Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engg, Maharashtra Institute of

Technology, Pune 411038 organized a National Conference on “Signal Image Technology &

Applied Communication Systems” (SITACS-13) on 19th

& 20th

December 2013 at MIT, Pune.

The conference was partly funded by Board of College and University Development (BCUD),

University of Pune.

The Conference aimed to bring together researchers, scientists, teachers and post-

graduate students to exchange and share their ideas and knowledge in various areas of

Electronics & Communication Engineering. The conference was attended by about 70

participants from Pune, Mumbai and outside Maharashtra. In this conference, papers were

presented in the domains such as RF and Microwave Antennas , Signal Processing , Image and

Pattern Recognition, Networks and Communication, Control and Automation , Medical

Informatics and Telemedicine.

The conference was inaugurated on 19th

December 2013 by Dr. M. G. Angur, Chancellor,

Alliance University, Bangalore as a Chief Guest . The President and Keynote Speaker for the

conference was Dr. V. M. Pandharipande, Vice Chancellor, BAMU, Aurangabad. He addressed

the gathering on the topic “Antennas and Communication Networks ”.

A total 39 participants have presented papers in the various domains. On the first day

there were three sessions . Session-I on “RF, Microwaves and Antennas” was chaired by Dr. Y.

Ravinder PICT, Pune. Session-II on “Signal Processing” was chaired by Dr. Vishwas R.

Udpikar Wavelet Group, Pune and Dr. (Mrs.) Arti. A. Khaparde, MIT, Pune. Session-III on

“Image and Pattern Recognition” was chaired by Dr. Vijayakumar, AFMC, DRDO, Pune and Dr.

Krishna Warhade, MITCOE, Pune .

On the second day there were three sessions followed by panel discussion and valedictory

function. Session-IV on “Networks and Communication & Others” was chaired by Mr. Munir

Sayyad, Rancore Technologies, Navi Mumbai and Dr. S. P. Mahajan, COEP, Pune. Session-V

on “Control and Automation” was chaired by Mr. Milind Jagtap, SOFTHARD Automation,

Pune. Session-VI on “Medical Informatics and Telemedicine” was chaired by Dr.V. K. Bairagi,

AISSMS’s IOIT, Pune.

The last session was panel discussion on “Signal Image Technology & Applied Communication

Systems: Indian scenario”. Moderator for the panel discussion was Mr. Munir Sayyad and other

members were Dr. Shabbir Merchant of Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Bombay, Mr.

Milind Jagtap, Dr. V. K. Bairagi, Dr. Krishna Warhade, Dr. A. S. Abhyankar. The panel

discussion was very interactive session where members and participants discussed their views on

4G spectrum allocation, challenges faced by services providers, scope of signal processing

techniques for Indian music and image processing techniques in medical field.

The two day conference concluded with the Valedictory function. The Chief Guest was Dr.

Prahlada, Vice Chancellor, DIAT, Pune and Guest of Honor was Dr. A. S. Abhyankar, Dean,

Department of Technology, University of Pune. Dr. Prahlada enlightened the audience with

latest trends of signal processing in radar technology for defense purposes. Dr. A. S. Abhyankar,

expressed his views on “Research Challenges”.

In the end, a few participants expressed their views on the conference. Vote of thanks were given

by Dr. V. Kumar.
