Shelter Care Plus Housing Voucher Program: Applicant must have a history of incarceration or be post-incarcerated for 90 days or less, and/or chronic homelessness with disabilities. * Disabilities include chronic substance abuse, severe mental illness, Veterans, individuals with HIV/AIDs and victims of domestic violence. Project Hope: offers transitional work programs, case management and job training for Newark residents who have been convicted of a violent crime or gang affiliated. Participants work for 8 weeks with the Department of Sanitation and receive case management every Friday which includes workshops to address communication skills, interview techniques, resume preparation and job training skills. Upon completion of their transitional job, each participant will enter one of three training programs— automotive, construction and CDL. Cost to participant: none Located on busy Broad Street, it is suggested to either walk or get dropped off to this location. There is on street parking available, but you will have to drive around in order to find a parking spot. Parking is available on several lots along Broad Street (fees vary per hour).

Located on the first floor of the facilities to the left once you walk in. The Newark Housing Authority conducts background checks on each member of the household. Emergency housing is no longer offered at this facility. Documents to bring to interview (as you near the top of waiting list):

Main service requested: Housing assistance – emergency, permanent, community corrections and transitional. Must be an adult who is 18 years or older to qualify. Computer Technology Training provides hands-on training. Teachers assist each individual to learn the skills to refurbish computers, build them from the parts up, train how to use/operate Windows 10 as well as various Apple products. Each participant in the program will have an evaluation filled out to document their progress.

Referrals to outside agencies to assist in addiction services and supportive services for mental health, medical and other therapeutic services.

This facility is located less than 15 minutes from the downtown Newark area by car. Make sure that if you are using a GPS system that you put “Urban Renewal Corp” within the search bar or specify the address. There is parking available in the large parking lot located by the entrance, when you walk in you will be on the first floor of Urban Renewal, there are offices located on the second floor to assist you with where you need to go. Also, post discharge follow-up, medical transportation and referrals and linkages for all HIV positive released individuals for the Aids Drug Distribution Program (ADDP). Other services requested: provides post-discharge planning services to eligible individuals recently released (up to 6 months) from the DOC. Case management, medical and social services and linkages to care are also available.

Specialized services Healthy Relationships: Ran by coordinator, Loretta Shelton, this project assists HIV positive clients with development of healthy lifestyle. Group meetings are held which include discussion of issues ranging from the decision to disclose HIV status to developing healthy eating habits. Resume development assistance, reemployment orientations, job matching based on credentials of resume, access to job fairs and assistance are also provided. Services: Men and women Other Services requested: vocational training, literacy and adult basic education If you are coming off of Freeway Drive West, make sure to stay in the right lane as not to miss the building. Parking is difficult unless you arrive when they open; it is recommended that you be dropped off. Parking can be found on side streets such as Beech Street (residential area). There is a line, but it moves quickly and you are able

Services: The goal is to prepare youth for entry into world of work through provision services and supports

o Assistance creating a personalized Individual Career and Education Plan (which sets future career goals and strategies for achievement).

o Workforce Fundaments Training and Career preparation to include, seminars, virtual/physical college tours, career fairs and career exposure seminars.

o Support identifying and preparing for new job opportunities. (Includes defining the steps to obtaining a job from the job search process to the interview).

o Create a resume packet from cover letter to thank you letter. o Information/assistance regarding free and low-cost training and education

programs o Counseling services, either in-person or by phone, to discuss progress

towards achieving educational and career goals and troubleshoot challenges. o Services such as financial planning, housing counseling, and legal advice. o Access to weekly FACE FORWARD workshops and special events on topics

such as how to discuss your juvenile record with employers, networking in the 21st century, budgeting, and credit repair.

o Stipends and incentives based on performance outcomes and personal benchmarks.

Located on a busy street, there are parking spots located directly out front of the building but you will have to drive around to find a parking spot with a meter. There is a parking lot located next to the building, which says, “Prudential Center” you are able to park there for a fee. Upon arrival at 7:30am, there was a line out the door waiting to gain entry, but it moves rather quickly once you are checked in. Notes:

Offender Aid & Restoration of Essex County

Depending on what services you will be receiving—Prison release ID (30 days), driver’s license, and/or social security card. You will be informed what you will need to bring. Open Monday through Friday 8:30 – 4:00pm Contact: Jennie Brown and Rodney Roberts Walk-in or appointment: Walk-ins, appointments are rarely needed Main service requested: Re-entry and outpatient rehabilitation services Services: Both men and women Other Services requested: Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and probation assistance. Help with Drug and Alcohol screenings, individual and group counseling, HIV education/Wellness group, family/couple therapy and groups, case managements. Limited referrals for housing, transportation and social services. Morning group sessions: M/W/F - 9:00am until 12:15pm Evening group sessions: M/T/W – 6:00pm until 9:00pm Weekend sessions: dependent upon clients’ needs but Saturday sessions are available if arranged.

Specialty program: PATCH program: created to help the children of offenders. Enrichment program for children with incarcerated or recently released offenders. Provides children with recreational and educational activities. Also, gives support to caregivers. Located on a one-way street, be careful not to miss it on your left hand side or you will have to circle around the block again. There was no difficulty finding parking—there is metered parking located on both sides of the street, the parking lots are not accessible to visitors of the facility, only employees. Notes:

Family Success Planning: Families sit down with a service worker to set out a strategy for achieving their goals – like finding a job or learning new ways to help their child with homework.
