1 - A distinctive design identityAt Eddy Merckx Cycles, we have a very distinctive design identity and there is always a technical reason behind this. Straight bladed forks are the market standard. But we only use bended forks. This bend means that we can offer higher compliance on the fork. Besides stiffness we want to offer compliance as well. The seat tube is always in a teardrop shape, so aerodynamic and optimised, and for the rear wheel clearance we offer a cut out - the so-called tendon - to keep the rear wheel in the right position. Our frame design

is very unique and recognizable; a tensioned top tube with a nice 'kink' in it, the curved fork and the tendon are design features that you will discover in all models of the collection which gives every Eddy Merckx race bike that typical look.

2 - Power under controlPower under control – this is what you feel when you ride our bikes. To achieve this, stiffness, stability and safety are the key. Eddy himself always talked about stability as the key focus to keep the bike under control and at the same time offering the greatest safety for the rider.

3 - Progressive evolution geometry As for optimal handling, the key is that you feel like you are sitting IN the bike rather than sitting ON the bike. How do we achieve this? We believe that every size of rider needs its own specific geometry.Comparing a small frame with a tall frame, the smaller rider sits more to the front whereas a taller rider sits more to the rear. That's why we adapt the seat tube angles as well as the chain stay length, to balance the weight and keep the rider in the centre of the bike. This is what we call Progressive evolution geometry.

4 - No compromises On the quality we make no compromises. That means that all our products, frames and forks are tested to the highest ISO standards. Be- sides that, we do our own tests with higher loads and longer lifecycles. We also test every frame, fork, the weight and the stiffness to a very small tolerance. On top of that we have developed a new tech-nology; the CT scan, basically an x-ray to look through and inside the frame. This is very use- ful, especially for carbon frames. We want to avoid any failures in the process of manufactu-ring. This has a very high cost in process time and equipment, but we are very proud we can offer a Strict Lifetime Warranty on the whole range of bikes.

2 EM525 geometries:

Whatever the terrain, whether it’s riding fast circuits around the lake, a nice long climb, or a tough ‘gran fondo’, you expect your bike to perform at the highest level in any of these conditions. This is also true for our Pro Riders. They want to have one bike they can use during the whole season. So that's why we offer the highest level combination of all these attributes on the EM525.

Performance & EnduranceMost of our customers who are riding top end bikes, don't have the appropriate fit. They were being fitted using a pro rider geometry and were therefore using multiple spacers to have their handlebars in the right position. This is an issue in terms of stiffness and safety in the event of material failure. In order to avoid this, we have developed two different geometries: one for pro riders, which we call 'Performance', and the other one, we call 'Endurance', which will fit most of our customers. In total, we have 7 frame sizes in each category, so 14 EM525 frame sizes to ensure that every kind of rider has the appropriate position with optimal stiffness and handling performance.

Aerodynamic shapes & maximum power transferWe simultaneously focused on the power transfer with asymmetric chain stays and low seat stays that offer higher stiffness on the power transfer. On one hand, we focused on the aerodynamic shapes; the fork, all down to the downtube, integrated aerodynamic seat tube, seat post, and the aerodynamic seat stays. On the other hand, we wanted to have power transfer that could be reached with huge cross sections on the bottom bracket, the downtube, and all down to the dropouts.

Optimal aerodynamic performanceThe SanRemo76 is a high-performance racing machine with a geometry that allows efficient aerodynamic positioning. The tubes also are designed to have an optimal aerodynamic performance.

As for aerodynamics, we offer an integrated seat post with aerodynamic shape, large range bracket and integrated seat post clamp.

The story behind the name

The Mourenx69 refers to Merckx’s victory during stage 7 in the Tour de France of 1969. During this heroic ride from Luchon to Mourenx, Merckx escaped for 140 kilometres on his own and arrived in Mourenx 8 minutes ahead of the pack. This was the inspiration for our endurance bike: the Mourenx69.

