Valedictorian: Hannah Roman College: Cornell University
Major: International Agriculture and Rural Development
Parents: Heather and David Roman
Advice for others: Always be confident in yourself and help others as much as you can. But
also...procrastination is bound to happen - own it (as long as you get it done).
What will you miss most about high school? I will miss seeing my friends everyday, and the
side-eyes we get from the teachers on lunch duty when we’re screaming with laughter in the cafeteria.
Who was your favorite teacher/class? My favorite class was SUPA English with Ms. Hoatland.
Although it was more challenging, the class was truly formative and changed both the way I write and
the way I feel. I will miss our long conversations and debates.
What do you think is the strength of the class of 2017? I believe the kindness and friendship the
class of 2017 shares is our greatest strength.
Salutatorian: Shannon O’Neil College: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Major: Chemistry
Parents: Janet and Patrick O’Neil
Advice for others: Be yourself and no matter what, never give up on your dreams.
What will you miss most about high school? I will miss the small, close-knit community that we have
where you can walk down the hallway in between classes and know the names of everyone who walks
by you.
Who was your favorite teacher/class? Ms. Houseknecht/Pre-Calculus and Calculus
What do you think is the strength of the class of 2017? The Class of 2017 is very strong
academically and we all support each other regardless of our differences.
Dear Graduates,
On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I would like to offer special congratulations to the Class of 2017! You have arrived
at the end of your SCCS journey. The road to graduation has its peaks and valleys and I hope you have enjoyed all the
experiences along the way. I hope you seized all the rich opportunities while attending SCCS, gave your best effort, and
set meaningful goals for the future. We watched you grow into the young adults you have become and could not be more
proud of all your accomplishments and contributions while at our school. You truly are a special group and one that will be
remembered for many years.
Class of 2017, you are prepared for the next phase in your life. Whether you are going to college, enlisting in the military,
or joining the workforce, we are all proud to call you SCCS graduates. Sophocles, one of the most influential writers of
Ancient Greece, once said that, “success is dependent on effort.” I hope you give your best effort on your chosen path of
study in the future. With 100% effort, anything is possible. Our best wishes on a prosperous future.
Mr. Carnicelli, Jr/Sr HS Principal
