Very often this path is disturbed by external events that were impossible to plan on, but are not insurmountable. In January, one of our Midwest Territory Managers, Dennis Forster set out to achieve one of his lifetime goals, climbing to the top of Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro. Dennis wanted to check this off his “bucket list” early after a recent diagnosis of multi- ple sclerosis. While he is under medical attention and having the disease under control, he felt that “the time is now” and took his dad, Frank Forster, a retired territory manager for Duro Dyne, to share in this monumental event. People who wish to trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro are advised to undertake appropriate research and ensure that they are both properly equipped and physically capable. Though the climb is technically not as challenging as when climbing the high peaks of the Himalayas or Andes, the high elevation, low temperature, and occasion- al high winds make this a difficult and dangerous trek. acclimatization is essential, and even the most experienced trekkers suffer some degree of altitude sickness.Kiliman- jaro summit is well above the altitude at which high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), or high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) can occur. All trekkers will suffer considerable discomfort, typically shortage of breath, hypothermia and headaches. This is Dennis, I'm back from the mountain and doing great, OK, great might be too much, but I survived. I got a reality check when I saw a person who didn't make it, and pushed their body too far. For me it was an amazing experience, and I'm thankful for all the prayers. I thought a lot about all of you on this journey, probably more than you can imagine. In the hours of extreme pain, I found comfort in the time we have spent together and it helps push me toward the summit. I'm thankful my dad is OK. I got word that he was OK on summit day, which allowed me to focus on the summit. Thank you again! Annette. I love you!!!! amazing adventure that included me reaching thesummit of the world's tallest free standing moun-tain, Mount Kilimanjaro. At nearly 20,000 feet, itwas not to be taken lightly. Less than half of theclimbers attempting to reach the summit arefortunate enough to stand atop its glacier peak.

Dad battled strong for three days, but the altitudedid him in around 12,000 feet. His body wasunable to adjust to the lack of air and he, with hisguide, made the smart decision to turn back, where he could rest by the pool and drink a beer. For me, the journey seemed as if I had a higher

power climbing right along with me. I never feltany of the symptoms of mountain sickness thatusually accompany a trip to these heights.

I thought a lot about each of you and what yourgift to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation meant tomy family and me, and it spurred me to reach the

summit. As far as reaching my fund raising goal, the numbers change daily. Mainly because of thelocal Fox news channel and a couple of newspa-pers that ran articles before and after the climb, but my guess is we will come in around $20,000locally and quite a bit more on the national level!

Andsometimes that oldcoat closet just doesn’t smell rightwhen you open it.Anywhere you hang

it - Spring will be better with DuroDyne. Use it with our compliments.

Dallas Welcomes AHR Expoto the SouthDALLAS - Over 1,800 companies reserved morethan 375,000 square feet of exhibit space at theDallas Convention Center for the 2013 Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration (AHR)Expo on Jan. 28 - 30, making it the largest everheld in the Southwest. Leading manufacturers andsuppliers from around the world converged toshowcase hundreds of innovative new productsto nearly 45,000 industry professionals.

Those manufacturers were in a festive mood, according to a recent AHR Expo survey, whichshowed that 70 percent of respondents expectthe economy to be better in 2013 than in 2012. Infact, 15 percent of these manufacturers expect a“much better year,” while 28 percent of respon-dents expect the economy to remain the same.Just 3 percent expect it to be worse than 2012.

“It is good to see that manufacturers continue tobe optimistic about the HVACR sector of theeconomy,” said Clay Stevens, president,International Exposition Co., which produces andmanages the AHR Expo. “These survey resultsseem to have suggested a strong show in Dallas.”
