Chapter 16 Answers: 1.Dratted (P.155) could mean annoying or horrible. 2. A synonym for concealed (P.155) could be hidden. 3. Susan was worried about her safety because the giant, along with the other animals were changing from being statues, back to life. Being back to life meant that the giant and possibly other animals could have hurt Susan and her sister and that is why she was worried. 4. I think that Lucy was very happy and excited when she found Mr. Tumnus. I believe this because when she found him they held hands and were dancing round and round for joy. 5. I think the battle scenes were very horrifying. I believe so because P.160 said that ‘horrible things were happening wherever she looked.’ This tells me that the fight scenes were horrible which is why Lucy saw horrible things wherever she looked. 6. I predict that the story will end with Aslan wanting to leave the children as the leaders of Narnia. I don’t think they will accept it so Aslan would have to stay and be the leader and the children will return to the house where the old man lived. I also think that the old man would not have noticed that the children had left.

7. This chapter is uplifting because: - The good characters triumph over the bad characters.- The witch loses the battle - It gives the reader the feeling that good always triumph over evil. 8. When Aslan breathes unto animals that had been turned into statues, they come back to life. 9. The giant’s name was ‘Giant Rumblebuffin.’ 10. The handkerchief was useless because it was way too small for the giant’s face. When he tried to wipe his face with it, the handkerchief did not help because it was too small and could not help to clean his face. 11. Summarise the chapter.

Chapter 17 Answers: 1. The words ‘Took flight’ P. 162 means that the enemies either flew away or they left.2. The phrase ‘Wear it well’ means that someone looks good wearing something OR

someone is looking good even though they may be going through a tough situation. 3. Amidst could mean in between something or amongst something. 4. I believe that most of the enemies ran when they saw that the witch was dead

because they knew that without her they would have lost the battle. 5. Aslan was harsh about helping other people over Edmund probably because Lucy was

taking a long time to attend to Edmund. She was also checking that Edmund had recovered which took even more time. This annoyed Aslan as he realised that the time Lucy was taking to attend to Edmund would have caused other people to die because they were not being attended to.

6. I think Aslan made Edmund a knight because:- Peter told him that Edmund had stopped the witch himself. - He had to fight through 3 ogres to get to the witch which showed determination.- He destroyed the witch’s wand which gave them a chance of defeating the witch and

her team.

7. When the children became rulers, their speech changed and they spoke as if the were royal kings and queens. They could have changed their speech probably because:- They wanted everyone to know that they were the kings and queens of the land.- Speaking with a royal voice would command authority over the animals and creatures

in Narnia. - It made them feel superior to the other creatures and animals in Narnia. 8. In the next book, I predict that the children will end up back in Narnia but NOT through the wardrobe but through another entrance in the house. I also predict that they will have another adventure in Narnia but different to the one that they had with Aslan and the witch. 9. The author may have given Edmund retribution because:- He was dishonest about Lucy earlier in the book- He was loyal to the witch earlier in the book and went to her castle against his siblings

and the beavers wishes. - He was willing to give up his siblings to the witch for some Turkish Delight.- He lied to his siblings about knowing about Narnia earlier in the book. 10. Edmund saved the day by smashing the witch’s wand with his sword and stopping her from turning others into statues. 11. Lucy made Edmund well again by pouring some of the liquid from the precious cordial in to his mouth.

12. Yes, the children reigned well because:- They made good laws and kept peace- They saved good trees from being unnecessarily cut down. - They stopped busy bodies and interferers and encouraged ordinary people who wanted to live and let live. - They drove back fierce giants.- They entered into friendships with other countries13. Write a short summary of the story
