADMgroup in Our Lady of the Rosaryin Ciales, Puerto Rico, under the guidance and helping hand of our spiritual director, Fr. JorgeBetancourt.

This led me to fall even deeper in love with Jesus and withthis apostolic mission of spreading the message in Hartfordand Ciales. My constant goal is to prepare and lead brothersand sisters to Christ though the cenacle program.

I carry the Lord’s merciful message when giving retreattalks, diocesan presentations, and presentations to differentCatholic groups. I love to guide souls to the merciful love ofour Lord. Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the Source thatfills my life with strength, peace, and true surrender.

Soon, the first Perpetual Adoration Chapel at Our Lady ofthe Rosary in Ciales will be established. The opportunity tohave more hours worshiping Jesus in the Blessed Sacramentfills me with great happiness.

The mission of EADM has transformed me in every aspectof my life. My only desire is that every soul comes to knowChrist and devotes his or her life to God, who is Love andMercy Itself! What a wonderful Divine Mercy mission we haveas Eucharistic Apostles.

Every time I meet with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, Hefills me with joy. I look forward to receiving Him in theEucharist. When praying in Adoration, I remain immobilebefore Him, waiting in longing to receive Him in His Bodyand Blood.

In love with Jesus, the Divine Mercy

W hat is your priority in life? What are your successes? Are you proudest of your mansion, your fancycar, your high-paying job, or the fact that you

and your spouse love God, spend time with your children, and you have a happy marriage? Where is your heart in all ofthis? Your actions must speak much louder than your words, and where your treasure is, there your heart will be as well.

Saint Faustina’s goal in life was to do only God’s will, andto be a reflection of His great mercy. Jesus told her, “May youconstantly unite yourself with Me through love, for this is thegoal of the life of your soul. This act is an act of the will.Know that a pure soul is humble” (Diary of Saint MariaFaustina Kowalska, 576).

She also had a desire to be a saint. She wrote, “O my Jesus, each of Your saints reflects one of Your virtues; I desire toreflect Your compassionate heart, full of mercy; I want to glo-rify it. Let Your mercy, O Jesus, be impressed upon my heartand soul like a seal, and this will be my badge in this and thefuture life. Glorifying Your mercy is the exclusive task of mylife” (Diary, 1242).

Saint Faustina teaches us of three important dispositionsthat we must have if we are to attain the goal of glorifying theLord with our lives.

To begin with, we need to have a fervent desire to becomea saint!

The second thing we need to have is deep trust in Jesus, for His mercy is greater than our greatest sins. Jesus told her,“The greatest sinners would achieve great sanctity, if onlythey would trust in My mercy” (Diary, 1784).

Lastly, we must understand we are not alone in our jour-ney toward sanctity. The Book of Hebrews tells us that we aresurrounded by “a great cloud of witnesses” (12:1) who assistus by their prayers and heavenly friendship.

Know that St. Faustina herself promised to come to ouraid. She wrote, “O doubting souls, I will draw aside for youthe veils of heaven to convince you of God’s goodness, sothat you will no longer continue to wound with your dis-trust the sweetest Heart of Jesus. God is Love and Mercy”(Diary, 281).

Love must be the glue that holds us together. I am speakingof love of God and neighbor, not love of money, materialism, and things of this world that rot and rust away. We must letthis love be central to our intentions and allow it to help usovercome our fear and anger. We must come to understandthat success is not measured in terms of how large a home weown, the value of the car we drive, or the number of cruiseswe take each year. Success is measured by how much love wehave in our hearts and the humility in our souls to hear anddo the will of God.

So today I ask you to reassess your interpretation of successand reflect on the following: Where is your treasure, andwhere is your heart?

Priorities andbeing a saint
