Cromwell UK Interna-tional British Campus

signed a Memorandum of Under-

standing with the University of Ri-zal System represented by Presi-dent Marita R. Canapi last Novem-

ber 26, 2016 at Woldorf Astoria, Dubai United Arab Emirates. The MOU between these parties aimed

to fortify collaboration of the two universities that both agree to de-velop collaborative understanding

in the interest of educational coop-eration and in the spirit of making significant contributions to the in-ternational and intercultural educa-

tion of people.

A s a result of continuous encouragement of the Uni-versity to the faculty re-searchers in publishing

their outputs, two (2) research papers were published in journals, indexed by Web Science (ISI). The paper au-thored by Dr. Romeo Pati and Prof. Manolito R. Monje titled “Socio-

3rd Annual Environment Week Concludes

“Unifying Efforts to Avert Unlawful Trade in Wildlife” is the theme of the 3rd Annual Environ-ment Week Celebration conducted by the University of Rizal System through the Environmental Educa-tion and Biodiversity Research Center (EEBRC) as the imple-menting unit last November 14-18, 2016. Key officials, students, fac-ulty, staff members and diverse sectors of the society were pre-sent and had sig-nified their sup-port to the Uni-versity’s environ-mental advoca-cies and under-takings. This 5-day activity high-lighted exchange of information, quiz bee, literary contest and greening tasks that support URS environmental stewardship. Mrs. Josefina L. URS Participates in Various Trade Fairs and Exhibits

T o promote the institu-tion’s products, technolo-

gy use and innovation, URS joined the Tanay

Hane Agri-Trade Fair and the

STAARRDEC Fiesta& RSRDEH 2016. The Hane Agri-Trade Fair was organized by the local govern-

ment unit of Tanay as one of the highlights of the 6th Tanay Hane Festival last November 11- 13,

2016 at the Tanay Park, Tanay, Rizal while STAARRDEC Fies-ta was held at Bacoor Govern-

ment Center, Bacoor, Cavite on Nov 21 – 24, 2016 wherein URS Tanay booth was adjudged as the 3rd Best Provincial

Booth.

Products like cocoponics, native lechon, Embryo Cultured

Macapuno seedlings, fruits and vegetables were showcased dur-ing these events. Likewise, flyers,

brochures and pamphlets were also distributed to walk-in specta-tors and viewers in the exhibit.

Seminar-Workshop on Patent Drafting for the Academe, Researchers, and Inventors

T he seminar-

workshop

was a 3 day

activity

done last November 2-4, 2016

at the Audio Visual Education

Center (AVEC), University of

Rizal System, Morong, Rizal

Campus. The invited guest

speaker and lecturer was Engr

Emmanuel M. Mendoza from

the Intellectual Property Of-

fice of the Philippines

(IPOPHIL). There were 40

attendees of the activity

which includes 32 faculty

researchers from the 10 cam-

puses of the University and 8

RDEP staff who serves as the

Committee of the program.

The activity was formally

opened with a prayer by Prof.

Thelma Cruz. The welcome

message, introduction of

participants and guest speak-

er was done by Dr. Namerod

F. Mateo, Vice President for

Research Development, Ex-

tension, and Production. The

first day started with the over-

view of the Intellectual Prop-

erty Office and Intellectual

Property Rights. It was fol-

lowed by the discussion on

trademarks, copyrights and

related rights. In the afternoon

topics on patentability re-

quirements, patent granting

procedure, requirements for

registration of utility model

and industrial designs, and

basic patent search lecture and

hands-on were discussed by Engr

Mendoza.

The second lecture of Engr.

Mendoza covered introduction to

drafting of specification, claim

drafting of actual technology, claim

drafting and critiquing, introduction

to drafting of specification, and

claim drafting of actual technology.

The third day is the

continuation of drafting speci-

fication and claims on actual

technology. Engr Mendoza also fa-

cilitated the preliminary evaluation

of drafted specifications, claims,

drawings of technologies. The partic-

ipants were asked to write a draft of

their application papers for inven-

tion, utility models, and industrial

designs. Presentation / critiquing of

specification on actual technology

drafted by participants and research-

ers was done after the lunch break.

Engr Mendoza also introduced to the

participants the proper way of ac-

complishing the application forms

for invention, utility models, and in-

dustrial design. There were 14 utility

models, 6 industrial designs, 2 inven-

tions, and 2 trademarks that can be

filed at the IPOPHILS as an output

of the activity. The program ended

with the closing remarks delivered

by Dr. Allan E. Conde, the Campus

Director of URS Morong, Rizal.--

Extension Projects Presented in Various Fora

C ompleted extension papers were presented in various confer-

ences through oral and poster presentations. Eight (8) papers

were delivered during these conferences wherein 7 (seven) were presented at the

International level particularly in the 5th Biennial Convention and 1st International

Conference of Extension program Imple-menters held at CAFA theatre, University of

San Carlos, Cebu City while at the STAARRDEC FIESTA and RSRDEH

2016, one extension paper was present-ed. These presentations served as ave-

nues of disseminating the contributions of extension projects in improving the

welfare of the beneficiaries.

A total of 2,180 partici-pants broken down into 1126 males and 1052 females from the differ-

ent groups of the society, including members of public affiliates took part in lectures, trainings and work-

shops in various locations conducted by the office of Gender and Develop-ment (GAD Center) of the University from October to December of 2016. As the participants listened and partic-ipated, they were able to learn the basic information about mainstream-ing process and GAD related concepts

as well as increasing their knowledge and skills when it comes to Gender related prob-lems and perspectives.