Disc brakesDisc brakes bring an additional level of comfort, control and safety for the endurance rider that he really will appreciate on his long rides.

Stability & complianceFor the endurance rider, the key point is stability and compliance. So we don't compromise on the stiffness of performance-oriented bikes but we do add additional compliance. Additional compliance on the fork and on the rear frame means you reduce fatigue and you can go for longer distances. And on top of that, with higher compliance, we increase traction. You want to be sure your tyre will stick to the ground. So this is what we understand by compliance. This means that you are safer, and if you want, you can go faster in the bends.

Specific componentsOn the component side we also use specific designs and measurements on all three touchpoints to suit a woman's posture: a specific ergonomically-shaped saddle and smaller, more narrow handle bars and shorter cranks.

Female geometryThis female bike uses the same technology and features as we have on the male bikes. The key difference is the specific geometry. The carbon Milano72 frame has a specific female geometry. This means that the seat tube angle, stack and reach are perfectly adapted to a woman's geometry.

The story behind the nameIn Montreal in 1974, Eddy Merckx won the first World Championship to be held in the Americas. That was his fourth rainbow jersey in 10 years. One newspaper com-mented: 'Eddy Merckx didn't discover America, Ame-rica discovered Eddy Merckx.'

Until the Giro d'Italia 1967, Eddy Merckx was known as a sprinter. However, during this Giro, Eddy won the moun-tain stage ending in the Blockhaus. With this victory, he confirmed his potential as a climber and tourstage rider. That's where the name Blockhaus67 comes from.

Specific tube shapes

Carbon fork

On both frames every tube has a particular shape to offer the greatest stiffness with the highest compliance. We have very specific shapes; tapered, asymmetric cross sections. That includes on all our asymmetric chainstays, giving the greatest stiffness. On the seat stay we use very thin cross sections with thin wall thickness to provide incredible compliance for an alloy frame.

We combine this superior alloy frame with the best possible carbon fork. We use carbon forks with a smooth tapered crown. We put the bearing right on the crown in order to have a very safe and light structure on the crown. This is a 360 gram carbon fork combined with an alloy frame of 1,150 grams, which is superior to any other carbon frame in this price range.

High end alloy frame

Double smooth welding

Instead of making a mediocre carbon frame, like most of our competitors in this price range, we have chosen to go for the best alloy frame that will outperform any carbon frame in this price range.

We are using 6069 alloy material which is 30% stronger than anything else out there. Using this stronger material, we can make lighter tubes. We start with a round triple-butted 6069 alloy tube, and shape it as necessary by press-forming, thus optimising any connecting tubes. This creates a more oval connection on the head tube, and in the opposite direction an oval connection on the bottom bracket. The second step is to connect those tubes with a double smooth weld. The first layer is some regular tig welding and the second welding is called smooth welding which creates a nicer and wider welding joint which also makes the product stiffer. Other brands also often use two rounds of tig welding but they will grind this area to give it a nice appearance. During this grinding process, they will basically damage the tubes and reduce the wall thickness with the high potential of material failure. We do double welding with a real smooth welding which makes the product nice looking and even stronger.

Nice featuresAll the cable routing is internal. We have some nice features where the light carbon structure is protected with impact-resistant material below the downtube, as well as behind the seat tube, where you have a lot of stone impact during a gravel ride. We offer an integrated chain catcher, a very stiff front/rear hanger and of course disc brakes with a thru axle (12 mm front and rear).

Versatile geometry

High compliance

Tyre clearance

The gravel category is basically positioned between road and cross. The geometry is also exactly in between. This means that this bike offers you a new type of riding, on any kind of ground, paved roads or gravel… This is a new adventure type of bike that you can use to extend your riding experience.

When you go on rough terrain, compliance is necessary to maintain both comfort and traction. Our Strasbourg71 carbon frame has a very light structure with a very high level of compliance. This is done with slim seat stays, a kink on the chain stay, and a specific lay-up on the seat stays.

