SAV Report - August 2013 Over the past 12 months the Sav has undergone a few minor changes. We are now featuring photos of dancers on the front cover of the Sav, as well as having introduced a section “Know your Committee” with photos of your VSDA representatives. Now you can recognise your VSDA committee members, to discuss with them any ideas or grievances you have, which they can bring to the monthly meetings. I hope you have noticed that since the June-July edition of the magazine the quality of the photos have dramatically improved, the cover photos as well as the photos in “photo gallery”. This is due to Tim Lowry showing me how it can be done and downloading a different system to get better results. Thank you Tim. During the year there have been a few mistakes and I apologise for everything that went wrong. I hope that you realise this is not done on purpose. If it could be rectified in the next edition I have done so. To my club contacts, please let me know immediately if there is something wrong or omitted. I am trying to make the Sav more interesting with some poems or stories and I hope you find them pleasant to read, although they don't have anything to do with square dancing. I also hope you find the word puzzles not too much of a challenge. It is a pleasure for me to get all the news reports in from the various clubs, the photos and advertisements, and to combine everything to give you an informative magazine. Mary Beerens SAV Editor

VSDA INC. -- AGM 17 AUGUST 2013 RETURNING OFFICERS REPORT.

In accordance with Rules 38 and 40 of the Victorian Square Dance Association Inc., dated August 2006, notification of a call for nominations was published in ‘Squares Around Victoria’ for the Executive and General Committee positions with a closing time/date of 5.00pm on 30 June 2013. Eighteen (18) applications covering Executive and Committee nominations were received by the closing date. These were checked with the Membership Officer to ensure validity and then a letter was sent, per e-mail, to the Secretary, dated 10 July 2013, by the Returning Officer to be tabled at a forthcoming VSDA meeting. This was subsequently followed up with another letter, sent by e-mail to the Secretary, dated 13 July 2013 and noted as REVISION 1. At this time the Returning Officer was made aware of a nomination withdrawal and a couple of non-complying applications (see below) On 11 July 2013 an e-mail was received by the Returning Officer from the Secretary stating that the nomination for Publicity Officer had been officially withdrawn on 10 July 2013. The following nominations were accepted for the Executive and general Committee positions for the year 2013 – 2014 at that time :-

It was noted in the applications that a member had nominated a candidate twice, once for the Youth Delegate position and secondly for a Committee position. Consequently the Returning Officer had to rule these as non-complying applications and a letter was sent to the candidates explaining the rules on this. Also a candidate had nominated for two positions on the one (1) form and so a letter was mailed informing the person of a non-complying application.

. The Executive nominations required a nomination for Vice President 2, Publicity Officer and Youth Delegate and it only remained for one (1) more Committee member to be elected from the floor of the AGM Meeting (refer above paragraph) held at the South Barwon Civic Centre, Belmont on 17 August 2013 to have a full committee of ten (10). At the AGM the following candidates were elected: Vice President 2: Ms.Carmel Sinclair. (Carmel no longer a committee candidate). Nominated by: Lyn Walker. Seconded by: * Publicity Officer: Mrs Diane Jameson. Nominated By: Mr. Graham Jameson. Seconded By: Mary Beerens. Youth Delegate: There were two (2) candidates for this position viz: Ms Laurina Collyer and Ms Charmaine Jameson. A ballot was taken and the following result ensued:- Ms. Laurina Collyer 40 votes, Ms. Charmaine Jameson 19 votes, Informal votes 1 Laurina Collyer duly elected as the Youth Delegate for 2013-2014. Votes were checked by the Scrutineers , Mr. P Venn and Mrs L.Collyer. The following persons were nominated for the vacant committee positions:- Ms. Charmaine Jameson was nominated by *………………. and seconded by Mr. Mal Parrington. As Ms Carmel Sinclair had successfully been elected as Vice President 2 this Committee vacancy was taken up by Greig Wight, nominated by Carmel Sinclair and seconded by Ken Wayne. Ms Barbara Treharne nominated for the position of State Editor for the national Square Dance Review .and was nominated by James Fellows and was seconded by S. Becker.