We offer a high level of compliance on the tyre clearance; you want to ride with up to 40 mm tyres. On a gravel disc-brake bike, you can easily switch the wheels and if you want to go take a spin on the pavement, you use your road wheels and the next day, on the gravel section, you use your bigger tyres.

The story behind the name

In Eeklo, Eddy Merckx won a very unique cyclo-cross competition. It was a two-man race with the specialist Eric De Vlaeminck. Again this demonstrates Eddy Merckx’s multiple talents in any kind of racing and his character and determination to win any kind of competition in which he competes.

Higher bottom bracketWe use a European-style geometry with a high bottom bracket. This higher bottom bracket gives you more clearance to go over obstacles and allows you to start pedalling faster after each corner.

Performance orientatedAs a Belgian brand with a huge cyclo-cross heritage, we wanted to develop a very performance-orientated cyclo-cross machine. You have to accelerate after each bend and after each climb. So the ratio stiffness to weight was the focus here.

The story behind the nameFor Eddy Merckx, track-riding was always the ideal preparation for the sprint classics. He did a lot of competitions in the winter, and one of them was in Copenhagen in 1977, where he won the European Championship with his friend Patrick Sercu.

Hard core track racingThe carbon frame is almost twice as heavy as a regular road frame with plenty of material to keep up the stiffness. On the cross sections, we have huge sections on the bottom bracket, on the head tube in order to have very high stiffness for steering and transferring power. Equally, all these cross sections are optimised for an aerodynamic performance using teardrop shapes, giving the highest possible speed on the track. We also offer specific drop-outs with an adjustment range for the rear wheel and a high adjustment range on the seat post. This makes it a hard core racing machine on the track.

Stiffness & aerodynamics

Alloy training bike

Besides the specific track geometry, with a higher bottom bracket and a shorter chainstay with an adapted front crank, the key features of the Copenhagen77 are its stiffness and aerodynamics.

We offer an alloy Copenhagen77 with a high-end carbon aero fork. This bike has a more versatile geometry and is basically your training bike for the winter season.

Aerodynamic optimisationFitting is the key to going fast, as is the aerodynamic optimisation of the frame and the fork. All of the profiles have been optimised with teardrop sections throughout the frame, from the head tube, downtube, the integrated seat tube, to the integrated seat post. All the cable routings are smoothly internalised and the rear brake is assembled on the bottom so it is as clean and integrated as possible, which means this is a very versatile time trial-triathlon machine to make the rider fast and comfortable.

Less pain, more speedHow can we make an athlete ride faster with less pain? It’s all about the fitting. We offer the right fitting, which allows the athlete to maintain an aerodynamic position, even for a long ‘Iron Man’ distance. We can cover both types of positions, with a huge adjustment range on the seat post.

Eddy Merckx won Liège-Bastogne-Liège a total of five times. In 1975, he won this oldest of the one-day clas-sics, La Doyenne, in a Molteni rainbow jersey, which confirmed his total supremacy.

In 1970 the Paris-Roubaix classic was even more the 'Hell of the North': the weather was dreadful and Eddy had only had one day to recover from the previous com-petition. Nonetheless, he succeeded in finishing the Roubaix stage more than six minutes ahead of the field.

Carbon fork & Columbus tubingWe also offer a full carbon fork that matches the properties of steel, with a high lateral stiffness, but also with a very high compliance to match the feeling of the steel stiffness while riding.

We are still using Columbus tubing by the famous Italian tube maker. They custom-make all of these tubes for us. Other nice features on this frame are the integrated headset, cable stoppers, and guides, including the chain hanger from the past.

Modern steelBoth frames are the modern interpretation of our way of producing steel frames. Nowadays we use thick welding which means tube-to-tube, connected by a weld. So thick welding is lighter and stiffer than lugs from the past.
